Ever since Elena became a vampire in the season 4 premiere, it's been mentioned and implied repeatedly(mostly by Stefan) that she's different than the person she was as a human. But how exactly is she different? She has talked about she feels things differently. The most obvious being her human feelings coupled with the fact it was Damon's blood that turned her led to forming of the sire bond between Damon and her. As the result, she's more drawn to Damon instead of Stefan as a vampire. She was less tolerant toward Stefan than she was as a human when she realized he was lying and working with Klaus.
How else is different?
As far as I can tell, other than the object of her romantic attention has changed, she's still basically the same person. She feels things she's never felt before, which is common for newly turned vampire because the predatory instincts getting into her mind. But nothing about her has really changed from her human self, or has it? She says she's darker now, darker how?
The only time Elena did act like a complete different person was when she got high on blood and behaved like, as she put it, a crackhead. That was definitely not due to the sire bond, Damon told her NOT to kill, he didn't tell her to get crazy with the blood-feeding. So either that was somehow a temporary loss of control of the predatory/vampiric side, or there's a vampire personality that is different than her human side in there somewhere.
Again, many things are possible until the writers decide to reveal the "truth" to us. For now, I would assume the sire bond is real. If it's indeed a compulsion from Klaus, it means Elena has only been pushed into feeling for Damon. I doubt the writers would do that, and you are have a point with donated and animal. But since we have no way to confirming the idea right now, we can only wait and see. When we learned the curse of sun and the moon was fake, we also learned there was indeed a curse. With sire bond, it confirms Elena's feelings for Damon, which no fan of TVD can deny. If it turns out to be compulsion, it'll create a room for saying what Elena's been feeling for Damon is fake, which ruins a lot of their work since the series started, so it's unlikely for them to set the sire bond as compulsion.
Her being pushed into feelings. Is not necessarily true. Those feelings were there to begin with. Besides if Nina loves Damon or Stefan matters not to Klaus, what matters is Klaus getting Elena human so he can make more hybrids.
Plus as I write this response, it occurs to me the likely hood she was compelled is unlikely. For when Connor plagued her in the ghost form to almost having her kill herself. I just asked myself why Klaus didn't compel her then. To not listen to the madness of the curse.
But your right it can't be proven or discounted until its played out in what the writers have play out on the show. But then the fun of it is also to speculate and guess what is going on. For me it is what truly makes the various romances and plots interesting in speculating what direction its all going to go.
To Vampi Chick:
Judging from every plots posted for the upcoming episode, I'd say Klaus shows no interest in revenge against the Mystick Fall gang, just finding the cure in order to create more hybrids. So maybe the writers had the idea for him to plot revenge, but dropped it later, and I think you got Elena confused with the actress that plays her.
Becoming a vampire may not change you completely, but it seems it would corrupt eventually if you let it. That's pretty much the case with the Originals, Stefan and Damon. None of them are evil before they were turned. But the powers vampirism grants you pretty much allow you to do whatever you want, with just about no consequence, plus the ability to not care(the humanity switch) will it easy to not feel bad about the terrible things you do. Everyone has a dark side, apparently in some people, the dark side grows and grows when they become a vampire, some can manage or learn to manage.
For Elena, her human conscience and compassion plus her connection with everyone keeps her pretty much the same the way she was as human. Her own passion may have been magnified to the point her morals cannot counter, that could be why her feelings for Damon are more intense and the sire bond formed.
To Dark Robin: Hardly confusing the manner. But you seem to counter everything with a supposition on my positions to validate your own positions. Which you really should stop doing. Its like the kid in a classroom that hears but does not really listen.
As for the humanity switch, it is a laughable term. But a term used to describe the hunger or bloodlust that is a vampire. The need for blood to survive. Suppressing the predator instincts that one gains with becoming a vampire. If you really look at it. The younger you are as a vampire in terms of vampire age. The more likely you will be closer to your humanity. For there are people around that hold you still to that with emotional connection. But as time goes on and those people grow old and die off. The more one hunts and feeds. The temptation to use mind complusion for gain. Or more importantly the need to use it grows. Still as for example Rhebekah with April. New attachments are made through out the ages. For even with being a vampire. They are still social animals that seek out companionship. Which just happens to be the cattle that they feed on to survive.
