I guess it's not really a wish, it's more a perverted sense of magic for them to start hating the vampire, just like what happened in Bonnie's mind when she became the new hunter because it might happen that the hunter has a relative like father or siblings turned vampire, or even the partner and this desire would not be very well explained I believe it is induced, just as Alaric felt the desire to kill the originals induced by Sther when she began to bewitch his dark side every time he died with the ring of family Gilbert.
