The Protoclown was a clown effigy-turned-supernatural being who first appeared in the thirteenth episode of the fourth season of Legacies.
Early History[]
The protoclown was created by an Egyptian woman, a conscripted, then exiled, witch during a Roman village's annual harvest festival in 100 A.D. Originally, the Roman villagers used the clown effigy to confess all their sins then they would burn it, believing that it would destroy all their misdeeds along with it. The witch instead brought the effigy to life to punish the villagers for taking her away from her home.

Season Four[]
In Was This the Monster You Saw?, the protoclown finds Ben and Jed out in the woods. He attacks Jed, biting him in the shoulder and makes his way to Ben, who eventually escapes him.
Later that night, the protoclown finds MG, Wade, and Kaleb and Hope at a bonfire. He only attacks Hope, though, biting her in the shoulder as well before running off.
He makes his way inside of the Salvatore School, encountering Alaric who's prepared a large number of his sins written on paper. The clown consumes them, though he's impaled in the back of the head by Cleo Sowande with a frozen blade and melts away.

Powers and Abilities[]
The protoclown's bite poisons anyone who comes into contact with the creature. It would force them to confront the memories of the worst things they'd ever done, so that they could be redeemed, or die by being stubborn.
Weaknesses[]
The protoclown was born by a fire which means death by the opposite.
