Please direct comments about the transcript towards me in the future.
We are working on them and are extremely busy. Not all the dialog is up and I don't think she has finished 8x01... so please be patient with our progress! This takes a lot of personal time to finish and we (the transcribers) are not immune to rl stuff getting in the way with work (multiply jobs) and school/classes..
Thanks for understanding.
Correction: Hello, Brother looks complete 8x02 is still a work in progress though.
If you prefer to speak English i can type to you. English instead :) whatever is easiest to you.
I know we've never chatted, though I wanted to stop by and say Hello (I noticed you've returned after a small hiatus). I wanted to give you a huge thank you for doing the transcript work. Having done it myself I understand the pressure you were put under, especially from some anons. I just thought I would extend a friendly greeting and possibly propose a thought.
I was wondering though whether or not you would be willing to come back at least maybe partially (again this is completely optional) for the Transcripts. My thinking is that if Shirlycoh1 (Unless it has changed she is willing to help), you, and Myself and maybe one or more users tackle the transcripts together... i.e section it off in 15 minute intervals, then that would drastically reduce the amount of edits that one user would have to do by themselves. Since TVD and TO are on different schedules for the TVD final, that also reduces 2 eps to just 1 for the most part.
Again this is completely your choice if you want to come back (or not, whichever). Maybe if not for the transcripts then maybe since you are an amazing linguist then I could provide you with the spells or something for their transcription since I'm no good at writing them (I use google translate and work it until the voice there sounds similar to the televised version). Please take some time to consider, as much as you need. I'll patiently await.
Hi there! Thanks for messaging me, I appreciate the kindess. :) I love Wikia and the TVD-verse so I guess I couldn't stay away for long, haha. As for your proposal, I would definitely be more willing to consider it if there were others helping out-- most of my problem the first time around was that I was expected to write transcripts for both shows at the same time all on my own while working/going to school full time, and every time I tried to cut it down to just TO, I would still get bombed with requests to do TVD anyway and it just got really overwhelming after a while, like you said you experienced as well.
The fact that the shows' seasons will be shorter and the two series will be staggered does make me feel a lot better about it, though! In the end, it's going to depend on my schedule-- I have an interview for a new job on Friday that, if I get, will mean I will be working five days a week from 3pm-11pm EST, and I'm not sure what days it will be, so it could seriously limit the amount of time that I would have to do it.
I DO want to help, though, regardless of my schedule, so at the very least I think I could help with the spells and/or with the descriptions if you and Shirly were okay with doing the dialogue? If not, I'm sure we could work something out that will be good for all of us, it's just the amount of time I will have to dedicate to it that is up in the air at the moment. Let me know what you think and if necessary we can brainstorm a plan since we still have a few more weeks until TVD starts. :)
Hi . Thanks Shirly for getting back to me so quick. Yeah I'm not asking for you to do it all or anything... I mean if we can section it off then we can just fill in wherever. And having upward if 3 people on one transcript we should be able to finish it relatively quick.
Baring any other work, I could possibly start on it the same night it airs or the next morning.
Also concerning anons, I could perhaps handle their comments.. some in particular are very demanding, pushy and act like this (wiki) is our job, which is not the case.
So in the meantime, we have this thread and if y'all have any suggestions feel free to post them. I'll bookmark this or something and send out a message a day or so before 8x01.
I suggest continuing to use the same format as s7... some of the early transcripts are broken up into acts, which I personally don't care for
OH my God, I'm sorry. Half the time my phone incorrectly auto-corrects my words (I have a reluctance to edit via mobile). I apologize Shirley --I'm on my laptop now :) My name is Ethan (I don't think it says it on my profile, so that or just Bennett whichever :)
It premieres on a Friday so I could perhaps start it at least by Saturday... yeah no that is fine (school comes first!), once it's online I usually download it anyways. I can usually get a hold of it about an hour or so after it airs... so if Canada has it out on Thursday night (like the switch half way through last season) then I'll have it early by I wont post it and I'll probably not work on it until Sat. (I usually write it in a Word doc or something to try and catch errors and stuff, then post it)
That all sounds perfect, honestly! I don't have cable anymore so I usually find the episodes online after they air, so I'd be able to start early in the day on Saturdays as well depending on my work schedule! I also agree about the formats as well-- I like the scene breakdown better than breaking it down into acts (not to toot my own horn, since that was the format I always used LOL), but I'm willing to do whatever we all agree is best! I think we've got an excellent plan going here. I'm also glad that we're all in agreement about real-life issues like school and work coming first, because I know its easy for people to forget that-- both for the writers like us who want to do good work and for the readers who are eager to see the transcripts. Anons especially can get kind of testy about it, like you've already said.
