Give 'Em Hell Kid is the twenty-first episode of the third season of The Originals and the sixty-fifth episode of the series overall.
Summary[]
A MAN ON A MISSION — After receiving new visions of the looming prophecy, Freya uncovers that her family is on a collision course with a dangerous new enemy. Meanwhile, with the help of Detective Kinney, Vincent and Kol travel to the ancestral world to put a stop to the witches and take back their city once and for all. Elsewhere, Klaus and Elijah confront Marcel after a heartbreaking plan gone wrong has sent him spiraling. Hayley and Davina also appear.
Plot[]
Two separate funerals take place: Davina and Camille. Marcel, Josh, Vincent and Kol attend the former's, while Hayley and the Mikaelsons attend Camille's. Freya stays behind, to see Alexis' visions using her bones. Kol, though, tells them they can rot in hell for all he cares.
Will Kinney attends Camille's wake, as a friend and detective, as he knows something isn't right about her death. Marcel briefly shows up, and leaves just as quickly as he showed up; Klaus follows him to talk.
Kinney is persistent in Vincent telling him the truth about Camille's death, and he eventually gives in. He takes Kinney to his former home, which he can't sell nor rent because people think it's haunted. Having told him about the witches and the Ancestors, he pulls out a device called un dépôt d'argent, a mystical battery cell capable of storing all kinds of just negative mojo. It will sever the link between the Ancestors' domain and the world of the living.
Freya has no success in seeing the visions, it keeps fading. But when Elijah touches, they both are taken aback by the visions. They see Marcel's eyes glow red, Elijah dying from his bite, and Klaus getting staked. Freya realizes Vincent must've taken the serum extracted from Aurora's heart and given it to Marcel. She doesn't sense the serum, confirming their fears. The power she stole from the Ancestors was enough to handle Lucien, but it has faded; she couldn't stop Marcel if he took the serum. At the loft, Klaus asks Marcel to follow him. Elijah tries calling him, but Klaus won't pick up.
Kol is packing his belongings when a music box starts playing and candles light up, then he sees Davina in the mirror. It's in his head, but real too, as Davina is trying to reach out to him.
Klaus takes him to a bridge, the bridge they went on to scatter Marcel's father's ashes. He talks about their past, but Marcel says being a part of their family hasn't been a gift and whatever debts he owes them he has already paid. Klaus still tries to make peace, insistent that Marcel is their family. Elijah arrives. Things turn hostile again.
Kol tells Vincent he's not going blow up the Ancestral well, not by himself anyway. He's coming too, and Davina's spirit sent him to Vincent; parts of her remain, bound to those she loved. Kol needs to reach back and to see her. Vincent tells Kol to follow him.
Marcel shows them he has Lucien's serum, thanks to Vincent. "Why not take it?" since, as Marcel says, loyalty never got him anywhere, and the Mikaelsons only responded to a show of force. Klaus tells him to end the foolishness, but Marcel argues what difference it would make if he's family to them. The serum would only make them equals, and Klaus would hate having no control over Marcel. Elijah sees the vision coming true, Marcel standing tall and proud in the middle of the bridge.
Kol, Josh and Vincent are at the cemetery. With Josh sitting between the two, they use Josh as their link to the living. There, Vincent chants a spell on the device. Davina appears and they're momentarily reunited. She wants Vincent out, as the witches will need a leader. In his place, she will cut off the Ancestors' link to the living by herself. Vincent wakes up.
Marcel says he used to admire "always and forever," it gave him faith in those he loved. But now he sees it as an excuse to do whatever they want, in the name of protecting themselves. They can call him family all they want, but Marcel is done being their friend. Elijah plays the vision in his mind; just as Marcel says he'll be their worst nightmare or enemy from this day forward, Elijah rips his heart out and he falls into the river. Klaus is upset and heartbroken. Elijah agrees that Marcel was their friend and family, but he became their foe the moment Davina was gone. As the leader of the Strix entrusted with all the Mikaelsons' secrets, Elijah says he had no choice but to kill Marcel.
Kol tells Davina about the first time he saw her. She was leaving the church with a look on her face like the world was on her shoulders. She brushed up against dead flowers, stopped, brought them back to life with magic, and smiled. Kol says in that moment, he felt alive. They kiss a final time, and he wakes up. Davina chants the spell, and the cemeteries explode one by one.
Klaus announces that Marcel is dead, and leaves the loft. Josh says he convinced Marcel not to take the serum, but Vincent assures him that Marcel drank it the moment Vincent gave it to him.
Marcel wakes up, eyes glowing red, swimming out of the water beneath the bridge.

Behind the Scenes[]
- This episode marks Danielle Campbell's final appearance as a series regular.
- This episode hit the series lowest point in viewers to date with 0.79 million.
- Our set decoration team always works to make our world feel as authentically New Orleans as possible, which means there are lots of lovely details that don't necessarily make it to the screen. During Cami's second line funeral — in addition to the dancers, mourners, musicians and tourists — there were our ubiquitous fortune-telling stands, complete with candles, crystals, and tarot cards, which is how I ended up getting talked into divining Daniel's future between takes. For the record, he is the King of Wands, a "natural born leader," and a "visionary." He did not disagree with this assessment.[2]
- The S.W.A.T. team Kinney enlists to take down the witches at the bodega was comprised of very real S.W.A.T. people — and our action-loving director Jeff was pretty much a kid at Christmas when they arrived on set. Needless to say, they were a bit of an intimidating bunch — at least at first (they're all actually very nice guys!). However, we're pretty sure there was less goofing around than usual around that night.[2]
- Also to be filed under things that were very, very real: the cockroaches in Vincent's old house. Apparently we got a bit lucky with the ones that climbed up the wall turns out, cockroaches don't respond to verbal commands all that well, and they pretty much do as they please. Go figure. Personally, as a former New Yorker with a bit of insect phobia, I'm hoping that next time we can locate some tiny, realistic roach robots.[2]
- There are few things in production as challenging — and mildly disorienting — as true night shoots, especially when you're in a new and far-flung location. For two nights in a row, the entire production worked from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. to get the pivotal bridge scenes between Klaus, Marcel, and Elijah, which is how a bunch of the crew ended up celebrating a good day of shooting with a nightcap in the lobby of our hotel just as all the other guests were starting to line up for their pancakes.[2]
- Davina's big hero moment — ultimately her revenge on the ancestors — was, in part, inspired by the movie Terminator 2, when the character of Miles Dyson (also known as Olivia Pope's dad!) manages to hold on just long enough to blow up the Cyberdyne labs. Of course, we'd like to think that Davina's sacrifice was equally heroic, with just a *touch* more romance thrown in for good measure.[2]
