It has been established in The Vampire Diaries that only Originals can compel vampires. I was thinking the writers forgot about this as the Originals have been repeatedly torturing information out of sypernatural creatures and humans alike. But, then there is the season 1 episode 3 of The Originals where Klaus using compulsion and at the same time else where, Rebekah was torturing information out of a witch. So, I'm guessing the Original family just loves to see people suffer to get what the want?
