The relationship between Original Hybrid Klaus and werewolf Ansel. Ansel is Klaus' biological father. It was revealed that Esther pulled Ansel back from the Other Side right before it collapsed. The relationship between Klaus and Ansel will presumably develop during the second season of The Originals.

Pre-history

The Middle Ages

Niklaus finds murdered Ansel.

Niklaus was the result of an affair between Ansel and Esther. After his birth, Ansel wanted to make contact with him, but Esther forbid it because Mikael was beginning to take more of an interest in his family (he was still grieving/mourning over the "death" of Freya) and because Niklaus' birth it made them a family again, which resulted in the births of Kol, Rebekah and Henrik. After Henrik was murdered by a pack member of Ansel's clan.

Mikael convinced Esther to protect the family using by reaching into the dark magic, which resulted in the creation of vampires. After becoming a vampire, Niklaus made his first human kill and his werewolf side was triggered, making him the first hybrid. Mikael discovered that he was not his son and, in his rage, he slaughtered Ansel and half the village's werewolves before forcing Esther to suppress Niklaus' werewolf side. Ansel's death and the massacre of his pack was the first seed for the war that started between vampires and werewolves, a war that continues to the present day.

The Originals Season Two

In Wheel Inside the Wheel, Ansel helps the mother of Klaus' child, Hayley search for Elijah who was kidnapped by Esther. They search for him at the graveyard where Ansel runs into Klaus, who remembers him from the time he saw his dead body and refuses to acknowledge that it's real believing that Esther is creating an hallucination. Esther confirms that it's real to Klaus but he refuses to acknowledge Ansel's existence.

In Chasing The Devil's Tail, Klaus encounters Ansel in the bayou while searching for an antidote for Elijah. Despite Klaus' revelation that he would have liked to have been raised as Ansel's son instead, he realizes that Ansel's knowledge of Hope's survival could potentially be shared with Esther. To prevent the possibility of Hope becoming a target for Esther, Klaus regrettably decides that he has no choice other than to kill Ansel.

Trivia

• Ansel was revealed to have been brought back by Esther before the destruction of the Other Side. However, because of Klaus' hatred for his mother for trying to kill Hope, Klaus refuses to be a part of Ansel's life.
• It is revealed that Ansel has been watching over Klaus from the other side for 1 000 years.
• Ansel is one of only a handful of characters who knows that Hope is still alive.
• Klaus wanted to trust him, but had to kill him for Hope's safety.
