It appears like the baby is what The Originals will be built around in the coming seasons (cross your fingers) but a lot of people seem to think it won't be born or won't live long after birth. What does everyone think will happen with the child?
Well, as it is there are endless possibilities as to how the writers can bring with this child. So any speculation might be moot. One of few things they have established is that the child's blood can turn werewolves into hybrids without doppleganger blood. Since the child is the first one to be born with vampirism, perhaps it mean she(the witches determined it's a girl) will become more powerful than even the Originals. There are rumors that there will be a new species in the TO series, maybe the child is it. The problem right now is if the writers will use the accerlated growth rate for the baby like Stephanie Meyer did in Twilight saga. If they do, it's too much similarity, if they don't it'll be hard working the storyline around a baby.

Accelerated growth is nothing new to supernatural writing. Twilight, 4400, and Ann Rice are just a few to have accelerated growth. The growth is more than a way to advance a story. These births usually represent the birth of a more powerful supernatural being. These being spend less time vulnerable than human. Hence the accelerated growth rate. Anyone who has read fantasy and sci-fi knows accelerated aging has been around for a long time.
It would make sense for the child to age faster than human. Maybe not Taltos, 4400 or twilight fast, but faster than human.
The show could use the baby to advance the supernatural mythology of tvd and to. I have not read the tvd books, but I understand the universe is quite large. Introduce more aspects from the books into the show.

I too think it would be a little much with the accelerated growth, however, I don't see how it could go any other way unless they plan to carry around a baby all series long or "drop" it.
