Dr. Sophia Alpert is a minor character of The Vampire Diaries novel series. She makes house calls and distributes medicines while driving her SUV. She is also close friends with Theophilia Flowers and Orime Saitou.
She is a woman over sixty with short iron gray hair and burnished dark brown skin.
She was described as having a brusque and calming voice, which was both "crusty and kind".
- Sophia is a female name derived from σοφία, the Greek word for "wisdom".
- Alpert is a variation of the Jewish surname Heilprin, which in turn people with the surname derive it from the town of Heilbronn, Germany. Heilbronn means "healing well".
The Return Series
She was called to the Saitou house by Shinichi, who was disguised as Jim Bryce, as Isobel was mutilating herself thanks to the malach possession. When she arrived, she tended to "Jim", who had been hit on the head by Isobel with a lamp. She then planned on taking Isobel, "Jim" and "Inari", who was a disguise for Misao, to the hospital in Ridgemont. However, a falling tree blocked their path and the sound of nearby malach caused Isobel to run into the Old Wood, and Dr. Alpert, "Jim" and "Inari" chased after her.
The three ran into Meredith Sulez, Bonnie McCullough, Matt Honeycutt and Theophilia Flowers and found their way to a fake version of the Flowers boardinghouse, where both Misao and Shinichi revealed themselves. She, along with the rest of the group, were to be sacrificed in the Moonspire ceremony, but they were saved by Elena Gilbert.
She is briefly seen with her grandchildren, Tyrone and Jayneela.
- There is an inconsistency in The Return: Nightfall and The Return: Shadow Souls as her grandson, Tyrone, was referred as her son in the latter novel, while in Nightfall, he is her grandson.
- This error is cleared up in The Return: Midnight when it's revealed Sophia is a friend of Theophilia and Orime.
