A hybrid is a cross-section between two species. The only known hybrid so far is Klaus, a half-vampire and half-werewolf.
History
Klaus, a vampire and werewolf hybrid
The only known hybrid, Klaus, is half-vampire and half-werewolf. Before being turned into vampires and becoming the Originals, his mother cheated on her husband and conceived Klaus by a man with werewolf genes in him. When the husband learnt about her wife's perfidy, he set out and killed the man and his whole family, starting the feud between vampires and werewolves which has been perpetuated across the ages.
Being a hybrid, Klaus was much more powerful than his siblings and parents. However, witches cast a spell on him to restrain his werewolf side and stop him from changing. They bound the curse with the blood of a Petrova doppelganger and a moonstone.
In 15th century England, Klaus came across Katerina Petrova, later to be known as Katherine Pierce, a doppelganger. He wooed her and planned to use her to break the curse. However, upon learning the truth, Katerina stole the moonstone and fled. In order to get back both a Petrova doppelganger and the moonstone, Klaus spread a rumor about a supposed Sun and Moon Curse which limited the vampires and werewolves' powers. In so doing, he set both vampires and werewolves, two warring species, into searching a Petrova doppelganger and the moonstone for him.
If Klaus succeeds in breaking the curse, he will be able to change into a werewolf and also procreate, thus, giving birth to a more powerful species than vampires and werewolves, all under his command.
Powers and Abilities
The only known power that a hybrid is said to possess, apart from the powers of the two species of which he is a cross-section, is:
- Procreation: Hybrids can procreate to produce new hybrids.
- Invulnerability: The only thing that can kill an Original is the silver dagger with white-oak ash. A Werewolf heals from wounds made by silver-objects. As Klaus is both, Original and Werewolf. Only a powerful Witch who can channel strong magic to weaken him.
- New Abilities: Hybrids gained new abilities.
- Hybrids blood can cure a Werewolf bite.
- Hybrids can wield the dagger and kill an original without killing themselves in the process, and transform anytime they want.
- Transformation Control: Unless Klaus was guessing it can be assumed He and any other Hybrid he makes will go threw their first Transformation against their will after which they will have complete control.
- Lycanthrope Enhancement: This is the ability all Werewolves have to increase their powers in Human form making their eyes change color and glow, Hybrids will be able to control this ability and werewolves most likely can but can't keep it active like a hybrid can there for they will have to train themselves to keep it on longer, Klaus did this when he vamped out his face to give Katherine his blood so it's not yet known if this is a normal part of a Hybrid vamping out or if he did it just to do it.
- Strength: Hybrids will likely have Strength far superior than most Vampires at or around their age or even ones far older than themselves and are definitely far superior than a werewolf in their Human form it's not yet known if they are strong enough to fight a fully Transformed Werewolf though the only Hybrid most likely able to will be Klaus since he is part Original Vampire.
- Super Speed: Hybrids will likely have speed superior than both Vampires and Werewolves in Human Form and Werewolf Form.
- Heightened Senses: Hybrids will have the senses of a Vampire and Werewolf making them superior to both species.
- Super-Agility: Hybrids will have the agility of a Vampire and Werewolf making them superior.
- Accelerated Healing: Both Vampires and Werewolves have superhuman regenerative abilities so 1 can assume a Hybrids healing will be at a more extensive level thus making them heal at a faster speed.
- Durability: A Hybrids durability is higher than a Vampire or Werewolf which means it'll be harder to damage them,render them unconscious or kill them in Human or Werewolf Form.
- Daytime Walking: Because of the Werewolf in them a Hybrid will be able to move around during the day without a Magic ring like the ones Stephan,Damon and Caroline have.
- Immortality: Most likely Hybrids will be Immortal due to their Vampire side.
- Hybrid Making: Most likely since a Hybrid is a combination of Vampire and Werewolf one can assume there will be 2 ways to make a Hybrid The Vampire way or The Werewolf way, The 3rd way is to be born with the Lycanthrope curse or be Infected with it and as long as the curse is dormant get turned into a Vampire and upon feeding while as a Transitioned Vampire kill the victim then the transition into a Hybrid happens instantly.
