Loopholes are natural occurrences created by Nature to serve as balance to the existence of one substance or another, for an example, the Original Family were turned into vampires and the source of their immortality and power and existence was allowed the ability to take it back from them. Loopholes are understandable ways for Nature to balance out the existence or the excess of the Universal Lifeforms and there is almost always a loophole for Nature to use in all magical creations, most notably immortality. They are not only used as balances as Hope Mikaelson is a loophole in the Natural Order, whether against Nature itself or otherwise. Another example to loopeholes is the law that no magic can exist without being bound to a considerably longevite anchor.

Known loopholes in nature are (not limited to) Magic, doppelgängers, the White Oak Trees, the Cure, Hope Mikaelson and a couple more.

Throughout The Vampire Diaries

Season Two

In season two it is first revealed the existence of doppelgängers and their potency for binding powerful spells such as the Hybrid Curse that was placed on Klaus. Elena is revealed to be a doppelgänger descendant of Katerina Petrova, a five hundred year old vampire. At the time, they were unknown as being anything more than natural occurrences with powerful blood with immense magical potential. The Original Witch is revealed to have been forced, as a law of nature, to bind Klaus's Curse to the Petrova doppelgänger bloodline, thus the binder was made a loophole: the thing which the spell was bound to could undo the spell through an active doppelganger's death in a sacrificial ritual.

Season Four

It is revealed that when Silas became immortal, he was truly immortal, and Nature's only way of getting around that was creating versions of him that could die - doppelgängers, which applies for Amarantha, too, resulting in the birth of Elena, Katherine, and Tatia as shadow selves of Amara while Stefan and Tom were the shadow faces of Silas.

Season Six

It is revealed that in fact, a special type of witches called siphoners can become vampires and retain their ability to use magic by siphoning the magic out of their vampirism. They are called Heretics. Josette Parker called this a loophole in nature. Malachai Parker, when turned into a hybrid witch/vampire, was capable of siphoning the magic out of a werewolf bite. Since the werewolf curse is magic, so is the venom of a werewolf bite. And so Kai cures himself by siphoning the magic out of the venom.

Throughout The Originals

Obviously, one of the most important loophole in The Originals is Niklaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall's daughter Hope Mikaelson. Both Klaus and Hayley thought it was impossible for Hayley to be pregnant with Klaus' child but Sophie Deveraux was convinced it was a magical miracle baby. Hope was born as the first known Werewolf-Vampire-Witch Hybrid. She inherited her werewolf gene from both of her parents while her vampire and witch legacy came from her father who is the first Vampire-Werewolf Hybrid and the son of the Original Witch. By her mother, she is werewolf royalty.
