I know! Right from the moment that Katherine started pretending to be Elena I thought that Jeremy would be the one to realise it. Sure, Matt knows a lot of things about Elena but Jeremy would know so much more. Things that Matt wouldn't know.
Does she even have her old diary anymore? I thought it was destroyed with the Gilbert house. So, Katherine really doesn't have that much knowledge of Elena's past. Especially with Jeremy.
I feel like the writers are purposely avoiding any interactions between 'Elena' and Jeremy while Katherine is in control, because he would figure it out really easily and they probably don't want that to happen just yet. Although, I would love to see him figure it out and throw Katherine off with questions she couldn't possibly know the answers to.
Yeah, look, the ideas that you have suggested here about Damon's mother, the father, and all the events that could have happened are great. With time and a lot of effort, I'm sure you could come up with something great for a fan fic. And while I would be happy to bounce back a few ideas now and then, I'm sorry but I can't write it with you. I write my own fanfiction, while being a beta for a few other readers, and I have too many ongoing stories right now that require all of my attention. I can't really start a new one. Sorry, and good luck with the story.
Haha, that would be awesome!!
Have you considered writing a fanfiction for the Vampire Diaries? You could totally use all of the ideas you have listed here, about the mother and how Giuseppe was involved with her death. That would be really cool. I would read that.
That would be really interesting if the vampire she helped came back into their lives after so much time. There are lots of ideas and possibilities.
I'm not sure how Damon would cope with that. I agree, and think that Stefan would deal with it reasonably well but I'm not so sure about Damon. He would be overwhelmed with so many emotions, ones that he never thought he'd feel again. I think he would probably pull back from her too, he wouldn't know what to feel or how to act since, after her death, he never really had any parents (I don't see Giuseppe being fatherly to Damon ever.)
You're right, it could totally work in season 6! That would be really interesting to watch!
^ I think that would be really cool. We all know how much Giuseppe hates vampries, so if his own wife was turned I can see him wanting to lock her in a box rather than stake her. He would tell his sons that she was dead because, after she became a vampire, he would probably consider her dead.
Haha, I can totally see her making Damon and Stefan apologise to people they've hurt. And I think if she were to come back she would want to have a very long talk with Elena about what her intentions were with her sons. Nice idea!
I also imagine her hair as being dark and long, and I always though that she would have been very kind to them.
The friction between Damon and Giuseppe could have had something to do with her death. And I'm not sure if they would havek nown it was consumption at the time? Maybe Giuseppe did play a larger role in her death. We all know how much he hates vampires and that he will do anything to kill them, so maybe it had something to do with that. I think it would be really interesting if she didn't die from consupmption like they thought.
Maybe it was just consumption, and after her death Damon might have been a reminder of the mother and that could be another reason why Giuseppe doesn't like Damon as much as he likes Stefan, or at all really. I never really got the feeling that he like Damon or ever approved him him. I'm not even saying that Damon might have been a reminder with his dark hair or light eyes, but maybe they shared the same personalities and Giuseppe missed her that much that he hated Damon for reminding him of that pain? There could be a lot of reasons why he doesn't like Damon, but that could be one of them. What do you think?
I agree, from what we know of Giuseppe he doesn't seem like the kindest man. Sure, he's accepting of Stefan but he doesn't do it in a fatherly kind of way.
I also think she would have said something to him while she was dying, probably to always look out for his brother. Aww, yes! I can imagine that :( Something like that could have happened because we know that Damon doesn't really seem to need his father's approval, and yeah he does seem upset by the fact that his father favours Stefan but he's not trying to fix that. He's not trying to win any respect from his father, he even says that to Giuseppe at one point and Giuseppe tells Damon he wouldn't get it anyway. So, many when the mother was dying Damon was taken from the room or kept from her - it could explain why he doesn't really seem to need or want any sort of relationship with his father later on, and if he did make some sort of promise to his mother about looking after Stefan that would explain why they were so close and why Damon cared more about his brother than he ever cared about his father.
There are a lot of different scenarios that could have happened, and I really hope we get some more insight into their past. I, personally, don't think that Giuseppe had THAT much influence on Damon and Stefan. You would think that because he's their father he would, but they are so different from him so I do imagine them being more like their mother.
I can see Damon disobeying his father as a child and telling Stefan things he shouldn't know, or taking him places he's not allowed. I don't think Damon respects his father, and so that would make Giuseppe dislike Damon even more.
Oh, I know right!! The bond between the Salvatore brothers is so strong, despite everything that they have been through or done to each other. Yes, I know they have had their dark moments and they have gone through difficult times but they still love each other. They'll always love each other, and this is shown countless times through the season. When Stefan turns himself over to Klaus to save his brother, or when Damon tells Stefan he'll stick with him until Stefan no longer needs him because right now Stefan is all he's got. Even when Stefan was a ripper he was still trying to look out for his brother. Despite what they do or say, when they're not together they miss each other. Aww, no it's not just you! I want to hug them too. I agree, I can't really imagine that either though. Unless he's really, really happy. and it's someone he loves or cares about. Damon only really hugs people he cares about (Stefan, Elena, Ric and eventually Jeremy).
Oh yeah, I can imagine her being very kind to her sons because they are both kind (underneath all of the pain and the anger, both Damon and Stefan have the ability to be very, very kind. Or I think so anywyay.) I don't think they'll show a pre-teen flashback of the Salvatores, and we can assume that she died when Damon and Stefan were younger because they never talk about her, and there is no mention of her in 1864.
