In Don't It Just Break Your Heart, he is seen in a flashback taking place in 1933 Rostock, Germany. He is seen making art and Klaus makes mocking comments toward said art. After arguing with Elijah and Klaus, he leaves with his daughter, Antoinette, and murders more werewolves by the pack. It is also discovered that he murdered a total of 90 werewolves before Elijah arrived, which started alerting Mikael.
At night, Klaus goes to August's residence and he comes out, shooting an arrow at Klaus. Klaus goes to him and threatens to kill anyone he has met and loved, and proceeds to extract his heart, killing him in the process. He then tells the people nearby to grab the coin to save themselves and he begins killing said people. A woman comes out and grabs the coin, saving herself and her family. The woman is revealed to be Greta and she is seen cradling him, and this begins the family's long stemmed vampire supremacy.
