Let us begin with a toast to our shared gift: immortality. After a thousand years, one might expect life to be less keenly felt, for its beauties and its sorrows do diminish with time. But, as vampires, we feel more deeply than humans could possibly imagine. Insatiable need, exquisite pain...Our victories, and our defeats.
Klaus

Plot[]

Klaus is hosting a dinner at the Abattoir with Hayley, Marcel, Diego and other vampires in attendance. Klaus makes a toast as the servants slit their wrists to offer blood. Diego wants to know about Hayley and the baby so Klaus tells everybody not to worry because he is giving the vampires permission to slaughter the Werewolves in The Bayou. Hayley protests as Klaus explains that without Werewolves there will be no Hybrids. Rebekah and Elijah are outside their home watching movers pack items into trucks. Rebekah thinks that Klaus is just punishing them but Elijah believes they've really offended and hurt Klaus. Elijah begins to walk away and Rebekah wants to know where he's going. Elijah says they can't trust that Klaus is keeping Hayley safe.

Camille is in Klaus' bedroom typing what he's dictating to her. Marcel arrives and wants to know why Cami is there. Klaus informs him that she knows all about them. Cami tells Marcel not to worry as she's been compelled to forget as soon as she leaves. Marcel thinks Klaus compelled Cami to like him. Klaus replies that she was only compelled to give him a chance and that any feelings she had for Marcel were real. She is upset over the situation but Klaus compels her to forget and to leave. Hayley is trying to sneak out of The Abattoir but is caught by Diego. Before he can do anything, Elijah arrives and snaps his neck. Rebekah also appears after taking down two other vampires. Hayley tells them not to worry about her and asks them to help the Werewolves in The Bayou. Rebekah says they're not a rescue squad but Hayley pleads with them.

Klaus and Marcel are sitting opposite each other. Klaus is informed that The Faction isn't happy with the regime change and have called a meeting. Marcel tells him to be diplomatic about the situation and Klaus replies that there are a few things he needs to confess. He admits that Thierry was never disloyal and had been set up by him. Klaus also tells him that he compelled Josh but he suspects Marcel already knows this. However, Marcel was unaware of the deal Davina made with Elijah in exchange for pages from Esther's Grimoire. Marcel tells Klaus that he appreciates the honesty and the meeting with The Faction is in an hour. Cami enters her apartment and finds it has been littered with warning notes that she left herself. She looks terrified as she plays back her conversation with Klaus on her phone.

Marcel tries to persuade Davina to move to The Abattoir. She doesn't want to but Marcel tells her that he knows about her deal with Elijah and she is not safe from the other witches. Klaus arrives and he compliments her on her artistic abilities. After Davina assumes that her moving is Klaus' idea. Klaus tells her that she's devoted to Marcel and Marcel is devoted to him. Davina looks sad as Klaus and Marcel walk away. Klaus and Marcel arrive at St. Anne's for the meeting where Kieran and The Faction are waiting. Kieran thanks them for coming and tells Klaus and Marcel it's time for introductions. The Mayor and the Sheriff make it clear that if their pockets stay full then they'll look the other way. The sheriff makes a subtle threat to Klaus and Marcel. Klaus in turn says that The Faction will take what he gives or outlive their usefulness.

In the Bayou, Diego and his vampire crew are looking for the werewolves. Elijah and Rebekah appear and tell them to stop. Diego takes the hint and whistles to his crew to leave. Elijah senses somebody nearby and finds Eve. She correctly guesses that Hayley sent him and Rebekah to protect her and the werewolves. Eve says that the werewolves won't be found unless they want to. Rebekah responds they found her but Eve says it is according to plan as she has something to show them. Klaus and Marcel are drinking at the bar when Klaus' phone rings. The Sheriff is on the line and he tells Klaus that the Faction has made a decision. Suddenly an explosion is heard and some vampires are shot or catch fire. Klaus and Marcel are hit by bullets. Marcel writhes on the floor in pain as Klaus appears angry over what the Faction has just done. Marcel tells Klaus that this is his fault and he better step up or nobody will follow him. Klaus asks how he should respond to the situation, Marcel replies they should go kill the Faction. Eve shows a map to Elijah and Rebekah. She tells them about the unprotected werewolves that's come to the Bayou because of Hayley's pregnancy. When Rebekah replies that they don't care, Eve tells her to trust that the newcomers need to be kept alive and she'll show them why.

