The relationship between the doppelgänger and vampire Stefan Salvatore and the warlock and former Immortal Silas.
Also know as 'Stilas' by fans.
Early History
Not much is known about them other than Stefan is Silas' doppelgänger.
Qetsiyah mentioned that there were other doppelgänger's prior to Stefan's birth.
Season Four
In Season 4, Stefan was willing to work with the others, including Rebekah, to find Silas and to get The Cure.
In Bring It On, Stefan calls Damon, telling him that a lot of the blood bags from the hospital were missing and stating that he believes that Silas has followed them back to Mystic Falls.
In Pictures of You, Silas appears as Stefan to bother and trick Damon. Stefan later tells Damon that he had mistaken Silas for him and got stabbed in the gut.
In The Walking Dead, when Silas found out Bonnie's plans to deceive him, he appeared as a few illusions, one of them being Stefan, to let her know that he is stronger than her.
In Graduation (Episode), Stefan looks into Silas' bag when he was going to dump it into the lake and was shocked to see that Silas' body wasn't in there. While Stefan was wondering where Silas could be, Silas appears behind him (as an illusion of Elena). Silas tells Stefan that he was no longer stone and broke out of the safe because the witch who cast the spell, Bonnie, died. Silas also tells Stefan that he created the immortality spell over 2,000 years ago which caused him to never die so nature needed to create something that could die. Silas revealed his true form to Stefan as his doppelgänger. This shocked and disturbed Stefan. Silas immediately stabs Stefan in the gut and asks him if he could imagine what would be like to be locked up for over 2,000 years. Silas then locks him in the safe and pushes it off the cliff into the lake, drowning him.
Season Five
In Original Sin, unknown to Silas, Stefan had been rescued from the quarry by Qetsiyah, who had returned from The Other Side when Bonnie had lowered the veil, as her hunter's of The Five had failed to kill Silas. Qetsiyah, having told Stefan of her and Silas' history, was linking Stefan and Silas together which would cut off Silas' psychic abilities. The spell worked and caused Silas a great amount of pain.
In Monster's Ball, Silas tracked Damon down at a Whitmore College ball that was being held and told him that he needed him to kill Stefan and then explained a plan that would be able to help them figure out what Tessa, the name Qetsiyah had gone under, was up to and where the anchor, keeping The Other Side around was. The reason Damon needed to kill Stefan was that by breaking Stefan's neck and temporarily killing him, the link Tessa had placed between Silas and Stefan that had given one amnesia and made the other lose his psychic abilities, would be broken temporarily.
In Death and the Maiden, Silas received a call from his doppelgänger - Stefan that he captured Amara as the hostage. Stefan successfully lured him out. In the woods, Silas found Amara tied to a tree. Amara told him that she wanted to die and Silas understood her decision. As Silas was cutting Amara's throat, Stefan intervened and they had a fight and he dropped his knife. Stefan threw the knife into Silas' chest, killing him.

- Silas/Elena: That's the funny thing about spells. They're bound by nature. Nature demands balance, so every spell has a loophole. The spell that turned me to stone, it was bound by a witch, a living witch. So when that witch died, the spell broke.

- Stefan: So, this is finally your real face. You're another one of them?
- Elena/Silas: Not exactly.
- (Shows Stefan his true form. A face identical to Stefan's)

- (Silas walks towards Stefan and stakes him)
- Silas: Do you have any idea what it's like to starve for two thousand years?

- Ironically, Stefan is enemies with Silas, a lot like Elena and Katherine.
- Stefan finally got his revenge on Silas and stabbed him after he took the cure.
- They are both the Doppelgänger of Tom Avery, who is dead.
- He was also the only Doppelgänger who wasn't aware of his supernatural origins.
- He never got to meet any of Doppelgängers.
