I don’t want to sound dumb but when Katherine died as the traveler thing she was human right? But in Season 8 wasn’t she a vampire. From what I’ve saw when someone is a human from taking the cure, if they get turned back they just throw up blood?

When the teacher died by Damon why didn’t he turn into a vampire? Is it because Damon didn’t feed him blood or....? I’m new to TVD. I’m wondering why Vicki turned into a vampire but the teacher didn’t? I’m not talking about Alaric by the way!
