“ | I've been thinking a lot about the past lately. How one stupid decision can...Can turn your life into something that you don't recognize. Like it belongs to someone else. I made a mistake, and I lost someone I loved... And I'd do anything to take it back, but I can't. All I can do is...Try and find a way to live with it. | ” |

Plot[]

The three girls leave Oscar under Enzo's watch while they find Julian's coffin. He phones Valerie to tell her that the other Heretics are onto her.
Meanwhile, as she's about to leave the town, Damon blocks her way with his car. He interrogates her about her killing Oscar and than framing him, which she denies at first. Stefan arrives and the three head to find Julian before the Heretics.
While the Heretics are gone, Bonnie pays Enzo a visit and asks him about the Phoenix Stone. Oscar attacks the maid and Bonnie asks him if he recognizes him, he says that she's the one who'd helped him get out of the Stone. Oscar gets mad after they keep calling him Oscar and attacks Bonnie and Enzo asking for the stone. Enzo manages to kill "Oscar" who has found the stone, and Enzo takes it from him.
At the same time, Valerie, Stefan and Damon reach the warehouse with Julian's coffin. She explains to them the nature of the Phoenix Stone: it's filled with old vampire souls, which means that neither Oscar nor Jo are actually back, old vampire souls are just possessing their bodies. They reach Julian's coffin and set it on fire, but the other Heretics arrive and stop her. Lily banishes Valerie and then Valerie reveals that it was Lily's idea to put the sleeping spell on Elena. This angers Damon and he attempts to kill Lily, but Beau causes the explosion and the Heretics escape with Julian's coffin.
At the Salvatore Boarding House, Enzo asks Lily to choose between him and Julian and she chooses the latter. Enzo decides to hand over the Stone.
Meanwhile, Alaric tells Jo about how she died after being stabbed in the stomach, but she tells him that she was stabbed in the heart. Later, Bonnie calls him and tells him what the Phoenix Stone actually does and that that girl is not Jo. Alaric meets with "Jo" and realizes that she's not his wife, but promises that he'll help her.
Valerie tells Stefan about how she killed herself after Julian killed her child, not realizing that she had vampire blood in her system. As the Heretics bring Julian back to life, Bonnie teams up with Damon and vow to get revenge on Lily.
