The Salvatore School Fundraiser Day, formerly Fundraiser Month, is the first ever fundraiser held at the Salvatore Boarding School. It was organized by Lizzie Saltzman while various events were hosted by students.
The events that set the fundraiser in motion began with the school-wide battle royal with the Necromancer and Malivore monsters in Hold on Tight. Fearing that the school was not safe, many parents withdrew their children from the school, jeopardizing the school's status. Though they recruited enough students to retain their right to be a school in To Whom It May Concern, their financial situation was further compromised with a hefty property tax lien with the bank threatening to take the school.
Throughout Legacies Series[]
In Yup, It's a Leprechaun, All Right, Alaric addresses the school assembly, explaining they have enough students enrolled so that they officially retain their status as a school in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Giving the podium to Lizzie, she explains to the attending students that things are different and they're suffering from the mass exodus of students. Though they have thirty students enrolled to support the school's status, overall they have fewer students. Simple math is fewer students equals less tuition and they've had to cut back; no more smoothie bar, the pool has been closed, and their dances and trips have been canceled. To help financially, Lizzie has come up with Fundraiser Month. Although she only has two events planned so far, such as a bake sale and a car wash, she takes suggestions from the students. Cleo volunteers Hope and herself to create art to auction off. However, Josie interrupts with news from a city messenger from Town Hall. Alaric reads the letter from the messenger and learns that the school has a past due property tax lien and owes $91,000 that they must pay within the week or the bank gets the school. Now in a financial crisis, Lizzie declares that fundraiser month is canceled and they're combining everything into fundraiser day. They're doing it all at once, right now.
Hope is still mad at Cleo for volunteering her to make art. She's still blocked and has nothing. Cleo reviews a painting of hers, but believes it lacks soul. She hasn't made anything since Landon's apparent death. Cleo has experienced something similar with her sisters' deaths. Cleo proposes an idea that may help her.
Meanwhile, Alaric leaves the school to try and get a loan from the bank and leaves Kaleb to assist Lizzie, tasking him to not allow anyone to use their supernatural abilities to influence the fundraiser.
Lizzie finds MG in his dorm room. Having missed the assembly, she charges MG with baking goods for the bake sale. Meanwhile, Wade and Jed organize the car wash, starting with Kaleb's car.
Though Lizzie has rallied the students and various events, the day is a disaster. No one has shown up. Given the two-hour short notice, Kaleb can't get a marketing campaign together, so Lizzie decides the best option is to use magic. In her grimoire, she has some old Salem-era spells for dispersing angry mobs. To bring people to the school for Fundraiser Day, she intends to try and figure out if she could reverse one of them and draw people to them. Kaleb reminds her that Alaric doesn't want magic being used, and despite disagreeing with his methods, intends to follow them. However, a rainbow appears overhead, and Lizzie isn't the one who's created it.
Eventually Kaleb has found the culprit, a leprechaun, and they trap it in the werewolf transition space. Lizzie concludes that the pot-of-gold is a myth, but believes they can use the creature's ability to influence people and attract wealth for their fundraiser day. Lizzie has found a loophole to her father's rule. They're not using magic, the leprechaun is and they can save their school in the process. Kaleb has no choice but to go along with her plan.
Outside, Jed and Wade sit and talk, having no cars to wash. However, given the leprechaun's influence, Jed is able to hear loads of cars and people from Mystic Falls coming to Fundraiser day. Taking charge, Jed commands Wade grab the hose, to place the kitchen on high alert and for Cleo and Hope to crank out the art. With townspeople showing up en masse, Lizzie kicks off the art auction, selling various paintings. Kaleb helps with the bake sale while Jed and Wade wash cars. Fundraiser day is a success.
With the bust of Landon completed, Cleo admires Hope's work. Their peace is quickly interrupted by a Rich Woman bursting into the art room. She asks for how much the bust is, but Hope refuses, citing that it's not for sale. Cleo however tells her it's $91,000 and the woman agrees, not taking 'no' for an answer. Refusing again, the woman turns to stab Hope, but she magically knocks her out.
Outside, Hope and Cleo confront Lizzie and Kaleb, though more people quickly descend into madness and some begin to start physically fighting on another. Lizzie takes her to the leprechaun she has locked away and learns that it's another Malivore monster. Hope is furious at Lizzie for keeping the monster a secret from her, but Lizzie is prioritizing the school and their home.
Eventually, however, they're forced to shut down fundraiser day. Even Lizzie begins to experience her own madness, wanting to sell her own belongings to make some extra cash. Fundraiser day is officially canceled, but Lizzie believes that it doesn't even feel like home any more. All the students that have left and the luxuries they've had to cut. With Kaleb's help, she sends the patrons away.
Despite the leprechaun's being released and a few physical fights, the school has managed to raise enough funds to cover the property tax lien while having money to spare.
In One Day You Will Understand, Cleo explains to Alaric that when she learned the school was in need of financial assistance, she helped by creating a golem of a leprechaun from Malivore's mud.
