Hey – when you do wake up, I want you to know that I spent my life doing exactly what I felt I was born to do. I was happy.

Jeremy Gilbert is a former main character and a male protagonist on The Vampire Diaries. Jeremy is the adoptive brother and biological cousin of Elena Gilbert, as well as a former medium, although this status became defunct following the collapse of the Other Side. He is also a member of the Brotherhood of the Five. His best friends are Matt Donovan, Tyler Lockwood, and Bonnie Bennett, who was also his girlfriend. Following his resurrection in the Season Four finale, he moved into the Salvatore Boarding House with his sister and her boyfriend, Damon Salvatore since their house was burned down by Elena after Jeremy's death. However, he moved out of the boarding house halfway through Season Five and moved into the Lockwood Mansion with Matt and Tyler.

Prior to the beginning of the series, his parents died in a tragic car accident that Elena managed to survive thanks to a vampire, Stefan Salvatore, who rescued her before she could drown. As a way of coping with the accident, he started dealing and using drugs, but soon stopped after the death of his first girlfriend, Vicki Donovan, who had supposedly died of an overdose. Following the murder of his second girlfriend Anna, Jeremy purposely overdosed on pills after drinking vampire blood in the hope of becoming a vampire so he could turn off his humanity switch. However, his attempt to become a vampire failed, and the blood healed the damage the pills caused to his system.

He later began a romantic relationship with Bonnie Bennett, which ended after he was caught kissing the corporeal ghost of Anna in Ghost World. Jeremy was shot by Sheriff Forbes after Damon dodged the bullet in As I Lay Dying and was revived by Bonnie, who is a witch and who at the time was channeling the power of over a hundred massacred witches at the witch burial ground. However, the spell that caused him to be revived also gave him the power to see ghosts, causing him to be haunted by the ghosts of his dead girlfriends Vicki and Anna.

After experiencing multiple traumatic events as a result of the supernatural drama in his town, including being compelled by Klaus to stand in front of a speeding car, Elena feared for his safety and arranged for Damon to compel him to live with family friends in Denver. He returned to Mystic Falls after Elena and Damon learned that Klaus was aware of where he was living and traveled to bring him back. He was revealed to be a potential supernatural vampire hunter and, following the death of Connor Jordan, he activated his membership into The Five. After helping Professor Shane free Silas from his tomb, he was forced by Katherine Pierce to raise the immortal, who then drained him of his blood and snapped his neck. He was able to survive numerous deaths due to the Gilbert ring, but since he had become a supernatural hunter, the ring no longer worked on him, and his death became permanent. His corpse was burned inside the Gilbert house shortly afterward when Elena, distraught after losing the last biological family she had left, was unable to bear living in the house any longer and set the house on fire, arguing it to was the only believable cover story for Jeremy's death.

Jeremy was brought back to life by Bonnie in Graduation, and lived in the Salvatore Boarding House with his sister, Damon, and Stefan until Rescue Me, when he moved in with his best friends, Matt and Tyler, at the Lockwood Mansion. He moved back in the Salvatore Boarding House in Yellow Ledbetter, as no one was living there at the time, due to the fact that Damon was dead and vampires couldn't enter Mystic Falls due to the Magic Purification Spell.

It was also revealed that Jeremy's supernatural hunter status was inactive while in his hometown as a result of the Purification Spell, as it blanketed Mystic Falls with a barrier that nullified any non-traditional magic that crossed over it. After Kai absorbed the Travelers' spell around Mystic Falls, Jeremy regained his access to his supernatural hunter abilities while inside the town borders again. Later, Jeremy came to the conclusion that it was time for him to move on with his life and leave Mystic Falls in favor of living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While nearly all of his friends and family are under the impression that Jeremy is going to art school there, in reality, Jeremy has moved there to hunt vampires, with only Alaric, who planned to feed him leads, knowing Jeremy's true plans. Jeremy made his exit as a main character on The Vampire Diaries in the episode Stay.

Jeremy comes back to Mystic Falls after Elena Gilbert awakens from her magical slumber. He now works as a teacher at Alaric's Salvatore Boarding School.

Jeremy is a member of the Gilbert Family and one of the members of The Five.

Early History

Jeremy was born to Grayson and Miranda Gilbert in Mystic Falls on October 13, 1994. The two had always wanted a child but adopted a baby girl, Elena, two years prior to that, who actually is his biological cousin as they fake the adoption. She is actually the daughter of his uncle, John Gilbert and his high school girlfriend Isobel better known for being Alaric Saltzman's wife. As a young teenager, Jeremy was gifted with the talent to draw, however, after both of his parents died, Jeremy became severely depressed and started using drugs and drinking continuously. He briefly had a sexual relationship with Vicki Donovan, although she later broke up with him and started dating Tyler Lockwood.

Throughout The Vampire Diaries Series

Jeremy dealing drugs

Jeremy was taking drugs, which he is seen sharing with Vicki Donovan, with whom he had a sexual relationship over the summer. He was also a major alcoholic, which was hard on Elena. Jeremy had feelings for Vicki though she kept turning him away in favor of Tyler, who had no true feelings for her. Vicki, who had been turned into a Vampire by Damon, was staked and killed by Stefan. Elena, worried about Jeremy's happiness, gets Damon to compel Jeremy to forget about Vicki's death. Alaric, Jeremy's new history teacher, got him to write a paper to improve his grades. At the library, he met Anna who claimed she was home-schooled. After kissing her, he sees her face change. Suspicious, he searches "vampires" online. He invites Anna to his house and when they're cooking, he cuts his hand purposefully. After taunting her, she drinks his blood but stops when Jenna arrives home. She comes back and asks why he would confront her and he says he wants her to turn him into a vampire.

Anna meets Jeremy.

Caroline Forbes discovers the remains of Vicki's body in the woods and Anna realizes Jeremy only wanted to turn to be with Vicki. After he confronts her about how she was just using him when they met, they began dating. She didn't talk to him for a while following her mother's death. He comforts her. Anna gives Jeremy some of her blood, telling him if he wants to turn, he can leave town with her. He says he can't. Anna later finds him at The Grill, knowing he's in danger of being killed by the tomb vampires as he's a founding families member. She reacts to the device and several deputies find her and take her away. Damon shows up at Jeremy's that night and informs him that Anna's dead. Damon apologizes for taking away his memories of Vicki but offers to do the same for Anna. Jeremy says there's still a hole in his heart, he just doesn't remember why anymore. However, wanting the pain to go away, he drinks Anna's blood and takes some of Elena's pills from after the accident. He then lays down and closed his eyes.

Jeremy before he wakes up after being overdosed.

Jeremy's attempts to become a vampire failed because he didn't take enough pills to kill him and the blood he took healed him. After Stefan checks on Jeremy to make sure that he is not a vampire, John gives Jeremy his ring before leaving town. After being rejected by Elena, Damon kills Jeremy but the ring brings him back. Jeremy later threatens to expose Damon's secret, but Damon warns him that the ring will not save him.

When Damon arrives home he finds Jeremy in the house with a wooden stake in his hand. Jeremy informs him that he put vervain in the drink. Damon asks him why, Jeremy says he was going to kill him, but he abandons his plans saying that killing him will not solve anything.

Jeremy and Tyler bond.

After a while, Elena tells Jeremy that Mason Lockwood is a werewolf but asks him not to get involved. She explains that it is dangerous and asks him to stay away. At the Mystic Grill, Sarah and Aimee are playing pool when Sarah admits that she finds Jeremy attractive. Jeremy approaches Tyler and asks how he is. Tyler thanks him for being "cool" at his father's wake and Jeremy explains that he understands how Tyler feels. Aimee arrives to go home with Tyler, and Tyler invites Jeremy and Sarah to join them. Later, Sarah and Aimee are dancing and drinking at Tyler's house.

Sarah spots Jeremy's sketchbook and asks to have a look. She finds lots of drawings of "demon wolf-like things", while Jeremy closely observed Tyler. Tyler, sensing that Jeremy's testing his reaction from the images, uncomfortably asks what the pictures are about. Jeremy asks if Tyler still draws, and Tyler offers to show him something he is working on in the other room. When they move through, Tyler shuts the door and slams Jeremy up against the wall asking why he drew pictures of werewolves. "I know what you are" Jeremy tells him.

Sarah falls.

He asks how Jeremy knows about the werewolves, and Jeremy explains that his ancestor wrote about a curse running in the Lockwood Family in his journal. Tyler admits that Mason is a werewolf, but explains that he is not one yet. He reveals that you have to cause death to become a werewolf. Jeremy asks if Mason returned to tell him this, but Tyler reveals that he had to force the information out of him. "He's not here for me," he says. "He's here for this." He shows Jeremy the moonstone. Later, he explains that the moonstone is a natural rock which is supposed to have supernatural legends attached to it.

Jeremy asks why he didn't give the stone to Mason, and Tyler admits that he doesn't trust his uncle. Suddenly, Aimee and Sarah arrive and steal the stone, teasing the boys with it. Tyler says he will play for a bit but asks for them to give it back. Aimee, who is drunk, grabs the stone and runs upstairs with it, asking for Jeremy to follow. Tyler climbs up after her and tussles with her, but all of a sudden Sarah falls down the stairs. She lays at the bottom, not moving, and Tyler and Jeremy exchange worried glances, thinking she might be dead. However, Sarah suddenly opens her eyes and tells them: "Fooled you."

Jeremy Gilbert

In Plan B, Jeremy arrives at the Salvatore house and asks to speak to Damon. Damon initially refuses to listen. However, Jeremy explains that Tyler Lockwood isn't a werewolf yet because he hasn't activated the curse and adds that Mason is looking for a moonstone. Damon is intrigued, and Jeremy explains that he knows where the stone is. "I just want to help", he adds. He admits that Elena doesn't know about this. "Your search for life's purpose is as obvious as it is tragic" Damon tells him.

At the Salvatore House, Alaric arrives and asks what Jeremy is doing there. Jeremy explains that he found out about the moonstone. Alaric reveals that he has Isobel's research from Duke and explains that the werewolf curse is sealed with the moonstone. He adds that Mason might think he can use the moonstone to unseal the curse. Jeremy explains that Tyler has the moonstone and claims that he will be able to get it. "Now your life has purpose", Damon tells him. Damon arrives at the Lockwood house and tells Elena that Jeremy is helping him out.

Jeremy helps Damon.

Elena finds Jeremy and tells him that whoever helps Damon ends up dead. "I want you to stay out of it," she says. However, Jeremy explains that he is in this mess because of her and tells her that she can't tell him what to do. Meanwhile, Damon is shocked when Stefan tells him about Katherine and Mason. He suggests that Katherine must be using Mason, adding: "That's the beauty of Katherine - always up to something." He explains that Jeremy is getting the moonstone.

In the Mystic Grill, Jeremy approaches Tyler. He asks if he can have another look at the moonstone, claiming that he has been doing some research on it. Tyler reveals that he has given it to Mason. Back at the Salvatore house, Damon is using a hot poker to torture Mason for information about Katherine and the moonstone. Jeremy arrives with a plant and explains that it is sometimes called wolfsbane.

