To be perfectly frank, we do not know whether or not the Salvatores are witches. Has Silas or any1 ever actually said that they are his descendants?
I know Stefan's his doppelganger, but Tessa revealed that doppelgangers are actually more random than necessarily blood-related. Tom Avery is proof of this.
I agree that Elena must be a traveller/witch because Katerina was a witch and most probably, Amara herself must've been a traveller because she was very associated with that crowd back in the day and I don't think it's a coincidence that Katherine would be a Traveller, too.
But here's the thing, Stefan and Damon could be directly descendant from Silas because he might have had siblings, same for Amara, but none of them had children of their own, obviously.
So I voted yes to Elena being an untapped witch only because of Katherine while I voted yes for doppelgangers not being entirely human, but then again, they were, after all, created to be the most mortal versions of Amara and Silas as possible, which would, in effect, make them very human and non-supernatural
. . .
I'm revoking my vote and voting neutral for the doppelganger supernaturalism parts.
Mortal, yes. But doppelgangers are supernatural. I understand the ring example is now not as relevant for - in favor to your argument - her witch side might have taken effect to bring Ric back to life. But Elijah did say (while being oblivious to witchcraft being part of Petrova line) that "a doppelganger is a supernatural occurence, odds are the ring won't work": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCxaAyfRflQ&feature=youtu.be&t=91
About Silas thing; whether Silas had an offspring or not, a doppelganger wouldn't appear unless they were from a bloodline of any person that is blood-related to Silas, therefore making the male doppelganger line witches. Also in the comment above I posted a link of a video in which Silas calls Damon "a distant nephew", indicating they are from a bloodline of one of his siblings, therefore making the Salvatore bloodline a line of witches.
I don't remember Qetsiyah saying doppelgangers appear in random, but I'm not saying she didn't so I'm saying she must have meant that they appear "at a random branch of the bloodline" (logically there should be many unless every member had 1 child only), because it would be weird if Matt - granted he lives long enough - had a grandchild that looks like Stefan, which according to what you said, should be possible. Tom Avery has to be born to one of the many branches of the bloodline that comes from Silas' immediate family, which ultimately makes him too an untapped witch.
