Long Time, No See is the eighth episode of the third season of Legacies and the fortieth episode of the series overall.

Summary[]

BLIND SPOTS — MG finds himself on the outs with the Super Squad after a controversial decision he made comes to light. Hope puts a risky plan in motion regardless of the potential consequences. Kaleb, Cleo and Alaric join forces when the latest monster shows up. Josie, Lizzie and Jed also appear.^[2]

Plot[]

LGC308-001~Dream-Croatoan — A croatoan stands at the gates of the Salvatore School

Standing outside of the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted, another monster from Malivore lurks beyond the gates of the school, which is seen burning in the distance. After the monster flees from the school, Hope reveals herself, and suddenly finds Landon standing behind her. In the distance, however, the two see Malivore approaching, and Hope tries numerous spells to fight him off. Suddenly, Hope awakens to find that the experience has been a dream, but the spell she cast within the dream has occurred in real life, and has caused carnage in the room she is sharing with Cleo.

Later that morning, Hope talks with Alaric about the dream, and he tells her that sometimes gates symbolize thresholds but can also symbolize that something is blocking someone from moving on. With this, Hope questions why they haven't used the ascendant to rescue Landon, but Alaric tells her that they cannot risk more monsters escaping the Prison World unless they have concrete proof that Landon is actually alive. Hope leaves to find the proof that Alaric requires.

Meanwhile, following his actions and decision to hide the Ascendant from everyone at the Salvatore School, MG finds himself ostracized and ignored by his fellow students, all of whom refuse to allow him to sit or speak to them during lunch. MG tries to talk with Kaleb and help him with setting some traps for the monsters, but finds that he has also lost touch with Kaleb, who decides to team up with Cleo instead.

LGC308-038-Hunter — The hunter looks at the letter left by Landon.

Hope teams up with Lizzie to astral project within the Prison World and look for clues that could indicate that Landon is still trapped there. The two are interrupted by Josie, who wants in on the plan, but Lizzie turns her away, remarking that she should be enjoying the "muggle" life she chose for herself. Lizzie and Hope project into the Prison World and are able to find a letter left at the gate of the Salvatore School. They read the letter which is addressed to anyone whom may find it, written by Landon. Believing that they have found enough evidence to prove Landon is alive, the two project back into the real world. They are witnessed, however, by a figure in heavy armor who looks at the letter left by Landon.

LGC308-039-Lizzie-Wade-Jed-Alaric — The Super Squad meet.

MG arrives at the Super Squad meeting, sarcastically remarking that he would've been on time had anyone told him of the meeting. Hope outlines her plan, including harnessing the celestial event later that night to activate the Ascendant. Alaric understands that the plan is risky and tells the group that participation is voluntary. MG, however, is reluctant to allow the plan to go ahead and tells everyone that he kept the Ascendant hidden to keep the monsters locked within Malivore. Despite his wishes to return Landon to Hope, MG remarks that the possibility of a monster escaping Malivore is not worth the risk. With this, he leaves the meeting given nobody aligns with his opinion.

Cleo and Kaleb talk about possible methods of retrieving Landon, and Cleo remarks a tale about "The Ferryman", a mythical man who carries spirits across borders. Kaleb remarks that they are trying to bring Landon back alive, therefore this wouldn't work, but Cleo suggests that they could ask. When Kaleb makes a joke about Malivore not being as simple as asking which monster to release, Cleo asks how they would know if they haven't tried it. Kaleb tells Cleo that he is late for the Super Squad meeting but will consider the proposal.

Arriving at the Super Squad meeting, Kaleb questions the presence of MG, and Alaric remarks that he isn't involved. With this, Hope asks all of the members whether they agree with the plan, but Lizzie pulls out last minute, siding with MG. This causes issues for Hope, given the Ascendant needs a Gemini witch^[3] to power it; without Lizzie, Hope finds that her plan falls apart.

Realizing that she may have lost her only way to rescue Landon, Hope turns to Josie for help, prying her away from precious time with Finch. Hope is deceitful, however, and tells Josie that Lizzie will be helping them. When they arrive at the cemetery, however, Josie is surprised to find that Lizzie isn't partaking in the spell. Josie tries to explain that without her magic she is useless to Hope, but Hope hands her the coin wherein she stored her magic and pleads with her to take back the magic and help her.

Meanwhile, Lizzie has helped MG escape with the Ascendant, promising that the two will run and keep the Ascendant from Hope at all costs. At the gas station, however, Lizzie realizes that Hope will turn to Josie for help with the spell, therefore she must protect her at all costs. With this, Lizzie uses her magic to siphon MG, causing him to desiccate. She explains that the only way to protect Josie from Hope is to give her the Ascendant, therefore she will.

Back at the Salvatore School, Kaleb tries to tell Cleo that Lizzie foiled Hope's plans for at least another month, therefore they have more time to get to know one another. Cleo is weak, however, and when Kaleb asks what she has done, she reveals that she has summoned the Ferryman, but it is not money that he wants. Cleo and Kaleb ask for Alaric's help, and whilst he is angry, he tells them to retrieve some of Landon's belongings as the Ferryman will need something to lock onto Landon's soul.

Just before Josie can take back her magic from the coin, Lizzie arrives, taking the coin and cloaking it. She pulls out the Ascendant and tells Hope that she will aid her in performing the spell. Josie is reluctant to allow her to do this, but Lizzie insists, remarking that she loves her and must protect her at all costs.

In the woods behind the school, Alaric, Cleo, and Kaleb sing to the Ferryman. Cleo and Kaleb are confused, and Alaric explains a tale of how a creature was charmed into doing the bidding of a man through song rather than physical goods. With this, their song inspires the Ferryman and after handing over some of Landon's belongings, he disappears.

Lizzie and Hope begin the spell to open the Prison World, but Lizzie remarks that it is now more painful than ever. Josie explains that the Necromancer was full of dark magic when he was trapped, so they are more than likely experiencing the pain. Josie tells Lizzie to let go, but she cannot, and Hope pleads with her to carry on. As the spell continues, Josie jumps into the circle and begins absorbing some of the dark energy. They are suddenly thrown back, however, when someone interjects into the circle smashing the Ascendant; Hope is relieved when this turns out to be none other than Landon himself.

The following day, Kaleb and Cleo talk about the previous night, and Cleo makes a joke about possibly joining the Super Squad, which Kaleb tells her they will take it under consideration. Meanwhile, Lizzie apologizes to MG for her actions, but is saddened when he explains that the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted may not be the best place for him anymore. Josie returns back to Mystic Falls High School and takes residence with an old friend of Alaric and Caroline's.

Hope and Landon talk, and Landon remarks that he remembers most of their time together and everything that happened afterwards. Hope explains that she made a few people angry with her actions but Landon understands, remarking that doing everything you can for someone you love is a classic Mikaelson trait.

Benjamin Raab's daughter drew the sigil design for the astral projection spell to the prison world.^[4] It would be used for a second time in You Can't Run From Who You Are.
Hope claims that Lizzie was the only "Gemini" witch they had to activate the ascendant. This is a continuity error, as other witches, such as Bonnie and Emma have used the ascendant with success without the need of Lizzie or Josie.
- While this could be a lack of knowledge on Hope's part, she is not corrected by either of the Saltzmans with whom she attempted the spell with.
