“ | I love you, Niklaus. I would give anything to share a life with you, but mine is already over. This thing I have now is no life, always waiting for the next time I start to sink. Sooner or later, I won't be able to come up for air at all, and I'll drown in this darkness forever. [...] Say goodbye, Niklaus, and send me back to the Other Side so that I can dream about you again. | ” |
— Vivianne's last words to Klaus in The Originals: The Loss
|
Queen Vivianne Lescheres-Mikaelson was a character of The Originals novel series. She was a werewolf/witch hybrid of the French Quarter, who lived during the early part of the 18th century in New Orleans.
Vivianne was born of a union between a Navarro werewolf bloodline and a witch bloodline, which served as a way to unite the werewolf and witch communities of New Orleans. During her engagement party, Vivianne met Niklaus Mikaelson, who was instantly intrigued by her and wound up falling madly in love with her. He proposed and married her and she became the Queen of New Orleans.
Vivianne was a member of the Lescheres and Dalliencourt Families and is, by marriage, a member of the Mikaelson Family.
History[]
Vivianne was born in 1703, as a result of a star-crossed marriage between high-class nobleman Quentin Lescheres and noblewoman Sofia Dalliencourt, who was a member of the witches who ruled, thus making Vivianne a rare hybrid of a witch and werewolf. Because of the werewolf-witch war that had been active since the dawn of New Orleans, Vivianne was kept secret until her father's death, at which point Sofia enforced that there be peace established between the species.
The Originals Novel Series[]
When Vivianne was ten years old, in 1713, she witnessed the Mikaelson's arrival in New Orleans and was tempted to set their ship on fire and drown the ship as she felt it carried something dark and menacing, her confidence in her ability to do so was a testament to her power.
Nine years later, as a way to celebrate and bind the ending of the war, as well as to merge the communities, Vivianne was betrothed to a werewolf from a powerful bloodline. During the celebration of the end of the war, as well as Vivianne's engagement party, she met the Original Vampires, and danced with Klaus, who was especially intrigued by Vivianne, as well as attracted to the fact that she was both a witch and a werewolf.
One night, she sneaks out of the house and spots Klaus, gesturing him to leave. She gives him five minutes to talk and while he tells her that a woman of her intelligence couldn't possibly be happy in a life planned for her, but she remarks that while it has been laid out, it doesn't make it unworthy. After he catches her interest mentioning that if they could find common ground, then maybe the species could be persuaded to do the same, he places a formal kiss on her hand and leaves her home. Some time later, she writes Klaus a note to meet her at the garden behind the ballroom where they their first dance together. She runs a few minutes late and tells him that they can never be together so he must let her go. At first, he's at a loss for words, but kisses her and she returns it back until she pulls back. She says she's engaged and doesn't want to see bloodshed on either side due to her own selfish desires. She tells him the Navarros want her to trigger her werewolf gene and while he pleads with her to get take her away from the entrapment, she continues to argue until they are interrupted by Armand looking for her. On another night, Klaus meets up with Vivianne again, but notices she has been crying. She says that she and Armand got into a terrible fight as she mentions that Armand would respect her decision if she wanted to become a full werewolf or not. She snaps at him about not knowing what a marriage requires and he reveals to her that he loves her, which she already knew. She asks him to take her away for the night and they head to the hotel where the Mikaelsons are staying at. She says she's happy to be there with him and not to worry about the morning, as they begin undressing each other and making love.
After their night of sex, Vivianne leaves the room without a word and returns to her home. Later that night, she leaves once again while she is being followed by Klaus. She heads to the edge of the forest where the werewolves were gathered in a semicircle and takes note of an unconscious man on an altar. She tells the werewolves that she will fully embrace both halves of her to make the city whole and Armand hands her a knife. She walks to the altar slowly and lifts the knife, slicing the man's throat in the process while the full moon rises. As the others turn into wolves, she writhes on the ground and begins changing as well.
She goes to the Mikaelsons' new residence and wants to see if Klaus is doing alright. While he is unsympathetic to her, she tells him she saw Armand and Elijah the other night. She tells him that she wanted one last night as herself before she changed, but soon realized she made a huge mistake. Despite seeing his anger, she also knows he still loves her and wants to make things right with him. She says she'll end her engagement to Armand and he mentions that they have an advantage now.
While getting ready for the party, Vivianne and Klaus discuss the factions and how she's going to tell Armand that the wedding is off first. Armand comes in and reveals that he has known she has been running off countless times and when he flees, she goes after him until he slaps her across the face. The guests notice the spectacle and she reveals to Armand that she never loved him. While he keeps insulting her about her falling for Klaus, she slaps him across the face, and she apologizes to the guests after Armand walks off. She tells them that the engagement is off, causing some angry tones and while trying to walk away, Solomon comes towards her until Klaus stops him. It is then revealed that Vivianne had turned before the wedding so the werewolves could have her more than the witches. The witches went ballistic after finding this out and a fight ensued between the factions once more. In this small fight at a party to celebrate the welcome of the Vampire Faction into their alliance, witches are killed and wounded.
At the Mikaelson home, Klaus and Vivianne arrive and takes notice of some dark clouds moving too fast. After seeing the werewolves head towards the house with torches in their hands, the two head to the cellar for some weaponry. While she looks around, she thinks that she should try to reason with the werewolves, but Klaus tells her it's all for naught. After Elijah arrives, he tells Vivianne that all the werewolves are here for is the murder and it's much bigger than her. While the two brothers look through the arsenal, they allow Vivianne to sit in the upstairs bedroom so she shouldn't watch the slaughter and her constant suggesting of finding a more peaceful approach. After the two brothers set up the explosions, Klaus calls for Vivianne, but he doesn't receive an answer. He sees that she's outside being confronted by Armand and Solomon, but before he could get to her, the barrels begin to go off and she disappears as the ground erupted underneath her.
It is then revealed that she had been killed by the explosion and Klaus cradles her corpse. In the morning, they head to the witches' cemetery so she could receive a proper burial. When Elijah spots Sofia and Ysabelle on the porch, he reveals to Ysabelle that Vivianne was one of the casualties, mentioning she did not suffer. He offers to do the arrangements for Vivianne's burial so Sofia could properly mourn her daughter.Fourty-four years later, she was resurrected by her cousin, who Klaus had made an bargain with. Vivianne married him, but the Morts-Vivants were causing trouble in the city. It was revealed that Lily linked them to her cousin. Vivianne made the selfless decision to be sacrificed herself, which saddened Klaus.
Twenty-two years after her final death Klaus was noted by others to having become more sadistic and crueler.
