After succumbing to her cancer the previous episode Caroline arranges the funeral pretty quickly with the help of her friends. Before the funeral Elena gives Caroline advice on awkward sympathies which are friends of circumstance, casual acquaintances, loved ones. While Damon told her earlier in the day that the worst day is when other people move on with their lives while you don't, which makes Caroline seriously consider turning off her humanity switch when it's all over. At the church it's a beautiful service and after talking to a officer Matt is inspired to be a Deputy in the near future. At Forbes House Elena confronts Caroline about pulling the humanity switch off Caroline tired of hearing hypocrisy snaps Elena's neck and runs out into the night with her humanity off. Stefan arrives at Caroline's place and finds a unconscious Elena knowing that Caroline is without her humanity.