Back in New Orleans, Davina finds Josh in the garage at the Abattoir. He explains that he's hiding from Klaus because of the trap he led Klaus in. Davina says that if Klaus tries to hurt him then she will hurt Klaus. Hayley arrives and tells both of them that maybe they can all look out for each other. Kieran arrives at Cami's apartment. She is upset over the notes she found sprawled everywhere and plays a recording of her conversation with Klaus. She tells him that she knows Klaus is messing with her memory. Kieran is interrupted by a call telling him that the Faction just took matters into their own hands. He leaves Cami's in a hurry. Kieran arrives at Rousseau's and confronts the Faction for trying to ignite a war. The Sheriff tells him that if he wants to criticize then to just send an e-mail. There is some confusion as to who called the meeting until Klaus appears. He tells the Faction that he will not make the same mistake again. Marcel suddenly stabs the sheriff before Klaus and him slaughter most of the Faction. Marcel suggest that they keep Kieran alive because he is Cami's uncle and is more useful alive. Klaus tells Kieran to choose new city leaders and rebuild the Faction.

While searching for the werewolves, Rebekah tells Elijah that she knows he has fallen for Hayley and wants him to admit it. They hear a noise and see Diego and his crew attacking a werewolf. Elijah tells Diego and his crew to leave and issues a threat. The vampires leave as the wounded werewolf, Cary ask who they are. Elijah notices his mother's necklace around his neck and says it's better to ask who he is. In the Quarter, Klaus and Marcel are drinking. Klaus mentions they used to be really close but Marcel reminds him that he picked up the coin to swear loyalty and not friendship. Loyalty has to be earned, Marcel says. Klaus says he will not do to his child what their fathers did to them and he offers Marcel to rule by his side as equals.

Klaus walks into his living room where Hayley is reading. She is angry over his order to have the werewolves killed. Klaus tries to tell her that it was the only way to keep her safe, but she simply says she'll find a way to pay him back. Hayley goes to Davina's bedroom. She asks what Davina is searching for and is told a violin. When Davina says she can't go get it because the witches are looking for her, Hayley tells her that Agnes is dead. Davina wonders why Marcel didn't tell her, Hayley replies that he didn't want to lose his weapon. Davina asks Hayley what she wants and is told that her help is needed to un-curse the werewolves who can only change to human on a full moon. As Hayley leaves, Josh arrives with Davina's violin. Josh informs her that Agnes is indeed dead but doesn't know why she's concerned. Davina tells him that everybody is using her and she has to get out of there.

At the Mikaelson Mansion, Klaus is playing the piano when Rebekah and Elijah arrive. Klaus is angry that they stopped the werewolf massacre. Elijah throws him Esther's ring and informs him that his biological fathers bloodline has survived and living in the Bayou. Rebekah and Elijah state they're trying to make amends with this but Klaus says he's had enough of family and doesn't need any more. Klaus goes to St. Anne's to talk with Kieran. Klaus asks him to help protect the werewolves in the Bayou and keep it a secret from the other vampires. Kieran agrees to help with one condition, he wants Camille to leave town.

Klaus arrives at Cami's, where she is listening to her conversation with him and Marcel. Klaus credits her for her tenacity but states that it's time to leave town for her own good. She thinks that he wants her to leave because she's seen him for who he really is but Klaus responds that if she were to see, it would break her in two. Cami grabs his arm and Klaus allows her to see inside his mind. She see images of Mikael's mistreatment of Klaus and is horrified by what she sees. Cami tells Klaus that nobody should have to experience things he has. Klaus tells her that knowing what she does will get her killed, so he compels her to leave New Orleans and forget everything that has happened.

