This article is about the dimension. You may be looking for the character, Malivore, or an episode of Legacies.

Something attacked me, and I woke up in an endless darkness. I could feel the presence of others, but not see or hear them. I was there for so long, and then, just as suddenly, I found myself not far from here. With an urge to possess that knife. [...] It's like something pressing inside me, telling me to take it. [...] There is a dark pit beneath the earth. Locked away. I can see it. I can feel it. I am meant to take the knife there. If I do, I will find peace and finally be free.
— The Dryad to Alaric in Malivore

Malivore, also referred to as the Malivore Pit or Black Pit, is a dark metaphysical, purgatorial "hell" dimension. It was created simultaneously and self-contained within the physical golem known as Malivore, which was created to wipe the scourge of the supernatural off the face of the Earth. Its creation consumed the likes of all supernatural beings that were consumed and they were erased from the collective consciousness, effectively, all of history, of the world. It was a permanent death and they were left in the dark to perish.

The black pit that acts as a portal to the dimension was located in what is now known as Fort Valley, Georgia. After Hope's sacrifice of diving into the portal in her attempt to stop him from rising, the portal was seemingly destroyed; however, a diminished portal appeared in the Town Square of Mystic Falls, Virginia. After the portal was closed a second time, the Necromancer recreated the portal in the Salvatore crypt using Ryan Clarke's corpse. The portal was closed for a third time when Hope and Landon used the portal to escape from the 2029 prison world. Though the physical portal, the black pit, was destroyed, Malivore was raised and had taken control of his vessel, Landon Kirby, and escaped the prison world and continued to pose as Landon to get close to Cleo Sowande. He was still capable of consuming others and releasing monsters.

The dimension was seemingly destroyed in See You On The Other Side after Hope fully transitioned into a tribrid and stabbed Landon with a weapon created with her blood, killing him and Malivore in the process.

Description[]

Malivore was created around a millennia ago as an endless expanse of darkness designed to trap beings and isolate them. While those trapped within can feel the presence of other trapped beings, they could not see or hear them. Time also moves differently within the dimension. The Necromancer describes that what feels like days is probably months out in the real world. While Ryan Clarke and Hope Mikaelson were trapped together within Malivore, Ryan questioned the passage of time, unknown if it had been a week, a month, or even a year, during the summer of 2028. While within the dimension, trapped beings do not experience the ravages of time nor do their bodies require sustenance; for example, Kurutta was consumed in 1308 and emerged in the modern world 720 years later.

Decades prior to 2028, Malivore was contained and returned to its natural state and three locks were created to seal it shut - a knife, an anubian urn, and a dagger.

Malivore can also create personalized prisons to torture specific monsters trapped within; such as recreating the Ice Dream Palace to punish the Necromancer. Malivore then forced him to serve the humans and creatures stuck within. He could also simulate the passage of time by making it appear as if there was daylight so that when night came and the shop was closed, he could spend the night dreading the next day. Malivore also recreated Ayomi's hut and forced Cleo to watch it burn down, all the while hearing the screams of presumably her family trapped within.