He adds that mythology suggests that it is toxic to werewolves. Damon takes the plant and holds it up against Mason's cheek (burning his skin). When Mason suggests that Damon is jealous of his relationship with Katherine, Damon stuffs the wolfsbane into Mason's mouth.

Jeremy talks to Tyler.

Jeremy looks on uncomfortably. He tells Damon that Mason would have spoken by now but Damon continues to torture him. Eventually, Mason reveals that Katherine is going to use the moonstone to lift the werewolf curse so that he doesn't have to turn anymore. He adds that she is going to do it because she loves him. "She's using you, you moron", Damon tells him. Mason says that he is done talking and Damon agrees, telling Jeremy to go for a walk. Jeremy refuses and tells Damon not to hurt Mason anymore. Damon grabs him by the throat and says: "Here it is. Kill or be killed". The guy's a werewolf - he will kill me the first chance he's got, so suck it up or leave. He wants me to kill him anyway, don't you Mason? It really is a curse, isn't it?" Jeremy leaves.

Elena is at home and asks where Jeremy is. Alaric explains that he went to his room because he wasn't hungry. Later, at the hospital, Elena tells Jeremy that the doctors said Jenna will be alright and admits that Jenna doesn't remember anything because of Katherine's compulsion. She explains that Katherine was trying to send a message and Jeremy tells her it's going to be okay. As they hug, Elena replies: "No it's not." However, Jeremy says: "She's going to pay, Elena. I don't know how, but she's going to pay."

In Masquerade, Jeremy is seen with Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan, and Damon as they prepare to kill Katherine at the Masquerade ball. Jeremy agrees to help and he assists Bonnie while Stefan, Damon, and Caroline deal with Katherine. Jeremy is seen striking up a conversation with Bonnie about her abilities and says they are cool. Jeremy is then seen asking what kind of spells Bonnie can do and even asks her if he can dance with her while they wait, to which Bonnie replies "no." Damon then sends Jeremy a message and tells him to do his part. Jeremy tells Katherine that Damon and Stefan have the moonstone and want to see her by the lake. When asked why he is their messenger, Jeremy replies "Because they know I am not afraid of you."

Jeremy makes the first look

When Katherine is seen fighting with Damon and Stefan it is revealed that her friend Lucy has cast a spell linking her and Elena together so that whatever happens to Katherine will also happen to Elena. Elena shows up at the party and Jeremy and Bonnie notice that she is bleeding and being hurt, so Jeremy runs up to the room where Damon and Stefan are fighting with Katherine so he can tell them to stop, because they are hurting Elena.

Jeremy is later seen with Bonnie asking her if she wants a ride home. Bonnie jokingly asks when he got his license. Jeremy laughs and says that he is not a kid anymore and Bonnie says yes, so he takes her home. It seems as though Bonnie and Jeremy are developing feelings for each other.

Jeremy tries to wake up Bonnie.

In Rose, it is Jeremy who helps Stefan figure out that Elena has been kidnapped saying "It's cool that you guys are back together but if Elena's gonna stay over, I need to know so I can cover for her." Jeremy also helps Stefan and Damon figure out where Elena is being held by letting Bonnie use his blood. Later Bonnie is up in his bedroom with him and they send a message to Elena, telling her Stefan and Damon are on their way.

The message drains a lot of power from Bonnie and causes her to faint and Jeremy has to care for her. When Elena finally gets home Jeremy is relieved showing that whatever problems he had with her and her secrets are all over.

The two play pool.

In Katerina, Bonnie is in the School parking lot then she drops her books. Jeremy helps pick up the books and then asks her if she wanted to play billiards at the grill (showing that he really does like her). Bonnie agrees and then a new guy asks them if they know where the office is.

Jeremy introduced Bonnie and himself to the new kid who is named Luka. Jeremy ends up taking Luka up to the office.

In the Mystic Grill Jeremy comes over to Bonnie who is with Luka and Jonas and then escorts Bonnie to the billiard table and they start playing pool. The date is then hijacked by Luka, whom Bonnie finds out is a warlock. Jeremy is jealous of Bonnie's new-found relationship with Luka and leaves the Grill.

Jeremy and Bonnie.

In The Sacrifice, Jeremy is seen with Stefan, Damon, and Bonnie who are preparing to take the moonstone from Katherine. Bonnie takes a picture that belongs to Katherine and turns it to ash so they can blow the ash on Katherine which will knock her out for a minute or so. When Jeremy realizes that Bonnie is going to try and release the spell over the tomb that is holding Katherine, he becomes worried and tells Bonnie she could get hurt because she is not strong enough.

Bonnie insists that she will be okay, but Jeremy takes some of the ash behind Bonnie's back and goes to the tomb alone. Jeremy tries to get the moonstone out of the tomb, but Katherine stops him before he can leave, and bites him on the neck so she can feed.

Jeremy confesses his feelings for Bonnie

Bonnie and Stefan appear and find Jeremy being held captive by Katherine. Bonnie attempts to lower the barrier over the tomb, but passes out again. Katherine attempts to feed on Jeremy again, and Stefan rushes into the tomb to save him, and gets trapped himself. Jeremy heads home with Bonnie and the two start arguing.Bonnie asks Jeremy why he had to get involved. Jeremy said that he wanted to protect her.

Bonnie says that Jeremy can't feel that way about her. Jeremy attempts to kiss Bonnie, but she says that she can't. Bonnie then goes out the back door of the house leaving Jeremy alone. When Damon arrives at the house with Elena Jeremy informs them of what happened to Stefan.

Jeremy looks on.

In By the Light of the Moon, it still shows that Jeremy has still strong feelings for Bonnie after he tried to kiss her. Jeremy comes in as Bonnie says she needs some coffee and she places the moonstone in her bag before leaving. Jeremy asks Elena why she's on some suicide mission. With nobody around, Elena takes the moonstone and heads downstairs, telling Bonnie she's going to visit Stefan.

Bonnie blocks her, as Jeremy says the moonstone's gone. Elena reminds her Klaus is coming and she can't allow him to harm her family and friends. Elena finds her front door has been blocked by a seal. Bonnie tells her it's for the best.

Jeremy gives Bonnie a huge smile because their plan worked. Damon tells Jeremy, Bonnie's dealing with the moonstone, as he's on 'Elena Patrol' and Caroline's with Tyler. Damon tells Jeremy to keep an eye on Elena, as he leaves. When Elijah is invited in, Elena runs up to Jeremy's room and bangs on the door but Jeremy is listening to music, then goes to answer his door, and asks Elena "What is it?".

In Daddy Issues, at Recent Victims Memorial Jeremy sees Bonnie talking with Jonas Martin which seems to be upsetting her, he comes up and interrupts their conversation and walks away with her. Later he is seen at Mystic Grill restaurant with Bonnie having a good time.

Caroline finds out Jeremy likes Bonnie

In Crying Wolf, he is seen coming into the Mystic Grill after Bonnie rang him, and started talking to Caroline, she tells him Bonnie is over there with Luka. "She's giving him a sex smile" - Caroline, "Alright Caroline, I get it." - Jeremy. Jeremy is shown to be jealous about Bonnie and Luka and Caroline can see the way Jeremy feels about Bonnie. After Bonnie has done a powerful spell on Luka, Jeremy rushes over to take Luka back to Caroline's house.

When they get into Caroline's house, they find candles so Bonnie can do the spell. When Caroline was going to get the matches, Bonnie lit the candles then Caroline said, "Come on that's pretty hot."

The first kiss.

Bonnie asks Jeremy if he could get her a bowl of water, then Caroline pushes out Bonnie's feelings for Jeremy. When Bonnie is asking questions for Luka, he brings up the Sacrifice of Elena and Jeremy just says "No" and shakes his head. When Caroline is taking Luka back to the Mystic Grill, Bonnie and Jeremy are left in the house by themselves and all of Bonnie's feelings for Jeremy start to come pouring out. Bonnie says she's known him forever through the good and the bad times. She also says "And over night you turned into this hot guy who's really sweet an -" but then gets interrupted by Jeremy saying "You think I'm hot?" Then the two share a very passionate kiss.

In The Dinner Party, Jeremy goes into the Grill and sees Bonnie sitting on a table by herself and asks "What are you doing?" and Bonnie says "thinking about last night and the spell". Jeremy is upset that Bonnie doesn't say anything about their kiss last night. Then Luka comes over and Jeremy tells him to back off because he was interrogating Bonnie about last night. Jeremy then asks if Bonnie if she wanted to go over to his house. Later on, Bonnie comes over to the Gilbert House to practice a spell, but then when she walks into the house there are lots of candles lit, she is slightly hesitant, thinking it's a date. But Jeremy finally agrees that it'll just be time to work on some spells. They practice a spell with fire then Jeremy asks if she can practice on

him because the human body is mostly water. Jeremy was helping Bonnie to enhance her channeling ability. So Bonnie puts her hand on Jeremy's chest, they both smile. But then Jonas breaks in and in anger, he takes away her powers and threatens her that "she'll answer to him if any harm comes to his son". Meanwhile, Jeremy is put up against a wall by Jonas' powers. Jonas threatens Bonnie then leaves the house. Bonnie starts crying because her powers are gone and Jeremy comforts her in his arms.

Jeremy after Bonnie leaves

In The House Guest, Stefan informs Jeremy and Bonnie that Katherine is back. When Stefan leaves, Jeremy tries to kiss Bonnie but Bonnie is concerned that people might see. But she quickly kisses Jeremy and says she will tell Elena soon. Then at the Mystic Grill Bonnie tells Elena about her and Jeremy and Elena approves. Back at home, Bonnie admits that she feels bad that Luka died but Jeremy says that he doesn't. Bonnie adds that she hated not being able to help. Upstairs, Jeremy admits that he is worried about Bonnie because the only witch who could have given her back her powers is dead. However, Bonnie reveals that when Jonas grabbed her, he returned her powers. She adds that Jonas wants her to kill Klaus and Jeremy replies: "Did he include a how?" Bonnie reveals that he did and kisses Jeremy.

Jeremy and Bonnie

In Know Thy Enemy, Jeremy, Bonnie and Damon go to the Martins' house to pick up the grimoires. Bonnie works with Jeremy and Damon in order to find the spell they will need to gather the power of the witches killed in the massacre. Damon takes them to the site where the witches were burned. Damon knew where it was because he had tried to save Emily, but only because she was the key to getting Katherine back. Inside the house on the site of the massacre, Damon finds that he cannot move and tells Bonnie that if this is a prank it's not funny. His ring then stops working and he begins to burn. He tells Bonnie to help and she closes her eyes and starts muttering a spell. Damon is able to move again and Bonnie tells him that she doesn't think that the witches like him being there. He exited the house. Then Bonnie called the witches and soon after she got a lot of power. Jeremy is worried about Bonnie after getting all the power from the witches. Later, Bonnie and Jeremy are at Elena's house when Jeremy reads the warning the witches gave to Bonnie and is upset because if Bonnie uses too much power she will die. He asks her how much power she will need to kill an Original and Bonnie tells him that she needs all of it. She tells him that if she dies it was to save Elena, him, and everybody else.

Jeremy dancing with Bonnie.

