all the diverse vampire mythologies (Dracula, True Blood, Dark Hunter, Dark Brotherhood, Anita Blake series, etc) have their own 'rules', mythologies, physiologies. I read book 1 of TVD but it was a long time ago. My question is: Do the vampires in TVD stories and TV show HAVE to breathe or do they just do it to appear human or do they have a breathing reflex but do not need to actually breathe. In the fan fiction (and I've literally read 100's) the writer's consistently bring up the fact that they do not have to breathe...for example when sleeping they don't breathe. So what is it? My concern is why was Stefan 'drowning' over and over again if he didn't need air/oxygen to begin with???????
I't made absolutely no sense to me! Being confined in a small tight space and at the bottom of a quarry where no one would think to look for you was 50,000 kinds of hell as it was!