In the books she was said to have been kind, compassionate, nurturing and the complete opposite of how Giuseppe is. Perhaps, later on in the series, we might get a flashback - not of the brothers but just of the mother. Maybe in a dream Damon will remember her, or think of her, or he might even talk about her. It would be nice just to learn more a little more about her since she clearly had the most influence on them. Oh yeah, that would be very dramatic. That is a possibility. She may have taken pity on one.
I like the pictures that you added! I agree with you again, I think her eyes were like Damon's and her hair was dark like his. I do imagine her as being sweet too, very kind and friendly. I liked all of the pictures, especially the last one. Thanks for the last, they've sure sparked a few more ideas. I think she would have had very long hair back then too, I think that was the style to have it up and hide the actual length. I also think that she would have dressed in nice, pretty colours and nothing too brash, as you said. Like the colours of the dresses you included.
Haha, we could totally write the whole prequel chapter between us! We've both got some pretty good ideas and possibilities about her haha! No, that's fine I love rambling! I liked reading this and answering all of the suggestions you put forward, they were all very interesting.
Yes, TB would have left her very tired. In the books it was mentioned that she was physically fragile and vulnerable, so maybe they used this in the show too? Ohhhh, yes that would have been very, very interestiong. Wow. We all know how much he hated vampires, so perhaps he suspected his wife was one! That could explain his strong hatred of them. Hmmmm. Very interesting ideas indeed!
What do you think about Stefan's relationship with the mother? Do you think he was too young to really form a connection? (In the books she died after his death, and Damon blamed Stefan but this isn't the case in the tv show) I get the feeling she did die when he was really young, and that Damon had to look after his brother. In the books Giuseppe becomes colder after her death, and even goes so far to lock himselfi inside the attack with a portrait of her pictures for months at a time. If something like this happened then the duty of looking out for Stefan would have fallen onto Damon, he would probably have felt like he had to look out for his brother and help him. So, maybe when Giuseppe finally stopped retreating to the attic (or staying away from his sons) he hated how much Stefan looked up to Damon?
Sorry I rambled a bit too haha! :)
Yes, we do! I think it would be great to see more of their lives before Katherine turned up, and I hope that they show us a little more. One would think that Damon's relationship with his father would be stronger considering that, and the fact that he was born 6 years before Stefan was. I always had the feeling that Damon may have been more attached to his mother instead of the father, and that may have had some effect on his relationship with Giuseppe. I always thought it was strange that they never mentioned their mother so we could assume that she died while they were young and that's the reason why they never mentioned her.
I think it would be very interesting to delve deeper into it. I always imagined that their mother would have dark hair like Damon, since Giuseppe has light hair like Stefan. Personality wise, I think she would have been kind because Stefan is very kind and caring, and underneath it all Damon is too. In 1864, and before it, Damon was good and kind despite knowing that his father disliked him and disapproved so I think we can assume that their mother may have had some influence on them in that aspect.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think we'll ever get to know more about their mother? Do you have any ideas on how or when she died?
Sorry, I rambled a little!
^^ Mr Anonymous: While it would be interesting if Giuseppe liked Damon more, I don't think that's the case. Giuseppe openly expressed his disapprovement of Damon, and compared him to Stefan.
^ TanithRea: I also thought it may have been possible that Giuseppe was emotionally or phyiscally abusive towards Damon. From what we've seen of Giuseppe, and his interactions with Damon, I do get the feeling that he was emotionally abusive so perhaps there was more to it. What you said about Stefan being loyal and listening to his father, while Damon was more challenging and not as loyal, is also very true and I think that's another reason why he liked Stefan more. Maybe there is another, deeper reason involving their mother about why Giuseppe and Damon were never close.
You've made some very interesting points.
It hasn't been confirmed that there won't be any more doppelgängers, but it's very likely that there won't be.
Qetsiyah once said that doppelgängers "violated the natural law that all living things must die, so Nature found a balance by creating mortal selves." -- Nature would know that the balance shifted again and that the progenitors of the doppelgänger line were both dead. Now that there are only two doppelgängers left, they may not need any more to "find a balance." However, as I said, that hasn't been confirmed or denied yet. It's just my own theory. Hopefully we'll get a real explanation from the show soon! :)
I don't think Elena was subjected to Augustine experiments as a child. Her father loved her and she was just a little girl then - she wasn't a vampire, and the Augustine experiments were mostly conducted on vampires.
The reason that we saw Elena (as a little girl) down in the rooms where her father used to conduct experiments was because she wandered down there without knowing what she would find. The first time Elena found out about the experiments was from Damon, and she found out her father was involved from Wes. And, as far as we know, Grayson Gilbert and the rest of the society knew nothing about Elena's connection to the dopplegangers. So, no, I'm certain (unless they reveal it as some crazy plot-twist...) Elena wasn't experimented on as a child.
No offense to any shippers, but I don't see them as being endgame. I like them together but if TVD is renewed for a sixth season, I don't see them lasting. Mainly because most relationships on the show don't last.
Amara was the progenitor of the Petrova doppelgänger line, just like Silas the progenitor of the Salvatore doppelgänger line - and while it has not been confirmed yet, since they are both dead it may not be possible for the doppelgänger line to continue.
^^ There's more information about it all, and how it may be over now, here.
