Throughout The Originals Novel Series[]

The Rise[]

Rebekah met him when she posed as widow who had survived a bandit attack; however, in reality, she staged the attack. He apologizes for her loss and he inspects the corpse, noticing the almost hidden bite marks. He tells her that she was lucky to escape with her loss considering there are unnatural and cursed things in the woods. After a few more days of questioning, Eric leads her to the prison and Rebekah points out a werewolf that was at the engagement party. Eric snaps a branch to use as a stake and kills the werewolf. He fronts the fight against the werewolves wanting to avenge their packmate with his soldiers and gets injured in the process. After Rebekah finds him in the infirmary, he speaks of his wife, Marion, and how he had studied death and searched for such "people" so he could put an end to it. He asks Rebekah if she would come back to visit him more as he believes she could cure him faster than any other doctor. While Rebekah stalks the grounds after her argument with Klaus, Eric approaches her and offers her some vervain flowers. As the two go somewhere out of the camp, they talk and he pulls her in for a kiss. They eventually grew close and began a romantic relationship, during which time she learned about his deceased wife.

While Rebekah leaves to see her family, Eric follows her and holds a stake over Elijah in the cellar until Rebekah cuts off his breathing until he goes unconscious. He later awakes while she is staring at the ocean and he tells her he followed her because he believed Elijah was the one who killed Felix. She tells him the truth that Elijah is her brother and they're vampires. She reveals he killed Felix and he tells Rebekah he had been taught by her father, hiring them to gain information, not to murder. He tells her after Marion had died, he had searched for years to become a vampire and she promises to turn him once they were out of the city. They head to her family's new residence and introduces Eric to her brothers. They accept their sister's decision to leave as they can't make new vampires in the city. On their way to the West Indies, the Hurricane Spell was cast on the city, the storm gets worse while they are at sea and he loses his grip from her, and a bolt of lightning struck the mast, with Rebekah unable to see him anymore. She then spots his body underneath a beam and tries to get him out, but to no avail. She leaves his body underneath the sea as if she were to bring his body with her, she would just wait for him to come back to life. She sits by a hillock to mourn the loss of Eric, sobbing while the rain batters her.
