In Klaus, Klaus Mikaelson (in Alaric Saltzman's body) sent Maddox to bring Greta and his luggage, including the box. Maddox and Greta cast a spell to transport Klaus' spirit back into his body which was in the box. They succeeded and Klaus came out of the box.
