We're Planning a June Wedding is the fifteenth episode of the eighth season of The Vampire Diaries and the one hundred and seventy episode of the series overall.
Summary[]
WEDDING BELLS? – A wedding is quickly planned in order for Damon and Stefan to lure a dangerous enemy out into the open. This looming threat puts the fate of Mystic Falls in eminent danger and must be destroyed.[2]
Plot[]
A woman walks down the street at night and attacks a guy.
The next day, the gang discuss how to kill Katherine. Dorian suggests that since Cade was killed using a dagger made out of his bones, they have to make a dagger out of Katherine's bones. The plan on luring her out by organizing a wedding of Stefan and Caroline - an opportunity she would never miss. Stefan and Damon go to the tomb to get Katherine's bones, out of which Peter makes a dagger later.
Meanwhile, Peter Maxwell and Kelly Donovan arrive to Mystic Falls to Matt's surprise. Kelly goes to the bathroom and vomits black blood. She reveals to a girl there that she'd died at some point, went to Hell and returned to Earth.
Enzo dances with Bonnie and keeps convincing her that she needs to forgive Stefan. She's not planning on going to the wedding of Enzo's killer, but he convinces her to go for Caroline. The gang prepares for the wedding. Damon gives Elena's necklace to Caroline as "something borrowed" as a symbol of Elena's presence at her wedding. Bonnie sends her a tiara as "something new", while Stefan sends her a blue necklace as "something blue and old".
At the wedding, Kelly intercepts Peter and asks him about the dagger. He says that he gave it to Stefan and she vomits again and then slices his throat. Bonnie comes to the wedding and offers to take Caroline to the altar. Stefan puts the dagger in his suit and the wedding opens up with a dance. Stefan notices the necklace around Caroline's neck and says that Katherine sent it to her. They expect Katherine to crash the wedding, but when she doesn't Stefan and Caroline get married with Damon as the officiant.
After the ceremony, Matt found his father in the bushes. At the reception, Damon starts giving a toast to Stefan and Caroline, but Kelly takes the mic from him. She talked about Elizabeth Forbes and Vicki and how the whole town never cared about her. She tells the guests that only Katherine cared about her and brought her back from Hell. She reveals that she'd set a gas leak and that the house will explode. The explosion happens while Caroline races to save Bonnie and the twins, who remains trapped in the house.
Inside the house, the twins siphon Bonnie's magic and save all of them, but Bonnie loses her magical connection to Enzo in the process. Enzo says his goodbyes to Bonnie hoping that he'll be able to see her again.
Before she dies, Kelly reveals to Matt and Stefan that the explosion was only a distraction while Vicki, who's resurrected from Hell, rings the bell and destroys Mystic Falls with hellfire. Vicki starts ringing the bell and Bonnie loses consciousness.