Also, just in case either of you didn't know, my name is Emily but a lot of people call me Clary around here too, so either of those names are fine with me. :)
(Oh, and Ethan, to answer your question, I am a nurse! That is so exciting that you're in grad school, I am so impressed-- I feel like I've been in school forever so the thought of going to get a masters is exhausting to me, so anyone who has the motivation and dedication to do so is a super-star in my book. I'm sure you'll do amazing work. :) )
This is all going very well! I like this format as well, makes me want to go back and re-work the previous ones that are divided into acts (maybe after the show ends). Yes I totally agree real-life is much more important and this is secondary. Yeah testy/pushy anon's tend to get on my nerves but hopefully they'll see that this go round should be easier to handle and be a little more patient.
Nice to 'meet' you Clary/Emily.
Lol, at this point with work and grad school and the schooling years prior, I feel like a perpetual student. I'm roughly a 1.5yr into it so its a little slow the way I'm doing it but I'll eventually get there. Whether or not a continue for a PhD will be debatable once I finish. And thank you, I do try and it's hard sometimes but being here helps me relax, kick back and do something not work/school related. :)
Hope things are going well and hope y'all are excited for the (last) premiere. I just wanted to give a small reminder. I should be able to get started with the transcript tomorrow (likely really late Saturday/into Sunday).
If it is still stands, Shirley and I will do the dialogue while Emily does the descriptions? Just let me know what to expect.
Shirly we can divide the dialogue in half, i.e. one of us was take the first 30min while the other takes the last half. I guess I don't really have a preference on which I take..
I'll take the first 30min I suppose. Maybe we'll switch every episode.
I'm extied but also sad, because it's the last season which means no more episodes.
Hi Shirley, I started approx. 21min into the episode (with no commercials its about 42min).. I formatted what you had already there to continue with the same format from Gods and Monsters transcript. I might have some free time tomorrow, so I may go ahead an work more on it.
Clary, do you have the time to work on the descriptions or you want me to do it? (All I did was the dialogue.)
Hi I was going off the format from the previous season (name and the scene headers)
Name (not all caps): ... dialogue...
The only thin that I should have changed is the name from all caps to regular and added the colon symbol, my intentions were not to delete anything, I looked over the history and and tell if something was deleted, can you be more specific (so I can add it back)
Edit: ah I see, I'm sorry I didn't go far enough back into the previous transcripts to see the whole name is all caps (I can correct this back if you wish,... again I apologize)
I'm sorry that I'm freaking out, I have asperger's syndrome and it's hard for me to accept changes. I really like the former format, and now that you changed it I'm freaking out, also because I think the old one is better.
No its quite ok. It's my bad, the last few episode transcripts from the last season didn't have it in all caps,... I will change this back now.
I just used the find all and replace function in a work doc last time, so I can do that again ( hence why everything was highlighted)... can you tell me what I deleted too and I can add it back as I fix this?
sorry to butt in. but none of the other transcripts are in caps. section 3 of the transcript says amory. and the text looks weird. and what I mean the words are not lined up. can someone please look into this?
I did not get to watch live :( In fact, I haven't gotten to watch it at all yet, LOL, which is the downside of working my current schedule at my new job-- I work doubles every other friday/saturday (including this weekend) and as a result my TV life and wiki life is suffering so much! But I plan to watch it tomorrow (or I guess today, since it is now 1AM here LOL) and then add the descriptions. :)
Thank you so much Ethan and Shirly for your hard work!
That sucks, but I understand. Let me know if you need any assistance, I might be able to add some descriptions after work some nights ( Karen Petrova-Laufeyson also said she could help if you need the assistance). I don't really know what is more time consuming the descriptions or the dialogue but just ask if you need the help ( since you're working doubles you need time to relax for yourself and not work too hard)
Have a great day off. Enjoy the episode (let me know what you think too, I'm interested in reading your opinion)
I know what you mean. I'm very rarely stick to the point where I miss class/work though its a pain and so not fun! (when I was younger, 10 and below I think, I was sick all the time)... I can't even imagine being sick longer than 2-3 days. when I had my wisdom teeth out... I was laid up for 6 days and it was painful a few days afterwards.