In The Last Dance, you see Jeremy and Bonnie walk into the lunch hall and Jeremy confronts Bonnie saying "Do you think Elena knows what it's going to take for you to do that Klaus spell?" Then Jeremy reminds Bonnie that this power could kill her. Then Elena walks in and he leaves. At the school dance, Jeremy confronts Bonnie again on why she wants to kill herself for Elena and they are overheard by Damon. Jeremy goes to Stefan for help and Stefan tells Elena. After his conversation with Stefan, Jeremy is attacked by people Klaus compelled. When Bonnie pretends to die and Elena's holding her in her arms she says "No. Jeremy. Oh, my God, Jeremy. What about Jeremy?". Damon finds Jeremy and tells him everything about Bonnie, he goes to where Bonnie is being kept safe. He strokes her on the cheek and starts to light candles. When Bonnie wakes she hugs him and he promises to stay there with her.

He appears back on episode The Sun Also Rises. Over at the old witches' house, Jeremy and Bonnie look through the Grimoires to find a way of stopping Elena becoming a vampire. Meanwhile, Elijah, Alaric and Stefan arrive to speak to Bonnie. Elijah explains that the sacrifice will happen in stages - the werewolf will be killed, then the vampire, and then the doppelgänger. He says that once Elena dies, the curse will be broken and Klaus will become a hybrid. However, this will also be when Klaus is weakest and Bonnie will be able to deliver him to the brink of death. Elijah says he will finish the job. Inside, Jeremy reveals that he thinks he's found a spell that might help and decides to ask Stefan to bring Johnathan Gilbert's journals for more information. Alaric appears and asks to speak to Jeremy alone. He explains that Jenna has been taken. Bonnie casts the spell on John and Damon, Bonnie and Elijah leave for the sacrifice. Jeremy wants to accompany them, but Bonnie kisses him and casts a spell to make him pass out. Meanwhile, Jeremy asks John if he read everything about the spell and knows what happened to the mother after the child was brought back to life. John admits that he does and adds that he has saved his daughter and found peace. He hands Jeremy a letter and his ring, asking him to give them to Elena. Alaric is unsure what is going on but hears Damon and Elena return. Damon puts Elena on a couch and tells her that if she comes back as a vampire he'll stake her himself. Alaric and Jeremy appear and ask about Elena. Damon is forced to tell them both that Jenna was killed. As they gather, John quietly leaves the house. Elena wakes up and admits that she feels fine. Outside, John collapses on the ground, dead. Later, Elena gets ready for John and Jenna's funeral. Jeremy arrives and hands her John's letter and ring. Elena apologizes to him that he has lost so many people, but Jeremy tells Elena that he still has her. They hug sadly and Jeremy leaves.

"And yet, in spite of everything, we persevere"

In As I Lay Dying, the episode opens with Elena watching Jeremy sleeping. Later, Jeremy and Elena arrive at a special outdoor screening of Gone With The Wind. Jeremy is unconvinced but Elena explains that they need to keep living normal lives until Jenna's death isn't so hard to deal with. Caroline arrives with picnic food and tries to keep their spirits up. Alaric calls Jeremy, who is at the Gone With The Wind screening with Bonnie and Caroline. Jeremy admits that Elena went to see Damon and Alaric warns that he's in bad shape and the cops are after him. He advises Jeremy to get Elena somewhere safe if he finds her. Bonnie tells Jeremy to wait behind, but Jeremy refuses, saying that for once they can't stop him from getting involved.

Jeremy after being shot

Jeremy finds Damon and helps him into the Mystic Grill. Inside, Jeremy calls someone to tell them they are at the Grill. Liz arrives and shoots at Damon, but he rushes off quickly and the bullet hits Jeremy. Liz is shocked and, at that moment, Caroline and Bonnie arrive. Bonnie points out that Jeremy's ring won't work because he was hurt by a human, not a supernatural creature. Caroline feeds Jeremy her blood - much to her mother's shock - but it doesn't work. Bonnie realizes that she knows what to do and takes him away with Alaric, who has just arrived. Alaric and Bonnie take Jeremy to the witches' house and Bonnie tries to use the power of the old witches to revive Jeremy. She casts a spell but begins to worry as the other witches are angry at her for returning and don't want to help. She says there will be consequences, and Alaric tells her to get them to shut up as Jeremy is just a kid. Bonnie continues to cast the spell but her nose begins to bleed and she sobs. She calls to Emily, begging her to help as she loves Jeremy. However, the candles go out. Bonnie sobs as she believes Jeremy is dead for good, but then he wakes up. Bonnie hugs him and thanks Emily for helping.

Jeremy returns home and searches on the internet for "back from the dead". Bonnie speaks to him on webcam and he admits that he feels weird, but Bonnie points out that he has just been brought back from the dead and it's bound to feel strange. She jokes that he can thank her "tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that". They say good night and Alaric appears, explaining that he's going to head off. However, seeing how Jeremy looks, he decides to stay the night. Jeremy thanks him for everything he has done.

Jeremy seeing Anna and Vicki

However, Alaric teases Jeremy by revealing that he overheard Bonnie's suggestion that he thanks her "tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that".

The episode ends with Jeremy, who believes he has heard a sound. He thinks it is Alaric, but as he looks over the stairs, someone appears behind him. They soon disappear again. He walks downstairs but is shocked to see Anna standing in the kitchen. When he turns around, Vicki is standing there.

In The Birthday, back in Mystic Falls, we find out that Jeremy's been working at the Mystic Grill, where we find out that Bonnie's away with family but is staying in touch with Jeremy on the phone. But he hangs up when the lights start flickering, and then Vicki and Anna appear and disappear. Matt arrives in a bad mood to ask Jeremy to switch sections.

At the party, Jeremy smokes weed with Matt and Jeremy reveals that he has been seeing things, but doesn't quite tell Matt that his dead sister is one of those things. Jeremy offers to give a drunk and high Matt a ride home, but he suddenly sees Vicki in the car, asking him for help, he says: "Vicki", which confuses Matt.

Jeremy tries to shake it off and turns on the headlights, but Anna is standing right there. Eventually, he decides it would be best to walk. When they get back, Matt asks Jeremy why he said Vicki's name - and realizes that earlier Jeremy had been seeing things. Jeremy admits that he keeps seeing Vicki, but Matt shrugs it off, saying that he always sees Vicki because he misses her so much.

Jeremy seeks the aid of Matt in The Hybrid, to try and contact Vicki as he's her brother, which would allow a stronger connection. While they go through some of her things, Matt realizes he can't go through with it and asks Jeremy to leave. He had left a photo of him and his sister on a crate, and when he turned around again it was standing upright - not the position he had left it in.

Hyth (1).jpg

This leaves Matt confused, and he goes back to Jeremy, where they ultimately try and make a connection. Vicki appears to Jeremy at first, telling her she can come back. Glass shatters as she leaves again, and Anna pops up, warning Jeremy not to trust Vicki.

Hyth (2).jpg

In the episode Disturbing Behavior, Jeremy makes a startling discovery, now being able to communicate with Anna better. She tells him more about "The Other Side", that communicating with him is sort of a "push and pull" situation, how lonely she is being all alone, and the darkness she keeps feeling when Jeremy mentions Vicki. She warns him again that he should not trust her, or "let her in".

Katherine reveals to Damon that she kidnapped Jeremy and placed him in the back of the trunk after she discovered his secret from Bonnie - he can see and communicate with ghosts. Pearl told Katherine she had heard of a vampire that could kill Klaus, but wouldn't share anything more. Katherine knew that she could only trust one other person with this information, and that was Anna.

As she was dead, the only person who could reach her was Jeremy. After Damon threatened to hurt Jeremy (and actually knocking his head against some wood), Anna quickly told Jeremy about Mikael, but warned him not to wake him. Jeremy and Katherine team up to find the tomb and finally come to stand before it. As Katherine opens the crypt, Mikael awakens.

Jeremy and Anna soon discover that they are able to touch hands to there delight. In Ghost World at the Mystic Grill.

Jeremy and Anna kiss in the restroom. Due to Bonnie's spell, ghosts are now visible to all. Elena walks in on them and berates the both of them. She yells at Anna which causes her to disappear. She tells Jeremy that she won't tell Bonnie because it is his job to do it. Elena tells Caroline of what happen and Caroline tells Bonnie. Bonnie is surprised and more intent on getting the necklace.

At the Illumination Night, Anna is accused of stealing the necklace, but Jeremy defends her. Later, Anna gives the necklace back and tells Jeremy that Elena is right and she is holding him back. Jeremy goes to the witch house and gives Bonnie the necklace to destroy. She is distraught and asks Jeremy to leave when he tries to explain himself. This leaves their relationship in question.

In The New Deal, Klaus almost kills Jeremy by compelling him to stand in front of a car. Elena fears for his safety. Alaric has still not healed properly from the car crash, and is dying on the porch. Tony comes to Elena and says that if she invites him in, he will save Alaric. Elena has no choice, and is on the verge of saying yes, when a crossbow bolt hits Tony in the back. He falls to reveal Jeremy, holding a crossbow. Elena is in shock, but he replies simply; "He's not dead yet." He seizes a butcher's knife from the kitchen and cuts off Tony's head while Elena watches, crying. She has Damon compel Jeremy to go to Denver and forget Mystic Falls and not to think twice about coming back.

In Our Town, Jeremy is about to leave. Before being driven by Alaric to the airport, he says goodbye to his sister and Bonnie.

Jeremy leaving

In The Murder of One, he is shown to Bonnie by Klaus over the phone, and threatens her to do the spell that will unlink all Originals. It seemed like Kol was tracking Jeremy.

In Heart of Darkness, Elena and Damon goes to Denver to pick Jeremy up. They use this ability to contact ghosts to speak to Rose about which vampire she was turned from in order to work out which bloodline Damon, Stefan, and Caroline where created from.

Kol has been one of Jeremy's friends, Jeremy not knowing he is one of the Originals. Elena and Damon stay at Denver for some time to find out what information Rose has for them. While speaking to Rose, he finds out that something is going on between Damon and Elena when Rose says, "Tell Damon that I'm rooting for him and Elena."

In Do Not Go Gentle, Jeremy and Matt go to rescue Elena from Alaric and Esther.

In The Departed, Jeremy tries to protect Elena from the dangers now happening by getting Matt to take her out of Mystic Falls. He later tells Stefan that he and Matt are getting Elena out of town. Before the episode ends, Alaric appears before him now as a ghost letting him know that he never has to be alone. He does not know yet that Elena is now a vampire.

In Growing Pains, Jeremy is understandably upset at the thought of Elena becoming a vampire, and asks her if she's started showing any physical signs of the transition yet. He also fully supports the idea of Bonnie tapping into dark magic to try to bring Elena back from the other side and restore her human self. He is with her when she attempts the dangerous move of crossing over to the other side to try to bring Elena back--he tries to wake her up, when he is finally successful, she informs him that her attempts had failed.

Jeremy tells Elena everything will be alright.