In the Garden, Marcel tells Rebekah that Klaus and him are on good terms and it's not a good idea for him to see her behind Klaus' back. He tells Rebekah that he has people to look out for and he can't turn his back on them, not even for her. Rebekah reminds him that she knows a secret that will make Klaus hate him forever. Elijah secretly goes to see Hayley. He informs her that the werewolves are safe and she thanks him. They share a moment but Elijah leaves before something can happen between them. Klaus see him and asks if he's had his fill of being disappointed. Elijah responds by apologizing for questioning Klaus' motives for the baby. Klaus says he knows that wasn't easy to do but Elijah tells him that he's not easy to love. Klaus tells Elijah that when they're ready, Rebekah and him are welcome at the Abattoir as it is their family home. Davina arrives at Cami's but is surprised when Cami doesn't recognize her. Davina realizes that Cami has been compelled and apologizes for what's going to happen. Cami screams in pain as Davina undoes Klaus' compulsion.

      • In Moon Over Bourbon Street, it is revealed that this ring was once a moonlight ring enchanted by Esther to prevent Klaus' father from having to turn on the Full Moon. Quotes[]

Klaus: "And so then I bit Elijah, and left him in the Bayou with my hybrid venom in his veins. Serves him right for making such vile accusations against me. And then... Are you taking this down?"
Cami: "To be clear-- if the Quarter is yours now, you still need me why?
Klaus: "My memoirs! A thousand years of history isn't going to write itself.

(Marcel enters the room and is surprised to see Cami)

Marcel: "Cami. What are you doing here?"
Cami: "My question exactly."
Klaus: "Oh, it's quite alright. She knows."
Marcel: "She does?"
Cami: "That you're vampires? Don't worry, he's compelled me to forget everything as soon as I leave. That way, I'm too busy agonizing over whether or not I'm losing my damn mind to realize I'm playing spy for an immortal egomaniac."
Marcel: "You compelled her to go out with me, didn't you? And I thought you really liked me."
Cami: "So did I."
Klaus: "I mean, to be clear, I only compelled you to give him a chance. Anything you felt for him was quite real... and for the record, the level of awkwardness we're all currently experiencing is entirely genuine."

Hayley: (to Klaus) "That's my family."
Klaus: (to Hayley) "Not for long love."

Rebekah: "Do we look like a bloody vampire rescue squad? I think you should be grateful we came to save you!"
Hayley: "Listen, Rebekah. All my life, I've wanted to know who my real family was, and just as I find out that they're out there in the Bayou, Klaus orders them killed. You wanna help me? Help my people. Please."

Marcel: "I thought you really liked me."
Camille: "So did I."

Rebekah: "I should bloody hope you are! Why else are we out here? [Elijah remains silent] Come on, Elijah! You've fallen for her, admit it. May do wonders for the stick that's lodged up your enduringly-stoic arse if you did."
Elijah: "If I admit to you that it's complicated, would that suffice? Or, are you determined to torment me throughout this endeavor?"

Davina: "You're Hayley. Klaus' wife."
Hayley: "Ew. No. Never."
Marcel: (to Klaus) "You're the one who taught me that a man can't be defined by anyone but himself."

Elijah: (to Klaus) "You don't make it easy to love you, brother."
Klaus: (to Elijah) "And yet you are obstinate in your desire to do so."

Davina: "Cami, I need your help. Marcel has been lying to me, and I can't trust him anymore."
Cami: "I'm sorry. Do I know you?"
Davina: "Oh, you've been compelled."
Cami: "Okay, what are you doing?"
Davina: "It's okay. I can fix you. I'm really sorry, but this is gonna hurt."
