We'll never know if they were sired to Katherine because she faked her death and left them. But Damon's obcession with bringing her back would be consistent with a sire bond - and might explain his deranged behaviour in Season 1:
As the possibility of resurecting her draw nearer he behaved less and less like himself.
The only thing that goes against this is that on the Flashbacks there has never been ANY mention of his obcession for Katherine. We never see him pinning for her. After he met Sage, he became his hedonistic self with no thought for her at all.
Maybe because Katherine didn't have any feelings for Damon.
Tyler was sired to Claus, becayse he felt that Claus made a great favour to him when he turned him. So, you get sired to someone when you think that making you a vamp was a favour that can't be paid, and you feel you want to return that favour, to help your creator. So, subconciusly you follow his orders, eve if you don't want to, because you feel you owe him.
^ The Sire Bond is completely different between vampires and werewolves, as said by Tyler. He may be sired to Klaus, he did everthing he said, but he didn't wanted to have sex with him or he wasn't in love with him at all. When a werewolf gets turned by someone, he is automatically sired to him/her, it doesn't matter if there were feelings or not.
The thing with vampires is something I rather don't understand. I guess I'll have to agree with the fact that Katherine never had any feelings for Damon, just a bit playing with his heart since she loves to play games.
The sire bond thing can be explaned simply by: wolves are pack animals and therefore need an alpha (actually also an omega), which in this case will be the most dominate hybrid - Klaus. It does make sense that they cannot easily disobey him, because it would mean certain death or in the pack rules - diminished survival of the pack, hense selfpreservation, if in this case by subconsiousness...
In the case of vampires it gets a bit complex due to variety of different behaviour models through the years in books and movies. Mostly they are described to be hermits but they due occasionally build groups to increase survival but loyalty is not guaranteed. Creating a new vampire does sometimes create a bond of submission through gratitude, love or total repression. Hense the strength playes a big role here too. Also the creator might be more eager to train the newcomer so he or she should stick around.
When thinking about Damon in general as a creator: he is alpha material due to his aggressive behaviour and his control over himself, he is a strong character and has feelings usually for the ones he turns, so possibly strenghtening the bond for both women who were turned by him (not Vicky) and sired, also they did not seem eager to even fight the situation, so did they actually want to be dominated? Supply and demand...Maybe Elena also trusts Damon more as a vampire than Stefan, after all Stefan is unstable and has been pushing her back and forth emotionally, or/ and she secretly likes the bad boy more. It can also be freak of nature, just happens sometimes. All is guessing until the author reveals his/ her truth.
Best guess is that the serie creators just wanted to make the Damon/ Elena relationship more complex so actually even if they seem to be together, they are not, hense the back door for Stefan (they even show them doing less erotic stuff). I don't think they actually took a look to the "Vampire manual" and came to this conclusion, due to the large amount of mistakes already done in vampire limitations and behaviour. But well can anyone actually name any vid which stayes truthfull to the vampire mythology.
No, I can't name any video that if truthfull to vampire mythology.... On the other hand, this show seems to have forgotten they ARE vampires! No more mention of bloodlust. They stay for days in the island and don't need to feed. They prefer to SLEEP at night, while there is a HUMAN hunter around (while vampires have a clear advantage during the night)...
So on, and so forth....
So on, and so forth....
No, the show has not forgotten that they are vampires. Remember that the series creator twisted several things in vampire mythology to make the series work. They still have bloodlust, but for the most part they choose not to drink from the vein which eliminates the need to hunt. Also, the hunters are supernatural beings as well and are not totally human. . . so on and so forth. . .
They tweaked vampire lore so much, that the only disadvantage of being a vampire in this series is they cannot grow old and have babies.
No skulking in the dark, avoiding sunlight, suddenly falling asleep as the sun comes up, no vulnerability to silver or garlic, no irresitible bloodlust, no hunting compulsion, no increased sexual awareness, no repulsion to crosses or other religious symbols, they reflect on mirrors, have no teltale pale complection, corpse like temperature, they have hearbeat, can eat and drink normal food...
They are beautiful, alluring, superstrong, stay young forever, never get ill and can get nutrition from a blood bag, or voluntary donnors. Really, how HORRIBLE is this really?
When they were in the island, there was no evidence that it was one of the Five that was hunting them. Actually they implied it was one of the "natives" that was hunting them. Of course we later learned it was Katherine, but at the time, vampires would have an advantage at night against almost any foe.
To break a sire boond betwen vampires is to turn your humanite off. We have seen that both Stefan and Damon have done it in the past, so that's why they are not sierd to Kathrine anymore if they ever was sired to her.
What do you think?