In Memorial, Jeremy and Matt are prepping for the memorial, where Matt asks Jeremy how Elena was coping, he tells him she was doing okay. Matt tells Jeremy that he will do anything to help make the process easier on Elena. Soon, their attention is drawn to April Young, who used to go to school with them, and who's father was Pastor Young. After the memorial, Jeremy is sitting at the Grill with Matt, when newcomer Conner Jordan arrives. Jeremy compliments him on his tattoo, but according to Matt, there was no tattoo to be seen. He and the rest of their friends take part in a small, private memorial for all those they had lost. He lights a lantern for his parents, Anna and Vicky and Alaric.

Conner telling Jeremy that he has the potential to be a member of "The Five"

In The Rager, Jeremy is approached by Connor Jordan at school and speaks to him about the tattoo on his arm, reveals to him that only current hunter's and potential vampire hunters can only see it. Connor then offers to teach Jeremy the ways of hunting vampires. Soon after Jeremy goes to Connor's RV home to give him find clues to find out who are the town's vampire. Jeremy tell Connor to go talk to Meredith Fell. Connor does not realize that Jeremy set him up for a trap.

Connor threatens to kill Jeremy

In The Killer, Jeremy is followed to work by Connor, as Jeremy was placing cups on a shelf Connor puts a gun to his head and takes Jeremy as a hostage. Later Connor plans to use Jeremy as leverage for April and Matt to do what he wants. Later, Jeremy is shown trying to kill Connor multiple times, after Stefan saves Matt and April Connor spots Jeremy and pushes him onto a pressure pad that if he leaves it will blow, in between Elena saving everyone Jeremy is shot in the stomach then is saved by Stefan. At the end of the episode Jeremy gives April his bracelet and when looking at his hand he sees the start of the Hunter's Mark.

Jeremy after killing Chris and activated the Hunter Mark

In We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes, Elena was seeing Connor in her hallucinations and stabs him in the neck, but it was actually Jeremy. She killed him, but he woke up since he was wearing the Gilbert Ring, and after asking Damon what happened, he told him it was a long story. He was later at school with Matt and told him that he was seeing the start of the Hunter Mark, but was interrupted by Shane and April. Later, Bonnie told him that there was a way to stop Elena's hallucinations, and it was by killing a vampire and activating the Hunter Mark. He offered to kill Damon, but he told him they'll get him one. Later, he killed Chris after Caroline agreed to go on a date with Klaus in return of one of his hybrids. Therefore, he activated the mark, and his hallucinations stopped.

Jeremy with Matt

In My Brother's Keeper, Jeremy helps with the preparations for the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant. When Matt can't pick up a keg and Jeremy shows Matt that he can pick up two kegs, much to Matt's surprise. Jeremy explains that ever since he awakened as a Hunter, he's had all this energy all the time. Matt shares his concerns with Jeremy, telling him that he's going to want to kill vampires when he lives with one. Jeremy says that he would never hurt his sister and walks away, stating that he will be fine.

At the Gilbert House, Jeremy experiences a nightmare. He helps Elena put on her necklace but begins choking her with the necklace, after stating he wishes she would stop acting like she's his sister. Blood starts running down Elena's neck and Jeremy wakes up, holding up one hand to see a knife and a stake in the other with the Hunter's mark, a scared and confused look on his face.

The next day, Jeremy gets ready for the event and has told Matt about his nightmare. Matt says that it's the Hunters' mark and it's messing with him and threatens to tell Elena if he doesn't. Jeremy receives a message from Stefan a few seconds later, telling him to meet him in the Lockwood cellar and not to tell anyone.

Jeremy arrives at the cellar and asks Stefan what is he doing here. Stefan asks Jeremy if it's interested in the chance to make Elena human again, with Jeremy replying, "You have no idea." Stefan shows Jeremy a vampire, one that he turned earlier at the hospital. Stefan then cuts Jeremy's wrist and feeds his blood to the vampire. He rips the chains which hold the new vampire away from Jeremy and holds them. Stefan holds out a stake for Jeremy to handle. Jeremy asks what's wrong with Stefan and he threatens Jeremy to kill the vampire or he will let go of the chains. Jeremy kills the vampire, having no choice.

Jeremy in the background

Jeremy watches as his Hunter's Mark grows and Stefan asks him how much did it grow. Jeremy states that he can't trust Stefan and Stefan asks him once again how much did the mark grow. Jeremy says he can't and Stefan says that Jeremy must answer him or he will make him answer. Stefan compels him to tell him what the mark looks like, and Jeremy then stakes Stefan in the stomach. Jeremy remarks that he guesses he can't be compelled anymore. He grabs his things and leaves the cellar.

Jeremy eventually arrives at the pageant and runs into April. April was his date for the pageant, but he didn't arrive and so she danced with Matt. Jeremy tells her that her father, and the Council, was doing the right thing for this town and they all died heroes. Jeremy walks past her, leaving April with a shocked look on her face.

In the Lockwood Mansion, Jeremy pushes one of his stakes into the palm of his hand. Elena enters, having seen him, and asks him where has he been. She catches sight of what Jeremy is doing and asks him about it. Jeremy tells Elena that Connor was right - all he can think about is killing vampires. Elena states that he is nothing like Connor. Jeremy wants to believe that and he knows that he doesn't want to hurt Elena, but everything inside him is telling him to drive a stake through her heart.

Elena takes Jeremy's wrist and proceeds to tell him that she would never do anything to hurt him. Then she smells the blood on his hand and backs away. Veins start appearing and she tells Jeremy to get away from her. Jeremy walks towards Elena, but she turns around quickly and throws him to the ground. Elena pleads for him to wake up and he does, staking Elena in the neck with a hidden arm cuff stake. Just as Jeremy is about to finish her off, Matt enters the room and tells Jeremy that he doesn't want to do it, that it's the Hunters' Mark.

Jeremy hesitates and it looks as if he's still going to stake Elena. Stefan then rushes into the room and holds Jeremy against the wall. At Stefan's orders, Matt takes Jeremy out of the room.

Jeremy Gilbert

At the Gilbert household, Jeremy is seen packing a bag. Matt enters and asks him what is he doing. Jeremy tells him that he can't keep living here if he wants to kill his sister. That's when Matt tells him that Elena knows it and that's why she asked him to move in with Jeremy. Jeremy is surprised by this news and Matt assures him that he's not one of them, that he will keep an eye on Jeremy on all the Hunter business.

In O Come, All Ye Faithful, Elena and Damon visit the Gilbert Summer House, where Jeremy is staying. He is cutting wood when they first arrive, and becomes very tense and hostile on noticing them. Bonnie comes out and asks him whether he trusts her, to which he replies he does and hands her the chopping ax he was holding.

Elena defends herself from Jeremy.

When Elena tries to enter the house she is locked out (due to being uninvited), and Jeremy reluctantly lets her in, only to try and stake her a second later. He is stopped and Shane explains his ideas on giving Jeremy a choice between killing a vampire, and remember who they really are, therefore trying to get him to recognize Elena as his sister. The method is unsuccessful, with Jeremy delivering a dark speech on why he wants to kill Elena before asking; "Did it work?" when he comes out of the trance.

Jeremy talks to Damon about his problem, before explaining how they are going to fix it; using Bonnie this time to repair his relationship with Elena by using her as the link. It is successful, as demonstrated by the way he hands Damon his stake and hugs Elena. He is later seen playing a game with his sister and Bonnie. Elena remarks to Damon about how happy she is to be able to treat him as her brother again.

Jeremy in training

In After School Special, Jeremy was still at the lake house being trained by Damon. He spent his time jogging around the lake and sparring with Matt, though they'd lose focus and snack on junk food a lot, ordering pizza from a nearby town, much to Damon's annoyance. Jeremy knew that Matt wasn't much of a challenge but when he brought this up, he was quickly subdued by Damon, showing him he still had a lot to learn. Klaus arrived, irritated by Jeremy's lack of vampire kills but Damon tried to explain that Jeremy wasn't ready yet to go take on vampires but Klaus persisted, telling Damon his plan to turn some of the locals into vampires for Jeremy to bring down. Meanwhile, Jeremy and Matt were met with the pizza delivery girl who said her car had broken down. Jeremy politely invited her to come inside but soon realized it was a mistake. The girl attacked Matt, showing she had become a vampire and Jeremy struggled to fight her, staking her and saving Matt, the Hunter's Mark spreading a bit up his wrist. Later, Damon brought Jeremy and Matt to the local bar where bodies were spread all around Klaus, who sat having a drink. He explained that all of the people in the bar were in transition and that Jeremy was to kill them all.

In Catch Me If You Can, Jeremy refused to listen to Klaus but when he threatened Matt, Jeremy and Matt made a run back to the cabin, the newly turned vampires in hot pursuit. They managed to get to the security of the house thanks to a visit from Elena and as the sun rose, the new vampires went to go find shade. Damon brought Jeremy back to the bar, knowing that that is where the vampires would sink back to for cover from the sun. When they got there, Jeremy was well armed with a crossbow, ready to take on the vampires, only to find that all of the vampires had been massacred.

Jeremy's hunter instincts almost hurt Elena

Kol revealed himself and took credit for the slaughter, trying to appease to the friendship he once shared with Jeremy to get him to quit trying to grow his mark. Jeremy refused Kol's offer so the Original tried to tear off Jeremy's arm, not wanting to kill him due to fear of the Hunter's Curse. Damon intercepted, giving Jeremy time to escape though Damon was taken captive. Jeremy and Matt went home and when Damon returned, Jeremy found that Damon had been compelled to kill him by Kol. Jeremy ran, heading into the tunnels beneath the town but Damon caught up, managing to bite Jeremy in the arm. He begged Jeremy to shoot him the heart to end this but Jeremy took an alternative, shooting Damon in the head which bought him some time. He ran through the woods but the blood from the bite Damon had given him made him easy to track. Again, Damon caught up, telling him to kill him which Jeremy looked to consider until Stefan arrived and snapped Damon's neck, ending the struggle for the moment. Later, Jeremy was visited by Klaus, who wanted to take him somewhere safe since Kol was still trying to kill Jeremy but Jeremy chose to stay home. After telling Elena he didn't want to have to murder a whole group of vampires one by one, Elena came up with the plan that Jeremy should try to kill Kol so that he could grow the rest of his mark all at once.

In A View to a Kill, Jeremy and Elena came up with their plan to kill Kol. They wanted to lure him into a trap and then have Bonnie hold him down with her magic while Jeremy would deal the finishing blow. However, their meeting with Kol came earlier than expected when Kol decided he wanted to speak at their house. Jeremy would only invite him in if he allowed him to leave which he did. Unknown to Kol, Jeremy went to go get Bonnie so they could enact their plan. However, Bonnie parents weren't allowing her to leave, wanting to talk about her dealings with Shane. Unable to be convinced by Jeremy, he went back home, hoping Bonnie would be close behind. Kol returned, though, chasing the Gilbert siblings through their home and standing up to their resistance of stakes and wooden bullets. The Original overpowered Jeremy, taking him down into the kitchen and planning on chopping his arm off with a cleaver. Not knowing which arm it was on, though, Kol decided to just chop off both arms. Elena interfered, shoving Kol against the counter while Jeremy sprayed Kol with the vervain-laced water from the sink. This gave him enough time use the White Oak Stake on Kol, stabbing him and setting him ablaze. Kol tumbled through the house, burning, until he dropped dead. The problem wasn't over, however, as Klaus was standing in the doorway and had seen Jeremy kill Kol.