I'll work a little bit on the transcript tonight and tomorrow I have a few hours I can work on it :)
I'm better with the transcript than adding the descriptions too.
And, because of the Asperger's syndrom I mentioned earlier, it's hard for me to understand the expressions or emotions the characters are showing, that's why I always look in the transcript after it's finished.
Just wanted to give you an update. I got half of 8x03 up last night. I'll try to work on the descriptions for 8x02 sometime before the new episode. Let me know if you can't finish the Transcript though
Just wanted to say thanks for all of your hard work. And have a great life. Yeah the originals and the vampire diaires are eh now. But it's gonna be weird not seeing that you edit the transcripts. No one is updating the pages. But I get it.
Thank you for this! It really does mean a lot to me, and I don't want to sound ungrateful for all of the support I've received from people like you, because it has helped me through some really hard times. It's my fault for being overambitious, though-- I'm just a really anxious and easily overwhelmed person, and the pressure I was getting from some people here was just too much for me to handle. I do feel really bad about leaving, especially since I've been doing it for so long and really do want to make you guys happy. I didn't want it to have to come to this, but I feel like I'm no good to anyone unless I'm taking care of myself, and I think this is what I need to do to do that. I'm sorry that my own personal issues got in the way, though.
I'm also sorry that no one else has been working on the transcripts, though. :( I think Shirlycoh1 was going to come back and help out when her own school and personal issues were worked out, and maybe now that I'm officially not doing it anymore, some others will step up. Thanks again for the nice message, and I wish you the best as well! <3
I'm also really sorry again for blowing up on you a couple months ago-- I have felt bad about it ever since, and I really shouldn't have taken my frustration out on you, because I know your intentions were good and it was unfair of me. :(
Look, I'm sorry if I'm letting you down or disappointing you, but I just really can't do these transcripts anymore. It's too much work, too much pressure, and is causing me way too much stress and anxiety in my real life. There are a lot of reasons for this:
1) Writing transcripts is not my job. I don't get paid to do it, and spending 24+ hours a week on it doesn't pay the bills-- that's what my career as a nurse is for, and since school is over, my boss bumped me up to full-time, which I need to have enough money to pay my student loan bills. I have a lot less free time than I used to, and when I do have some time to myself, I'm usually way too tired to work transcripts, because it takes a lot of work.
2) I started doing transcripts for fun, and it was manageable when I was just doing TO. But then people wanted me to write TVD, and even though I kept saying that I didn't have time to do both between work and school, everyone kept expecting me to do it anyway, and do it in a timely fashion, and I didn't want to let anyone down, so I did. But between sacrificing all of my free time and the constant comments and messages urging me to do it faster, I became so anxious and stressed out from all the pressure that I was literally afraid to even log in here out of fear of what comments I had waiting for me. I would work myself into a panic about not having the time to do it fast enough because I knew I'd get complaints if I didn't.
3) I don't actually like watching either show anymore. After all of the character assassination on TVD and the fact that Cami and Davina were killed off on TO, I don't get any enjoyment out of watching it whatsoever-- in fact, it was literally a struggle just to make it through the last episodes. Why should I have to spend 12+ hours an episode (which, as you reminded me, is 6 episodes, meaning 72 hours) transcribing shows that I don't even enjoy? That's not really fair to ask.
So, I'm sorry for the novel, but I needed to state how I feel for the record. To make a long story short, I'm sorry if this disappoints you, but I just don't have it in me to do this anymore. It's too stressful, too time-consuming, and I just don't like it. Besides, I wasn't the first transcriber on this wiki-- there were many before me, and there will be many after me as well. This wiki has thousands of users and contributors, and I'm not the only person who knows how to do it.
And before you bring up the TWP wiki, it's a completely different situation over there. I've been an admin there for almost a year, so I have a responsibility to contribute regularly. I have done about 3 transcripts for them in the last couple months, but since the wiki is small and the show is on hiatus, I don't have deadlines or expectations. I can go days without working on it at all, or spend just a few minutes a day adding to it in a word document and then post it when I'm done, and no one cares if it takes 4-6 weeks to finish. There's no pressure and no stress. Not to mention that, unlike TO/TVD, I actually enjoy watching TW. That doesn't change my feelings about doing transcripts here.
