Fate's A Bitch, Isn't It? is the sixteenth and final episode of the third season of Legacies and the forty-eighth episode of the series overall.

Summary[]

LET THE GAMES BEGIN — Hope is forced to work with someone from her past. Kaleb and MG go on their first official superhero mission. Lizzie's plan to find Hope a rebound relationship takes an unexpected turn. Alaric, Landon, Josie and Ethan also appear.[2]

Plot[]

After teaming up the previous night, Landon and Cleo break into a museum late at night. They're looking for an artefact, but are interrupted in their tracks by a security guard, who confronts them. Landon beats up the guard, however, whilst Cleo steals the artefact that she claims she created and can aid them in taking down Malivore.

At the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted, Kaleb and MG talk with Alaric. MG and Kaleb suggest the two of them go looking for Cleo, but Alaric is reluctant, citing that Cleo wanted nothing to do with the school, therefore they should leave her alone. Kaleb remarks that it is possible that she could be convinced, and Alaric agrees to allow the two of them to team up to look for them. He shows the two of them a newspaper article that shows a museum was burgled the previous night, and the security guards suspects look eerily like Cleo and Landon.

At the Wellness Retreat for Witches, Hope, Lizzie, and Josie are still confused about the return of Ryan Clarke. They lock Ryan in the trunk of the car and stop at a gas station on their way back to Mystic Falls. Hope seems deep in thought during the conversation at the gas station, and when Lizzie and Josie go into the store to pay, Hope opens the trunk of the car and asks Ryan about his plan. Ryan surmises that with the return of the monsters, there must be another Malivore portal. Ryan suggests the two of them track down and close the portal, and this is enough to convince Hope, who takes off with Clarke behind Josie and Lizzie's back.

MG and Kaleb talk with the security guard, showing him photographs of Cleo and Landon. The security guard confirms that these are the suspects, and MG compels the guard to forget about them, and what they stole. MG finds an entry card for a hotel nearby, and believes this to be the location in which Cleo and Landon are holding out.

Hope and Clarke stop in the Woods and in an attempt to do a locator spell, Hope draws blood from Clarke. She is surprised, however, to find that he bleeds blood, not Malivore mud; he remarks that he tried to tell her he changed but she would not listen. Momentarily, Ryan reveals that he is human, having found an artifact possible of granting the hearts most desires. Hope laughs at this, and Ryan is surprised when he finds out that Hope was able to open the artefact that he spent so long in attempt of. Ryan asks if there is anything else he needs to know, and Hope reveals that she and Landon are no longer a couple, but the two are interrupted when the locator spell begins to work.

Back at the hotel, Cleo melts down the artefact she created from Malivore mud. She remarks that they must try to trap Malivore within the Prison World and then find a way to destroy it, but the two are confused when the spell fails for some reason.

With Hope off scheming, Josie and Lizzie talk about their next move. Lizzie suggests that they should try to pair Hope up with someone else to keep her mind off searching for a way to bring back Landon. They are surprised when Ethan pulls up outside of the gas station asking if they need a ride.

At the hotel, Cleo and Landon talk about their frustrations. Landon tells Cleo about his past and wanting to help her, and tells her that she truly can trust him. After this, the two agree to try once more to figure out how to defeat Malivore.

Outside of the Salvatore School, Lizzie tries to bring Ethan around to the idea of dating Hope, but he is reluctant. She agrees to give him a tour around the school, but Josie remarks that this is a bad idea. Lizzie suggests that Josie tell Alaric about Hope's trip whilst she talks with Ethan.

At the hotel, Cleo tells Landon about her abilities as a muse and how she would inspire DaVinci every morning. She tries to inspire Landon but it is initially unsuccessful. As she is finally successful, the two are interrupted when Hope arrives. Hope questions Landon and Cleo on their behavior, but things become tense and Hope leaves the room.

Back at the Salvatore School, Finch and Josie talk, but are interrupted when Lizzie arrives in the room on her tour with Ethan, causing Josie to make the two invisible to hide from the others. Lizzie and Ethan talk about the Salvatore School but opt to play football instead. When Josie reverses the spell, she finds that Finch has left her alone in the hallway.

Ryan and Landon talk at the hotel after Cleo leaves to talk with Hope. After a while, Ryan becomes suspicious of Landon when he refers to Clarke being in "the darkness" once again, and remarks that he didn't tell anyone other than Hope that he was thrown back into the darkness — this gives Clarke enough proof in his theory that Landon is not who he says he is, but an imposter.

Cleo tells Hope that she can only apologize for her behavior, but the situation is not what it seems; her and Landon are simply working together to find a way to defeat Malivore. Hope seems reluctant to listen to Cleo, however, and Cleo tells her that she hopes the two can be friends someday when all of this is over. With this, Hope returns to the hotel room to find Clarke bleeding out on the floor after having his throat slashed. Hope tries to heal him with her blood but he refuses in fear of her blood sending him back to the darkness. With no other way of healing him, she cauterizes the bleeding with an "incendia" spell.

In the car park, Landon tries to get Cleo to get into the car with him, but she refuses, citing that she will not go anywhere with him until he tells her what he is planning. Before she has time to run, however, she is devoured by Landon, who is revealed to be Malivore. Alaric witnesses this and sedates Malivore as Hope arrives.

Clarke awakens in Mystic Falls Hospital and is surprised to see Hope sitting by his side. Clarke tries to tell Hope that Landon isn't who she thinks he is, but she reveals that she already knows. The two talk, and Clarke tells Hope that Malivore is planning something big.

Pulling together, Hope and the other members of the Salvatore Squad confront Malivore, who is now locked in a cage at the Salvatore School. Hope demands that their friends be returned from Malivore, but he remarks that there is something he wants too before he obliges.