The Hunter's Mark completed.

He threatened to burn down the house and then kill Jeremy and Elena but Bonnie came and trapped Klaus with a barrier in the living room. Jeremy took the indestructible stake from Kol's charred body and left with Elena. An hour later, the Hunter's Mark hadn't grown and Jeremy began to doubt that it had worked but Bonnie assured him it would, reminding him that Finn's bloodline took a little while to die off. A minute later, Jeremy let out a scream as the Hunter's Mark spread up his arm and chest, completing itself, and now becoming visible to everyone.

In Into the Wild, Jeremy along with Bonnie, Elena, Damon, Stefan, Rebekah and Shane arrive at the island where Silas is. He was attacked by a native, but saved by Elena, and the attacker was killed by another being (Katherine). Jeremy was captured by Massak and along with Bonnie, were forced by Atticus to enter the tomb.

In Down the Rabbit Hole, Jeremy, Bonnie and Shane proceed to go down the magical well leading to Silas' tomb. Bonnie performs a spell and makes Jeremy's hunter mark disappear, and so does Vaughn's. Bonnie and Jeremy enter the tomb without Shane, leaving him stuck down the well. They proceed into the catacombs. Bonnie sees Sheila Bennett and tells her that the two are closer than ever to bring her back. Jeremy helps Bonnie realize that she is just a hallucination caused by Silas who is trying to control her. Jeremy manages to convince Bonnie and they continue through the catacombs. The two finally arrive in Silas' tomb.

Jeremy fights Vaughn

Jeremy tries to remove The Cure from Silas' fossilized hand without any luck. Bonnie tells him that they have to feed him their blood in order for Silas to let go of the Cure. Vaughn surprises Jeremy and stabs Bonnie. Jeremy goes to help Bonnie while Vaughn starts feeding his blood to Silas. Jeremy engages in a fight against Vaughn. The two hunters battle it out brutally, but Vaughn manages to overcome Jeremy and throws him to the ground. Jeremy pleads with him not to wake Silas, and attacks again, but Vaughn defeats Gilbert and almost breaks his arm. He then prepares to kill Jeremy, claiming it is nothing personal.

Killed by Silas

Katherine, disguising as Elena, pushes Vaughn who hits his head. "Elena" asks if Jeremy is ok and tells him that they need to get the cure fast. Jeremy insists that she should feed Bonnie her blood but Katherine grows impatient and reveals herself. She slits Jeremy's wrist and pushes him onto Silas. Seeing that this will take a long time, Katherine rips open his neck. Silas starts regaining movement while he starts to viciously suck Jeremy's blood. Silas lets go of the Cure. Katherine snatches it and leaving Jeremy's fate on Silas' hand. Silas drains Jeremy of blood and snaps his neck, killing him. Jeremy falls on the ground while Bonnie is watching in shock.

In Stand By Me, Elena discovers his body and believes he will come back to life as he was wearing his Gilbert Ring. However, Stefan tells Damon that because Jeremy was one of The Five he was supernatural meaning the ring will no longer work. Stefan and Elena bring his body home to Mystic Falls, shocking Caroline. Elena holds onto the hope that Jeremy will awaken but Stefan and Caroline soon realize the body is starting to decay and contact Meredith Fell. She asks Elena to release the body, which angers Elena. Meanwhile, Shane and Bonnie are still on the island and he convinces her that Silas can bring back every supernatural being that has died. Damon eventually finds Bonnie and they return to Mystic Falls.

Jeremy's final scene.

Bonnie later informs her friends that another sacrifice is needed to bring back the dead, which Caroline disapproves of. Elena receives a phone call from April Young who is looking for Jeremy. Elena tells her that Jeremy is dead, and when she goes upstairs to check on him, she realizes he has been dead the whole time. She breaks down and asks Damon to bring the body downstairs before deciding to set the house on fire. Stefan tells Damon to intervene and the latter uses the sire bond to make Elena switch off her humanity. Devastated that she's lost everything, she torches the house, along with Jeremy's body. Together with Damon and Stefan, she walks away.

In Pictures of You, Silas takes on the form of Jeremy and appears to Bonnie. At first in her dreams when she is visiting his grave and later at Prom, where he dances with her and tries to convince her of doing the spell to drop the veil to The Other Side. She then realizes that he is, in fact, Silas and leaves. They meet again later and Bonnie tells him to get out of her head and leave her alone. She briefly loses control of her magic again, but then succeeds in making him go away.

Jeremy faces off against Kol.

In The Walking Dead, he appeared as a ghost. Kol is beating Elena mercilessly, and is about to kill her when Jeremy appears, returned from the dead. He fires a stake at Kol with his trusty crossbow, but the Original catches it and faces him, smiling. They square off for another fight, with Kol taunting Jeremy, but Gilbert replies just saying he's killed him once, he can do it again (basically). Stefan arrives just as Kol begins to start the fight, and snaps his neck. Jeremy took one dismissive look at his nemesis and then ran to hug Elena, who was beside herself with joy. He later accompanied her to see Bonnie, who was equally thrilled by his return, and Damon suggested Jeremy and Elena say goodbye before the veil is put back up.

Jeremy with Alaric and Elena.

In Graduation, Jeremy is enjoying a moment with Elena and Alaric as they eat burgers. They joke about various things, including the fact that Jeremy is homeless, since Elena burned down the Gilbert House. Elena is about to cry with happiness, but Jeremy makes her promise that she won't, as they all need one day of 'non-crying'.

Later, Jeremy goes to see Bonnie before she closes the veil. She is scared, as she is dead and will so disappear, but Jeremy mistakes this for her becoming sad over his impending disappearance. He insists he is ready (and sounds cool while doing it) and she drops the veil after they share a kiss. Jeremy staggers back, coughing and then realizes he is still here, in reality. He is initially confused, but hugs Bonnie, only to find he still has all his powers from before, but most importantly, he finds that out because he can see Bonnie, who is now a ghost. She makes him promise he will lie about her death, which he does reluctantly. As for himself, Jeremy Gilbert has returned to the land of the living.

Jeremy and Bonnie.

Since being resurrected three months earlier, Jeremy has been keeping Bonnie's death a secret, pretending to be her by forwarding e-mails, postcards and texts to Elena, Caroline and her father, and doing his best to return to his daily life. Elena goes off to college, leaving Jeremy under Damon's care, but things go awry when someone provokes him at school and a fight breaks out, resulting in him getting expelled. Damon fixes the situation by compelling the principal to give Jeremy a suspension instead.

Jeremy is badly injured in the accident which Katherine caused.

Supposedly, when "Stefan" returns back to Mystic Falls, Jeremy immediately gets a bad feeling about him and he and Bonnie realize that he is the immortal Silas and he wants a newly-human Katherine. Upon Damon's orders, Jeremy takes Katherine and drives her as far as he can away from Silas, but Damon later convinces Jeremy to take the former vampire back to town. Before this happens, Katherine causes an accident and flees the scene, leaving a badly-injured Jeremy to die. Damon finds him and gives Jeremy some of his blood, which successfully brings him back.

Jeremy and Bonnie talk about her father's death.

In True Lies, Bonnie is recollecting to Jeremy how she saw her father being murdered by Silas and tells him that the whole town is on the lookoout for Katherine since they are under Silas' mind control. Jeremy and Matt manage to find Katherine before a woman under the influence of Silas can get her to the immortal and they arrive at a gas station where she tries to escape, but Jeremy stops her. They make camp in the woods where Jeremy and Matt keep a close eye on Katherine.

Jeremy is wounded fighting Silas

At night, Silas tracked down the trio and after Matt is briefly killed by him, Jeremy confronted the immortal. He reminded Silas that his psychic abilities would not work on Jeremy thanks to the power that Jeremy had been given as a member of The Five. Silas, unpeturbed by that, decided to just try to kill the vampire hunter instead but Jeremy reminded him that Silas was slower and weaker than a vampire while Jeremy was a supernatural hunter with enhanced physique. Jeremy picked up a hatchet and engaged in a fight with Silas and though Jeremy seemed to have the upperhand, grappling Silas from behind, the immortal skewered himself with a branch, stabbing Jeremy through his own body. Silas then picked up the hatchet and prepared to kill Jeremy for a second time but Katherine arrived just in time to save Jeremy and shoot Silas, giving them enough time to make off with Matt's body and escape. Later, Jeremy saw Bonnie and went after her, where she confided in him that she wasn't ready to be dead. Jeremy assured Bonnie that he was going to be there for her and promised to keep the cover story going.

In For Whom the Bell Tolls, Jeremy doing shirtless push-ups on a rug at Salvatore Mansion. Bonnie likes to watch, too. "You working out is my main source of entertainment," she told him. He's just working off some extra adrenaline. "And every girl on the other side thanks you for it." Matt phoned Jeremy to come to his place. Matt who'd tried contacting Bonnie for help and she has not returned his calls to help figure out what Nadia has done but Jeremy cannot help.

Jeremy did his best to break Bonnie's death to Damon gently. "Don't you say it, Jeremy. Don't you dare," Damon pleaded. Damon didn't want to hear Jeremy say she was dead. "Bonnie's dead." Damon was pissed. When he walked toward Jeremy, it looked like he was going to punch Jeremy, instead, he embraced him.

Jeremy and the others at Bonnie's memorial.

Jeremy, Caroline, Damon, Matt, and Elena had a service for Bonnie in the woods. They all placed objects on her makeshift grave: Jeremy had a photo. Caroline had a pompom. Matt had the whistle. Elena had feathers. Damon had the grimoire. Bonnie was there. She said they needed this, and so did she. Jeremy picked up the bell. She told Jeremy to tell them that even though they couldn't see her, she's been there the whole time. She's watched them have the summer of their lives, and she's not going anywhere. Jeremy continued to relay her messages as she stood next to Elena, Matt, and Caroline and said goodbye. "This is good. This is all I wanted. I'll be okay. We'll all be okay," Bonnie told Jeremy. And they held hands.

In Monster's Ball, at the Salvatore House, Damon is filling Jeremy in on a plan he has after learning of Bonnie's death. As Damon is discussing Bonnie, Jeremy tells him that Bonnie is sitting on the other sofa, who waves to the oblivious Damon. Damon tells him that since Bonnie died and he knows of another supernatural being who wants to die, nature needs a balance. Jeremy is clearly confused and demands to know what he is talking about although when Damon says "something Elena doesn't need to know", he immediately knows his plan and is outraged he wants to work with Silas.

Bonnie and Jeremy

Damon explains that for Silas to die, he has to be mortal and if he's mortal, he would be a witch capable of being stuck on the Other Side. Jeremy retorts that his last attempt at bringing down the Other Side failed before turning to listen to what Bonnie has to say before relaying to Damon that Bonnie thinks Silas may want to destroy the Other Side completely. After the scenes switch between Damon and Silas to the Salvatore House, Damon quizzes would it be possible for Silas to cast a spell which when he dies, would revive Bonnie, Bonnie says it would be and when questioned if she would be in, Jeremy lies and says she would, despite her saying she wants no part in the plan.

