Nora: When I was a girl, I loved my mother deeply. She loved me, too, until she found out about my little siphoning problem. If she only knew that was just one of the things that made me different. When she turned her back on me, I thought I'd never find that kind of love again. You proved me wrong. Thank you, Lily.

Valerie: You knew me at my brightest and my darkest. No matter what my mood, you always saw the light in me. I'll miss you, Lily.

Damon: Lily, you were a terrible mother when you were alive, and you were a terrible mother when you were dead.

Stefan: I'm so sorry. I promise I'll make this right.

— In memoriam to Lily Salvatore in Cold as Ice

Lily Salvatore has had two funerals throughout The Vampire Diaries. Lily's first funeral was in 1858 when it was believed that she died of consumption; little did anyone know she was turned into a vampire.

Lily Salvatore's second funeral took place in Cold as Ice at the local cemetery.

Season Seven[]

In Cold as Ice, Stefan and Damon carried the coffin to to cemetery. There were only four people in attendance: her biological sons Stefan and Damon, and two members of her adoptive family Nora and Valerie. According to them Beau couldn't bring himself to say goodbye, while Nora's girlfriend Mary Louise had a fight with her. Lily's true love Julian also wasn't in attendance. Nora and Mary Louse gave their eulogies and left, leaving Stefan and Damon alone. She was buried in the same place she was supposed to be buried in 1858.
