I know you two have history, and this grimoire of his is full of [...] Black magic spells.
Alaric and Josie about the Necromancer's Grimoire in I Was Made To Love You

The Necromancer's Grimoire is a particularly dark grimoire full of black magic spells, some of which require human sacrifices to enact. The Necromancer gave the grimoire to Alaric in Facing Darkness is Kinda My Thing and has been in his and Josie's possession ever since.

History[]

Not much is known about the grimoire, though it is the Necromancer's personal grimoire, a collection full of dark magic spells.

Known Pages and Spells[]

Unbreakable Covenant Spell[]

In Facing Darkness is Kinda My Thing, the Necromancer gave Alaric his grimoire and proposed this spell since he couldn't trust him. The Necromancer explained that if both of them don't hold up their end of the bargain, neither of them will gain what they want. The Necromancer wanted the dark magic within Josie and Alaric wanted Josie returned safely. Alaric also bargained for Rafael, Alyssa, and Chad's resurrection with the ties between them and the Necromancer, as 'puppets', to be severed and for Landon to be brought back to life.

Golem Creation Spell[]

In Hold on Tight, while the Necromancer prepared his sacrifices and consecrated Mystic Falls High School, Alyssa Chang used the Necromancer's grimoire to recreate the original Triad spell that spawned Malivore.

Prison World Banishment Reversal Spell[]

In You Can't Run From Who You Are, the Necromancer, who had been released from Malivore, sought to free himself from the prison world. The Necromancer had his grimoire, the ascendant and various other items collected in the Salvatore Crypt attempting to create a spell to free him. The spell incorporated various spells from numerous witches. It's unknown if the spell had been completed, as various markings on the crypt's wall indicated it may have still been a work-in-progress, or if it would have worked as he was seemingly attacked and dismembered before completing the escape.

Necromantic Reanimation Spell[]

In I Was Made To Love You, Josie used the grimoire to track the Necromancer to a funeral parlor. Keeping the grimoire with her, she attempted to help him recover enough of his memories to raise a spirit. Despite suffering from amnesia, the Necromancer, rather "Ted", inadvertently raised Robert Vaspucci. Seeking to atone for past deeds, he aided Alaric and further raised Leonardo da Vinci's spirit from the spectral plane, though due to a language barrier, they were unable to communicate. He would eventually send him away for being a distraction.

Dispelling Spell[]

In I Was Made To Love You, the amnesiac Necromancer assumed that with each dark act, he became more monstrous and was eventually able to read his grimoire, where before he couldn't. He found a spell within the grimoire that would release him and Alaric from his office that Cleo spelled them within. He explained that it was a spell to dispel other spells, it acts as a magical skeleton key. It's a particularly powerful dark spell given the requirements; a human sacrifice. After performing the spell, he stabbed the knife into his own chest as the sacrifice, a feat that he believed that made Alaric not look at him as a monster. With his dying breath, he believed he accomplished his mission in his renewed life and wished that Alaric would accomplish his own. The spell worked and Alaric was freed.

Dark Summoning Spell[]

In See You On The Other Side, Josie used the Necromancer's grimoire to find a spell that she believed could summon Cleo and Landon from Malivore's darkness. The spell required her to use black magic and it eventually overwhelmed her, causing her dark side to reappear. Eventually, with Finch, Wade and Jed by her side, she was successful performing the spell and summoned Cleo out from the darkness.