Later on, Bonnie is berating Jeremy over his decision to lie and tells him to call Damon back. Jeremy tells her that its okay for him to play Witch translator for her, but when it's something he wants for her, although Bonnie interrupts him saying Silas is too dangerous. She argues that she brought him back because Elena needed him and that if they abuse magic there is a price. He states that there is nothing worse than their current situation, and asks her to let Damon try and bring her back.

Jeremy with his crossbow

In Handle with Care, Jeremy first enters the Salvatore living area aiming a crossbow at Silas. Silas knows he is behind him without turning around and taunts him over his relationship with Bonnie, Elena calms them saying they both want the same thing; Silas dead, and Bonnie alive before Damon tells him to put down the crossbow. Jeremy refuses to believe that Silas would bring Bonnie back "out of the goodness of his heart" and lifts the crossbow back up to Silas after he says he is "kinda a monster." Silas says he is tired of being ganged up on and ignites flames on his fingers to warn Elena and Jeremy off. When they start to head out of the Boarding House, Silas tells Jeremy to grab a couple of crossbars from the garage.

"You're a dick."

Sometime later, Jeremy is in the car with Silas and Damon when Elena calls and tells them she is going to find Stefan. Silas cracks a joke regarding the murder of the Mayor and Jeremy tells him he is a dick, clearly unamused. Once they reach the warehouse, Jeremy is confused about the Anchor, where it would be located and what it looks like. When Jeremy is searching around crates in the warehouse, Bonnie appears asking what the crate did to him. She tells him she didn't want to miss the excitement as it's not every day a girl comes back to life and he warns her against jinxing it. Bonnie says she's being realistic, still thoughtful over the consequences of her death bringing Jeremy back to life, and Jeremy tells her to have faith. Jeremy is touched when she says she would gladly stand there a hundred times over in order to have him alive, he touches her face softly and says before the end of the day, she'll be able to feel his touch.

Angry at Damon for scrapping the plan to save Bonnie

The scene switches between Damon, finding out that Elena is in danger from Qetsiyah, and him having told Jeremy that they have to kill Silas as soon as possible in order to save her. Jeremy refuses, saying he is the only hope to bring Bonnie back to life. Damon, however, says the plan is off, not risking Elena's life saying if Elena dies then there would be another person less at Bonnie's welcome home party, leaving Jeremy conflicted and devastated. Bonnie soon appears, telling him it's okay, that she would gladly stay dead if it would mean her friends live. Jeremy says they were so close before Bonnie smiles and tells him to go kill Silas.

Damon is on the phone with Qetsiyah who gives him clues about why the Travelers ambushed them while trying to kill Silas, and hints what the Anchor is and its location.

Damon pieces things together and calls her a genius, confusing Jeremy. Towards the end of the episode, Damon and Jeremy are sat in the Salvatore Living room, drinking, when Stefan and Elena walk through the front door. Damon is surprised Stefan is in the same house as them tonight before he and Jeremy raise a glass to "victory in a day otherwise marred by failure." Elena glares at Jeremy due to him drinking alcohol and Jeremy says they failed to get Bonnie back, so he gets a free pass. Bonnie appears sadly and tells Jeremy to tell Elena that it's for the best, Jeremy denies this immediate, that it's not okay. Elena and Damon realize Bonnie is there and Elena says they will continue trying.

In Death and the Maiden, Jeremy is first seen in the Salvatore Boarding House, he approaches Bonnie who is standing before a window. Jeremy tells her he thinks it'll be harder than expected to keep the human Amara alive. Bonnie turns and begins to question what would happen if Amara died, if the Other Side was destroyed and whether it would hurt. Jeremy wants to tell her three things however she cuts him off, not wanting to hear a "goodbye speech" and he denies this, gratefully thanking her for giving up her life for him and that he knows she will always be there one way or another. As Jeremy is about to tell her another one of the "three things", but she stops him expressing there will be another time for him to tell her the things he wants to say.

Jeremy, Amara and Bonnie

Later on, Jeremy and Bonnie enter the Salvatore Basement and approach the tied up Amara, Jeremy is carrying a plate of food, asking rhetorically how the "mental patient" is doing. Bonnie thinks that being alone for so many years pushed her over the edge. He steps up to Amara who fearfully tries to back away, he puts the plate on the floor and tells her it's only a dinner. Amara says she knows him, he is the Hunter that Silas killed, confused how he is alive before demanding to know if Bonnie was the witch who brought him back. Bonnie is shocked that Amara can actually see her, Amara pointing out she has eyes, although doesn't know the difference between the living and the dead anymore. Jeremy says it's weird, but Bonnie has a plan.

Jeremy is talking with Elena and Damon, explaining to them that Amara is able to touch and speak to both the living and the dead. He says that they could make Bonnie the Anchor, and Elena agrees, they only need somebody to cast the spell. Sometime later, in the living room, Bonnie approaches Jeremy from behind, who is waiting for Qetsiyah to complete the spell to switch the Anchor. Bonnie sadly tells him that Amara is dying and that they don't have much time. Qetsiyah completes the spell, and as Bonnie is asking Jeremy to tell her the third thing, they admit they love each other and Jeremy isn't ready to let her go yet. He lifts his hand to her face and they are both stunned that they can feel each other.

Bonnie and Jeremy are stood in front of the fireplace afterward, and Bonnie tells him she missed being warm, that she was never warm on the Other Side. They take each other's hand as Jeremy says he missed holding her hand. He says he's never going to let her go again before they kiss.

In Dead Man on Campus, at Whitmore College, Bonnie and Jeremy are situated on a bench kissing, when Jeremy breaks apart, mocking Bonnie's excuse to Elena that she was "registering for classes" to instead come and see him. Bonnie says she doesn't want to rub it in Elena's face in their first day in the dorm room and Jeremy then offers to take her back to his place. Bonnie laughs that it is Damon's house and sarcastically adds they should just have sex in the bathtub and let Katherine watch. They kiss and Jeremy compliments her new hairstyle, and she turns away smiling, however, stops when she sees an elderly woman staring directly at her from ahead. Jeremy asks if she's okay and Bonnie quickly excuses herself to go to class, saying she will meet him later on.

Jeremy approaches Bonnie at her welcome back party in the dorm and touches her shoulder, bringing her back to the living after she communicates with the elderly woman staring at her beforehand. He says he had to wrestle Elena for two shots before asking if she's okay, noticing her blank stare. He tells her she needs to come with him, and that they are going to "register for classes."

In a hotel room sometime later, Bonnie is trying to light candles unsuccessfully with a lighter when Jeremy appears and tells her to step away from the candles. He grabs her and kisses her, lifting her onto the bed. Bonnie rips off his shirt but stops in horror, seeing Jesse standing behind them. She stops Jeremy, saying that she thinks Jesse is dead, Jeremy doesn't see him and is confused but runs to her as she collapses in pain when Jesse passes through her. Once the pain stops, Jeremy demands to know what that was and how often it happens and she reveals she is the Anchor, every supernatural being passes through her although doesn't respond how often. He asks why she didn't tell him, but she says they knew there would be consequences, but they are here now touching each other, before telling him to kiss her. She says any consequence is worth it, before they have sex for the first time.

Bonnie asking Jeremy to the Bitter Ball

In Total Eclipse of the Heart, Jeremy is with Bonnie at the Whitmore College dorms, after Bonnie convinced him to attend the "Bitter Ball", although he mocks the idea of not being able to attend the dance together because he is her date. He suggests they get a hotel room but Bonnie mutters Caroline would kill her, Jeremy says they're happy and should be able to act like it before they kiss. Damon then appears telling them he's there to kidnap Jeremy, although they don't believe him at first until he refuses to let Jeremy past. Bonnie demands Damon let him go but Damon mocks her lack of magic ability before continuing that he needs a witch, and is kidnapping Jeremy for leverage for Bonnie to find one.

Jeremy rebuffs immediately, sure that Damon wouldn't hurt him because of Elena, however, Damon laughs, saying he's "been there, done that, wrote the country song" in regards to Elena hurting him before Enzo walks in asking if Bonnie has agreed to the plan. She demands to know who he is and he replies he's the one who gets people to do things they don't want to do before grabbing Jeremy and squeezing his head until Bonnie relents. Later on, Bonnie is trying to find a witch and informing Stefan of Jeremy's situation, showing him an image of a tied up Jeremy from Enzo and that if she doesn't find a witch to help by midnight, Jeremy is dead.

Enzo almost kills Jeremy

Enzo has Jeremy stashed at Whitmore House, tied up and stares into the fire with a poker in his hand, he taunts Jeremy that Bonnie hasn't come through yet and Jeremy retorts killing him wouldn't be the best thing to inspire her. As Enzo approaches, Jeremy says he doesn't have to do whatever he's planning but Enzo continues, threatening "if there's no follow through, nobody takes you seriously" before wrapping a plastic bag around Jeremy's head, Jeremy struggled for a moment before he stills. Stefan and "Elena" show up just in time and Stefan begins to fight with Enzo while Katherine, sickened at the thought, attempts to give Jeremy CPR. When he doesn't wake, she begins to hit him on his chest, continuously harder before he gasps a breath and wakes.

In Gone Girl, he and Bonnie are talking to Caroline and the others on how to get Katherine to come them so they can kill her. He is with Bonnie and they go to Liv to see if she can help them if finding Katherine. Liv flirts with Jeremy and he doesn't seem bothered by it, while Bonnie is. He is later with the group when Katherine arrives. Katherine goes to him and tells him she enjoyed having a sibling, but he could be a pain.

In While You Were Sleeping, he is seen feeding Damon blood while he is locked up and tells him he's lucky that he's even doing it since he let Enzo almost kill him. He later sees that Damon has Matt, and lets Damon go after he threatens Matt's life if they don't let him go to Elena.

In Rescue Me, Liv Parker cruises up to the bar, orders a bottle of gin, and then joins Jeremy at a secluded table. She asks for his help as he is a Hunter and cannot be mind controlled by a Traveler. He asks about the Travelers and listens to what she has to say. He is also told by Liv that they need to find out why the Travelers need Petrova and Salvatore doppelganger blood. After Liv leaves, he calls Bonnie and asks her where Elena is.

At the school, he talks to Elena and tells they should trust Liv, and he goes with Liv to meet up with Luke. He says they'll help with each other and that his friends, Matt and Tyler, are part of the deal regardless.

Much later, he gets his bags, telling Elena and Damon that he's staying with Matt and Tyler. He tells them the decision is best for him and everyone, hugging Elena before leaving.

In Resident Evil, Jeremy is at the Lockwood Mansion with Liv, Matt and Tyler. Bonnie Bennett arrives and finds out Jeremy worked with Liv behind her back. After Bonnie leaves, Jeremy tells Liv he doesn't want to keep secrets any longer.

In Man on Fire, Jeremy and Matt Donovan are searching for Tyler and The Travelers' Knife. Then they are approached and threatened by Damon when he asks where the knife is. The two tell him they can't find it since Tyler put it in the piano last and they haven't heard from Tyler since.

Later Jeremy is talking with Bonnie Bennett and he wants her to tell him what's on her mind, but before she does Stefan calls her. While Jeremy asks who Bonnie is seeing and communicating with, she lies about it being Enzo.

