If Silas is the first vampire then the "originals" are not really original, right? I'm having trouble understanding this story line.

u r missunderstanding the whole concept
the originals are the vampire that are created by magic and not by other vampires
so even alaric(history teacher)was a original vampire
it has nothing to do with wh was born first
Not necessarily a priority but it adds power to the word when people apply original to the Original family.

Original means anything that is first in it's kind.....Originals can only be called Originals after they start making more vampires like themselves because only then will they became the origin of vampire species....if they would have never made vampires then they won't have been called Originals becaue nothing originated from them....The term Original was used by Elena only to explain better as to why everyone should be cautious about Alaric.....Original term represented that he will inherit the powers equal to/more than that of Originals
"Well, Silas can't do magic. He was a witch, but after he became immortal, that ended. He can be a witch or a vampire, but never both" - Silas (4.15)
I agree with this. Infact Atticus Shane explains that Silas was a powerful witch in one of his stories.
Blood is the lifeforce that is needed for Silas to continue with his immortality.
Silas is basically just a different model of a vampire!
Exactly, well said.
You could argue either way. It just depends on point of view.
Their creation was different in intent, Silas and Tessa created the elixer to become truly immortal and nothing else, so Silas didn't really get much of a physical boost but his psychic abilities was an unexpected and arguably better side effect and he was truly unkillable except for the cure. The Original spell was created so Esther could protect her family from werewolves, who in their true form were the strongest beings around so as a result the Originals were given physical powers superior to the wolves. immortality requires blood as a sustences because it is an immortal's life source, hence why both Silas and the others have to drink blood in order to function.
Interestingly Immortals and vampires are complete opposites. Immortals have great psychic powers and inferior physical power, whereas vampires have great physical power but inferior psychic ones. Immortals don't have any true weaknesses bar the cure, vampires have plenty of weaknesses. Their bloodlust and infinite life span is pretty much the only thing that they in common.
silas is an truly immortal being yes he drinks blood but he is a different vampiric species entirely ,because his immotality is far more powerful than the mikelson ,because it is uncoditionall and the originals are called the originals because they are the first of there kind and have conditional immortality.
