Merge

I just have one question about the merge.

Why do the twins have to do it if they are the last of the Gemini coven????

Don’t they do the merge so the coven will survive but if they are the last why do it at all. It doesn’t make sense

Can somebody please explain to me why the have to merge because i don’t understand why they have to do it.

My theory is that their magic will start becoming uncontrollable and start killing them if they don't merge.

@Gordon but they don’t have any magic. 
This, in my opinion, is for plot convenience to create some kind of conflict between them and for the sake of drama, but it’s stupid. The Merge isn’t even supposed to happen until they’re 22 years old, as this is the way the spell/magic of the Merge works, but no JP wants it to happen now, and I promise you they’re going to come up with some stupid reason or loophole that doesn’t even make sense. It’s like they totally ignored the history of TVD and TO, and they’ve done so with other things. [Remove comment about Hope]

The last episode said how the Merge is also a curse. I'm guessing Alaric and Caroline don't really know what the details of the curse is since people usually go through with the Merge but it's probably something where both twins die instead of one. Or the people they love start to die, forcing them to go through with it.
@Sayitasitis2 Who said JP is making them do the Merge now? The show said multiple times already how it's not happening until they turn 22. The twins are only just finding out about it now. It's a shock that only one of the twins has six more years to live.

This is true because they are the only 2 alive in the Gemini Coven. They have no magic at all . There shouldn't be a merge none of them will gain anything. [Remove comment about Hope].

I have a crazy theory. Nature created Siphoners to stop the merge due to the merge being againts Nature.

The merge creates a huge imbalance of power. One witch with the power of two.

The merge between Kai and Luke was actually a Nature's way in mantaining a balance. Kai (a Siphoner) won the merge and killed his brother Luke (a Witch). So he didn't have a power of two witches, only one+ his Siphoning.

But to end the merge Nature needed two Siphoners.

And when Lizzie and Josie will be 22 they will have to do the merge. They'll hold each others hands and they will be saying the spell ‘Sanguinem desimilus! Sanguinem generis fiantus!’. But nothing will happen at all. None of them will die because there is no magic to merge and create an imbalance of power.

I honestly don't know how it will work . I don't think it will even work either. But if they absorb magic from another source and say the spell we don't know what would happen.

Because of the curse that runs through their family(coven). It forces twins to participate in the merger(other wise they'll die if they don't). According to Alaric(in episode 10) the merge is a battle of wills. Hope this helps. 😎