In What Lies Beneath, Jeremy and Bonnie are making out in the dorm and suddenly he is worried about Bonnie's Anchor situation. He, Tyler and Matt want to find out about where Markos is and decide to get the traveler currently inside Tyler out so they can speak with him. Matt and Jeremy begin torturing Julian and tells them where to find the bodies of the travelers.

He and Bonnie go to the cave where the lifeless bodies of the travelers are. They eventually find Julian's real body, but are interrupted by Maria, who begins to choke Jeremy with a spell and is released once they are gone.

In Promised Land, he and Matt are enlisted by Damon to bring all the Travelers' bodies to the Salvatores' house.

He is later seen picking Damon up when the spell for reversing witch magic starts. Matt and Jeremy decide to go back to Mystic Falls while the others try to find somewhere far away from the reversal spell.

In Home, Jeremy was able to use his Hunter of the Five attributes in order to map out how far the Traveler's Purification Spell extended beyond Mystic Falls. Later, he and Matt find the cables underground and cut the wires to start a gas-leak for Damon to kill The Travelers once and for all. After the Levi does a spell to overwhelm Bonnie with the dead souls of the Travelers, Bonnie realizes that the oblivion will suck her, too and calls Jeremy to tell him that she's going to die. Jeremy tells her not to hang up in vain and screams her name, but the oblivion takes Bonnie and Damon in an emotional season-finale.

In I'll Remember, 4 months after Damon and Bonnie's death, the traveler's anti-magic spell still remains and is taking Bonnie's death in his own way. He lives with Matt in the Lockwood Mansion and is clearly still grieving but is hiding it by bringing home random girls, drinking and playing video games. On the phone to Elena, he tells him to do something productive, but he's being too stubborn and Matt decides to have words with his behavior, but again he doesn't care what people have to say to him. He goes to the place where Bonnie's original funeral/memorial was and starts to drink his sorrows while crying.

In Yellow Ledbetter, it is revealed that Monique spent the night with Jeremy, much to Matt's disappointment. Elena tells Jeremy that she wants to forget Damon because it makes her dangerous, but he disapproves of her decision. Later on, Jeremy lied to Matt that Sarah was gone and later told Jeremy that he shouldn't see Sarah again because she's trouble after Tripp told him that her car wasn't hers. She tells Matt and Jeremy that she stole it from her perverted boss and is finding her father in Mystic Falls. Jeremy offers her to stay until she finds him.

In Welcome to Paradise, Sarah is busy raving about Salvatore Mansion's "dirty" four-head shower. Get in line, lady. We're reminded she's looking for her dad and learn that her dead mother lived in Mystic Falls for years before she had her. Jeremy drinks bourbon, as one does in that house, and is otherwise worthless. Jeremy and Sarah go to the swimming hole and end up kissing in the water. Elena swims up beside them and realizes that Jeremy is kissing the girl that she nearly killed. Elena and Jeremy fight over his recklessness. Later, the girl that Caroline compelled to go and get ice returns without ice. Jeremy realizes that when you go inside of Mystic Falls, compulsion goes away. Caroline and Jeremy discover that Sarah knows that Elena tried to kill her. Jeremy returns to Salvatore Mansion and finds that Sarah trashed it before she bolted.

In Black Hole Sun, Jeremy and Alaric are at Whitmore Hospital. Alaric asks Jo for her help in helping Jeremy with his hangover. Sometime later Jeremy is training/fist fighting with Alaric. In the middle of their training, they start to yell at each other. Alaric wants to help him. Through coping with Bonnie's death. But Jeremy doesn't want his help. Alaric tells him he has years of resentment. And Alaric tells him that he needs to find another way to get through Bonnie's death. And he will be there and help him.

In The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get, Monique tries to talk to Jeremy about her relatives. And Zach Salvatore. Jeremy doesn't want to talk about it. And leaves in a rush. Sometime later Jeremy goes to Elena's dorm. Where he finds Damon there waiting for Elena. Jeremy asks about Bonnie and why she didn't come back with him. Damon tells him she wasn't where he was. Later at the Salvatore Boarding House Jeremy loses his temper. Telling Matt and Monique he tried canceling Bonnie's cell phone. But he can't remember her pin. Matt and Monique calm him down.

In I Alone, Jeremy and Elena are jogging. They stop to talk about Bonnie. Elena tells him Bonnie is alive and Damon is doing what he can to get her back. As they continue talking Jeremy gets upset and leaves. Later at the Salvatore Boarding House. Jeremy gets a phone call from Elena telling him that Bonnie isn't back. And something went wrong. Jeremy in his anger hangs up the phone. And Matt tells him if he wants to deal with is anger. He needs Jeremy's help on killing Enzo.

In Christmas Through Your Eyes, Damon calls Matt for help finding Kai, but he and Jeremy are too preoccupied arming up to hunt Enzo. Enzo comes to meet Matt in Tripp's old vampire torture cabin, expecting information on Monique (formerly known as Sarah). Enzo is suspicious, and easily stops Jeremy's crossbow arrow when it comes at his back. But then Matt stabs Enzo in the neck when he turns, Jeremy fires again and Matt punches Enzo and floors him. Matt isn't satisfied with just killing Enzo, he wants to make him suffer. Jeremy warns him that the "us versus them" mentality is liable to get him killed.

In Woke Up With a Monster, Jeremy is making coffee shirtless when Stefan enters saying that he didn't want to see his body, the first thing in the morning. Jeremy claims that he forgot that he lived there and walks off with a towel around his waist. Later, Damon is trying to get Elena back when he hits a snag. Damon phones Alaric for help as he needs another witch. Jo volunteers. Jeremy says that he will help with a crossbow in his hands. At the high school, things go wrong and Jo is crawling on the floor. Kai comes up from behind and lifts her up. Jeremy, from behind, shoots him in the shoulder and Alaric injects him with a knock out drug and he collapses to the floor.

In The Day I Tried To Live, Jeremy is weight lifting. Elena drives her car in front of the garage. She carries balloons and other birthday supplies out of her car. Later, Jeremy shows up at the Salvatore Mansion and demands to know what is going on as Kai is in the room. Kai and Jeremy and the others work together to get Bonnie out of the Prison World. When Kai casts the spell, they astral project into the prison world. They see Bonnie drinking. Damon figures out that Bonnie is going to kill herself. Suddenly they are back in the real world. Kai couldn't take the strain. Jeremy offers to go alone. Kai starts the spell and Jeremy is back but it doesn't last long as Kai gets stabbed by Liv. Jeremy tries to stop her but he gets flung across the room, knocking him out. Kai and Liv have a magical fight. Kai is about to kill her but he can't. Liv uses his hesitation and stabs him. Jeremy wakes up and launches a knife at Liv's arm and drags Kai into another room, while forcing him to start up the spell again. Jeremy follows Bonnie into the garage where she turns on Damon's car and closes the door, waiting for the fumes to kick in. Jeremy is only able to watch as Bonnie records a goodbye message, explaining that she can't take the solitude anymore. She tells Jeremy to live the life he wants and stay strong. Bonnie remembers her Grams told her the same thing. She tries to get up to turn the car off, but the fumes are too strong. Jeremy pounds on the garage door opener and is finally able to open it. Back in reality, Elena tells Jeremy that it's ok if he wants to move on. Jeremy uses this and fills out an application to an art school away from Mystic Falls.

In Stay, at the Grill, Alaric and Matt toast Jeremy on his last day in town. Damon and Elena bring Jeremy the good news that he "graduated," although Elena 'fesses up to the compulsion. Damon even got him a going away joint. Jeremy steps out back to enjoy Damon's good-bye present, but Elena busts him. Alaric had to leave because he worried someone might recognize him when he's supposed to be dead. Elena has a change of heart and borrows Jeremy's lighter. Elena gets a call from Sheriff Forbes and has to leave. Enzo shows up to lurk by Jeremy. Enzo calls Matt to demand he bring Sarah to a tunnel. When Matt resists, Enzo reveals that he's using Jeremy as leverage; he has Jeremy pinned to the ground with his boot over his face. Later, Elena finds battered Jeremy back at the Salvatore house. After checking that he's OK, she tells him about Liz's questions and asks about the message from their mom. Jeremy remembers his mom caught him smoking pot in his room that night and put on a big show of getting mad and calling the sheriff. Elena gets the update from Damon but urges Jeremy to go on with his plans to leave town. Alaric offers to take him to the airport. Alaric drives Jeremy to the "airport," which turns out to be a bus stop. He hands over Jeremy's bag of vampire-killing tools and gives Jeremy leads on "animal attacks" near Santa Fe. Jeremy is leaving to be a vampire hunter and they're in on hiding that fact together. Alaric promises to send him leads and let him know if Bonnie ever comes back.

Jeremy sees Elena for the last time.

In I'm Thinking Of You All The While, Jeremy comes back to town after Alaric informs him about Elena's condition. He apologizes to Alaric for missing his wedding, and then walks up to Elena, takes her hand, and prepares to say goodbye. Jeremy tells Elena that he wants her to know that he spent his life doing what he felt was right and that he was happy, she nods and they hug.

In I Was Feeling Epic, in a flash forward, Jeremy is seen as a teacher at the Salvatore Boarding School for the young & gifted, and is handed a crossbow by Caroline, and he proceeds to instruct the children he has.

Throughout Legacies Series

Season One

In We're Being Punked, Pedro, Jeremy is now a well seasoned Hunter, and has a serious personality. He was able to easily track down Landon and Rafael per Alaric's wishes. As Landon did not warn Rafael of the warning Jeremy left them, they were captured by a werewolf hunter after being tranquillized. Upon Landon and Rafael waking up chained, Jeremy assists them and had already killed the werewolf hunter. He helps them bury the body, and returns them to the Salvatore school.

Jeremy showing off his enhanced strength.

Jeremy was deeply affected by the loss of his parents, and he originally dealt with this pain and trauma through drinking and drugs, relying on them and his love for Vicki to keep him happy. Once Vicki was staked to death by Stefan, Elena had Damon compel his memories regarding Vicki's death so he wouldn't be burdened with the pain of losing another loved one so soon after his parents' death. This drastically changed Jeremy's personality after he stopped using drugs and became more focused on his school work. Damon explained this change as being a side effect of him taking away his suffering, though Jeremy later revealed that while he lost the actual memories of the event, he could still tell something was wrong because he felt empty. Thanks to his ancestor Johnathan Gilbert's journals, Jeremy grew very interested in local vampire legends, befriending Anna, who also seemed to share his passion. He gradually learned that she herself was a vampire and became obsessed with wanting her to turn him into one. However, his love for Vicki was still his primary focus as he thought he could live with her forever. Later, he fell in love with Anna and was shattered yet again by grief when his Uncle John killed her.

After discovering the existence of vampires, Jeremy became more involved in his sister's and the Salvatore's world. He would help them in their efforts against Katherine, always looking out for his friends, showing a vast and sudden maturity that Bonnie Bennett took notice of and grew attracted to. He started a relationship with Bonnie, citing that he wasn't a little boy anymore. His life was thrown into turmoil yet again by personal loss at the deaths of his Uncle John and Aunt Jenna before he, himself, was accidentally killed, only being brought back by Bonnie's magic. The consequences of his resurrection, however, were far from pleasant. He was able to see ghosts of his dead girlfriends, Vicki and Anna, who he grew haunted by. Becoming secretive and turning to drugs yet again, Jeremy found himself confused on what to do.

