<p>In season 8 episode 3 of TVD after Sybil erases Damon's memories of Elena he see's her being pulled from the car wreck and there had been 3 fatalities. But Damon never saved Elena from the car crash, Stefan did. So why did she die just because she never met Damon? Wouldn't Stefan have still saved her just the same? </p>

<p>You're right, it has no connection but if Elena would stay alive, Damon would have other memories with her, their meeting would have been just different. "Killing" Elena at this time was perfect to avoid any encounter between Elena and Damon.</p>
<p>killing elena at this time wouldn’t have made a difference though cause it was established that elena and damon met BEFORE elena and stefan so technically elena had already met damon prior to the car crash</p><p>

^^yes but remember that stefan was the one that saved elena from the car wreck, and he didn't even know that damon was in town yet. So It still shouldn't have caused elena to die