An your arguement on Elena caring emotional nature. Just how is it more then Carolines or anyone elses. Is it based on that Elena has just about lost every family member save for Jeremy. From the very beginning of season four that has really been pretty lame in the story line. I think most people made a connection with Elena. With her lossess not her compassion. That watch the show. Along with the two hot guys wanting her and if she turn vampire.
To Vampi Chick:
I'm not actively trying counter everything you say, merely stating my own opinion.
The part where I discussed about vampirism wasn't directed at you, just simply for the topic.
Thus far, Caroline seems to be the only that proves vampirism isn't all corruptive; as she is the only one who's become a better person since she became a vampire. So it can affect individuals differently. But one would need a coach, like Lexi did for Stefan, and Stefan did for Caroline, and now Stefan and Damon for Elena.
Elena herself says she's changed, she has yet to say how, and without knowing the how, it's hard to tell if her change is because of vampirism, or it's just simply her.
It would seem from Caroline's point of view, Elena likes bad guy more than good guy, something both Stefan and Caroline think as there's something wrong with her.
I would not say Caroline has become a better person with vampirism. Its given her more depth and abilities that is about it. Was it good that she accepted the fact to give up Chris. Like Tyler said, Chris was a friend too. That also shows a corruptive influence.
The sire bound what we know.
Hybrids to Klaus - The fact he has given them freedom from having to go through the agonizing shape shift to a wolf on the full moon. They are thankful for such.
A vampire to vampire sire bond - First the the sire blood has to be used. A emotional connection. So far it appears to be in love with the vampire prior while human.
Now until Damon told her to leave. Nothing overt in a form of a command had been done. She didn't break up with Stefan. Stefan broke up with her.
On the other hand, Alexander said the tattoo would lead to a weapon against the vampires. If it's a spell, that would explain why they need 5 hunters, with their swords, vampire sacrifices and what not to perform the ritual.
So, I agree with Vampi Chick too, it does not makes much sense. And how is all this connected with Silas? Why would the map on the hunter's skin lead to Silas tomb?
I agree with this..It's not specified that Silas is actually Vampire nor any other species...
It's said he made the cure for immortality...
But I also am curious as to why it would only now be coming about?
If witches knew there were a cure for such things, why didn't Ester procure it when wanting to "fix her mistakes"?
Also, out of all the witches whom have had issues with Vampires...Why take the time immobilizing them and/or killing or entombing them? Just get the cure, administer it, and you're done.. Instant Vamp-Be-Gone! =o
Re:Elena being different.
My take on the transformation of Elena lies in the fact that Elena has always relied on her parents when they were alive. She sought her mother's advice when she had problems with Matt, she liked to admit her failure to accept Matt and his offer but only to her Mother and took her advice into consideration.
Ever since she lost her parents, she has been relying more and more on her friends and their collective ideas of what is right and wrong. Her friends approved when she did something right and did not approve when she did wrong so her moral compass was a little flawed as her friends were all teenagers. For example, Elena went and kissed Stefan after Caroline mentioned that "girl meet boy....kiss" . Elena also took into consideration Bonnie's opinion of Stefan after Bonnie felt something dark when she touched Stefan. Elena even went so far as to make a dinner date including Bonnie so that Bonnie and Stefan would get along.
Even when everything was going wrong with Klaus,Elijah,Esther,Katherine; Elena had a tendency to take Caroline and Bonnie's advice and their opinions regarding almost everything. Even so far as to disapprove of Damon because they hated him.
Since Elena turned into a vampire she has started to think a little more on her own and not really consider what her friends think. She has grown up a little, maybe the accident and being alive after death has made her reconsider her normal behavior of looking for approval. Hence Caroline and Bonnie feels she has changed because she does not take their disapproval too much into account. Maybe she feels she can decide for herself what she wants.
She has not changed so much, but she is showing a side of her that wasn't really seen by her friends because she had been so eager to please before. Now she is a little selfish when it comes to her own choices.
The Elena before Vamp, disliked Rebekah but Elena says she hates Rebekah after turning to a Vampire. Elena felt her anger boiling at the Beks housewarming party.
I think there are changes, but not huge changes, just a little but enough to make a difference.
DazzleMe: I like your theory. You have hit on many points. I agree that she sought her friend's approval which is normal for teenagers. I agree that she has matured a little as a vampire but she still has quite a way to go before she really comes into her own as a woman which will be the same if she stayed human. It is just a part of the growing up and maturing process.
elena is sired to damon, after getting cure she will say,"it will always be stefan,i love stefan damon"
damon will be heartbroken....
What do you think?