When the ghosts were all sent away, Jeremy proved that he had grown quite accustomed to living the dangerous life he'd been living the past year, beheading a hybrid on his front step without a second thought. He also showed great disdain and annoyance at all vampires, even Stefan, blaming them for the troubles he'd had in life, going so far as to try and forcibly get his sister out of Mystic Falls. After he became a member of the Five, Jeremy gained the hunter's instinct that all of the members have. It made him unconsciously cold and hateful toward all vampires, giving him the programmed mindset to be able to kill them with more efficiency. This made him dangerous to his friends and family, who worked on removing those instincts so he'd at least be able to avoid killing his friends. Jeremy is shown to struggle with this instinct prior to his death but managed to keep it mostly under control.

Jeremy has consistently shown himself to be very brave. Often, he took on difficult and dangerous tasks without complaint, and is extremely loyal to his friends and family. He is also a talented artist, but since the arrival of the vampires to Mystic Falls, that skill has been sidelined in exchange for his natural fighting talents.

In season six, Jeremy appears to be grieving about the recent loss of Bonnie. Since he can no longer see her, he is dealing with it in his own way. He appears to be playing video games, drinking, and hooking up with random girls and  to cover the loss of Bonnie. Jeremy becomes less of a hunter, and doesn't find a reason to keep up with his hunter abilities if he is no longer needed as a hunter.

Physical Appearance

Jeremy Gilbert

Main article: Jeremy Gilbert/Appearance

Jeremy is a handsome young man, standing at 6' foot tall, he has a well-built form and possesses dark brown hair and eyes to match. In the first two season's, Jeremy could be considered "cute" with a lean body, however as seen in the fourth season, his body is much more defined and muscular.

Jeremy's style over the seasons has changed somewhat.

During season one, due to the loss of his parents and his drug addiction, he usually was seen wearing black clothing, hoodies and dark jeans. Post-Season one, his clothing style became much more relaxed, seen wearing lighter colored clothing and wearing a tux for special occasions. His dark hair was originally short, slightly spiked which grew into long bangs, however, in the later two seasons, has returned to his original short brown cut.

Powers and Abilities

After being resurrected by Bonnie, Jeremy gained the power of mediumship, or the ability to see ghosts. This ability is now defunct with the destruction of the Other Side.

As supernaturally gifted hunters, members of the Brotherhood of the Five are endowed with peak or above human physical abilities, such as strength, speed, agility, reflexes, and endurance. This includes a natural affinity with weapons combat and hunting.

Prior to being a Hunter, he was able to see the 'invisible' Hunter's Mark tattoo on Connor's arm, which, according to Connor, meant that Jeremy was a potential vampire hunter. Once Connor died, the first part of the Hunter's Mark appeared on Jeremy's right hand, and after he killed a vampire-werewolf hybrid, he activated his powers and became a full member of the Brotherhood of the Five. Becoming a supernatural hunter gave him increased strength and agility; in addition to these physical powers, Jeremy also became immune to Silas' psychic powers, vampire mind compulsion, and could not be a host to a Traveler as a passenger.

Jeremy is also an accomplished hand-to-hand fighter after being trained by Damon, Klaus and Alaric throughout the series, and has personally killed dozens of vampires, many even before he had activated his supernatural hunter abilities. In addition to his hand-to-hand skills, Jeremy has demonstrated that he is a capable marksman with both firearms and a crossbow, as he took a Hybrid down from a good distance with a crossbow, and shot Damon in the head with precision.

Anna was hurt that he wanted this to be with Vicki Donovan, his ex-girlfriend, he believed left after transitioning. However, after a distance, she and Jeremy made up and began a romantic relationship, bonding over the loss of parents. Anna left him a vial of her blood in case he wanted to turn, although he changed his mind. • Jeremy is a variation from the Hebrew name "Jeremiah", who is one of the prophets of the Old Testament. The name means "Yahweh has uplifted".[2] Jeremy has returned from the dead several times.
  • Gilbert is a English given name and surname from Germanic origins. The English language surname is derived from Giselbert, a medieval name composed of "gisil" ("pledge", "hostage", "noble youth") and "berht" ("bright", "famous").[3]

Jeremy Gilbert/Tropes

  • Jeremy is often called "Jer" by his family and friends.
  • Jeremy's birthday is October 13.
    • Jeremy's astrological sign is Libra.
  • Vicki was his first love interest on the show.
  • Though he is a primary character in the show, Jeremy does not exist in the novels. He is the only main character to exist on the show who does not exist in the books.
    • Instead of having a brother, Elena has a four-year-old sister named Margaret.
  • In Season 1, Jeremy dated two vampires (Vicki and Anna) who were killed in the final episodes of a chapter (Haunted and Founder's Day). They both appear to him as ghosts at the end of season two.
  • Alaric and Jeremy have each had two couples who have become vampires at some point in their lives and died while they were still together.
  • Alaric and Jeremy have each dated Witch at some point.
  • Interestingly, both Jeremy and his ancestor Johnathan Gilbert were killed by Salvatores and came back to life thanks to the rings. Jeremy was killed by Damon and Johnathan was killed by Stefan.
  • Jeremy is the first human resurrected with magic and through the help of a witch (Bonnie).
  • He was the last character seen in Season Two.
  • Jeremy has died and been revived or resurrected many times in the series, including in the second, third, and the fourth season.
    • Season Two:
      • (The Return) Damon killed Jeremy by snapping his neck, and he was revived by the Gilbert ring.
      • (The Sacrifice) Katherine drained Jeremy's blood when he tried to get the moonstone from the vampire's tomb and he was brought back with the Gilbert ring.
      • (As I Lay Dying) Jeremy was accidentally shot and killed by Liz Forbes when she tried to shoot Damon, and was resurrected with magic by Bonnie.
    • Season Three:
      • (Before Sunset) Bonnie stopped Jeremy's heart in order to cast the desiccation spell on Klaus, and she brought him back with her magic.
    • Season Four:
      • (We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes) Elena accidentally stabbed Jeremy in the neck while hallucinating due to the effects of the Hunter's curse, believing he was Connor, and he was brought back to life with the Gilbert ring.
      • (Down the Rabbit Hole) Silas snapped Jeremy's neck after being fed his blood by Katherine.
  • Jeremy was the first human to kill a hybrid.
  • Jeremy was shown to have a dog in Denver, making him the first human on the show to have a pet.
  • While in Denver, Jeremy believed that Kol Mikaelson was truly his friend, not knowing that he was actually an Original vampire who Klaus had ordered to keep tabs on him. It wasn't until Damon and Elena came to Denver to bring him back to Mystic Falls that he learned the truth.
  • It was originally believed that Jeremy, after becoming a medium, could only see the ghosts of people on the Other Side that he knew when they were alive, such as Anna, Vicki, or Alaric, but it was eventually revealed that he could see any ghost on the Other Side, as long as he had something or someone to help him make a connection, such as when Jeremy contacted Rose for Damon and Elena.
  • Although Alaric first felt the negative effects of the Gilbert ring after his fourth death, Jeremy had died the same number of times with the Gilbert ring and never experienced those side-effects. This could possibly be explained by the fact that Esther had been coaxing out Alaric's repressed vampire-hunting nature during his brief stints on the Other Side before being revived by the Gilbert ring; Jeremy neither shared Ric's resentment toward vampires nor had such interactions with Esther.
  • He and Matt are indirectly responsible for Elena becoming a vampire.
    • It was Jeremy's idea to get have Matt take Elena out of town, and Matt was the reason Elena drowned because she wanted Stefan to save Matt first.
  • Apart from Elena, Damon and Stefan, he's the only character who appeared in every episode of Season One except for A Few Good Men.
  • Jeremy and Caroline, are the only characters aside from the main three who have appeared in the most episodes.
  • Jeremy was the first human Elena healed with her vampire blood.
  • About same time Connor died, Jeremy got the first segment of his Hunter's Mark on his right hand.
  • Jeremy is the second human to kill an Original (Kol). The first was Matt Donovan, who killed Finn.
  • Jeremy is the only member of the Brotherhood of the Five to kill an Original, and he is the only one to face Silas in combat, though he didn't kill him.
  • Jeremy is the fourth main character to die in the series.
    • He is the second main male character to die, the first being Alaric.
  • Jeremy is the first major character to be killed without transitioning into a vampire.
  • Jeremy is the first character from the Other Side to be resurrected.
  • Jeremy is one of three main characters who killed an Original. The other two are Niklaus and Matt.
  • He is the first character in the series to get expelled from school; this occurred in I Know What You Did Last Summer, after he got into a fight with two boys at school and, according to Damon, nearly put them in the hospital
    • Thankfully for Jeremy, Damon compelled his principal to merely suspend him for three days instead.
  • Theoretically, he has been an orphan since the death of Grayson and Miranda Sommers-Gilbert , and thus became an orphan before Elena, who wasn't technically orphaned until her last living parent (John Gilbert) died in The Sun Also Rises.
  • Jeremy Gilbert seems to have bad luck when it comes to love, as all three girls (Vicki, Anna and Bonnie) he was interested in died while they were dating; although, Bonnie was eventually brought back to life, in a sense, when she was made the anchor to the Other Side.
  • In Gone Girl, Liv completed a locator spell for Bonnie and Jeremy to help them find Elena/Katherine.
  • According to Liv, the Travelers cannot mess with Jeremy's mind due to his status as a supernatural hunter of the Five, as they were specifically created to be immune to all forms of mind control. This also means that hunters can't be Passengers for The Travelers.
  • Jeremy's sidearm of choice, when facing Damon and other vampires that were compelled to kill him, was a Beretta 92FS loaded with wooden bullets and which had a flashlight attachment.
  • Jeremy's favorite insult is "dick," which he has used to refer to Damon, Silas, and many others over the course of the series.
  • During the period of time that the Purification Spell was active in Mystic Falls, Jeremy did not have access to his supernatural hunter abilities while within the town borders. However, since Kai absorbed the anti-magic boundary around the town, Jeremy has full access to his powers at all times.
  • Jeremy left Mystic Falls for good in Stay.
    • Unbeknownst to Elena and the others, he is using art school as a cover up to pursue his actual career of vampire hunting.
    • Alaric is the only one aware of Jeremy's true intentions in Stay, and he has even gone so far as to feed Jeremy leads to suspicious "animal attacks" for him to check out in Santa Fe and the surrounding area.
    • Caroline Dries confirmed that, at the end of Season Six, Tyler joined Jeremy in hunting vampires, himself leaving Mystic Falls behind.
  • Jeremy made an appearance in I'm Thinking Of You All The While to see his sister, who is in a magic-induced coma.
  • Season Seven is the first season not to feature Jeremy as a main character.
    • In fact, Season Seven was the first season not to feature or mention Jeremy at all.
  • The reason Jeremy wasn't seen in the afterlife with Elena, his parents, aunt or uncle was because he wasn't dead yet.[4]
